When will misogyny be renounced and toppled?

GanjaGranny · 11/06/2020 12:34

Look at all these statues rightfully falling....
Baden Powell being decried as a bigot... much more to come....
I am so glad that something concrete will come from Gorge Floyds death.

How many would we have left if we destroyed statues of misogynistic figures? Destroyed their works?
Renamed streets?
Apologised for past offences?

....when will our time come?

2 women die every week...
where is the outrage?

Ignore the poll

Men campaigned for civil rights, gay rights and now for BLM. Women only received the vote because a few brave women "fell" under the Kings horse and bombed stately homes (and women's presumed conservatism was thought to offset the presumed liberal new working man's vote). The male threat, violence and disruption - as well as the presumed worth of a man's word - achieves the result, no matter the race, creed or sexual orientation. Mainstream men are also better able to identify with the "pain" of other men.

Men won't campaign to end misogyny because turkeys don't vote for Christmas.

So misogyny will never end unless women start bombing again.

CanofCant · 11/06/2020 13:08

Never.

CherryValanc · 11/06/2020 13:14

@CanofCant

Never.
I'd say this too, for the reasons @PicsInRed.

I thought it was even noticeable in the campaign for equal marriage rights - the whole spotlight was on two men being able to get married, not a lot of it shone on the idea of two women.

Mind you, I'm unsure we are going to see racial equality anytime soon.

AdaColeman · 11/06/2020 13:15

When?
Never.

Knucklehead101 · 11/06/2020 13:22

When men do!

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 11/06/2020 13:24

Things change for minority people when men care about them, usually because men are members of that minority.

No man cares enough about misogyny to stand up against it.

They just don't get it.

EmperorCovidula · 11/06/2020 13:26

When we evolve out all of or arseholery traits. Going to take a while though.

Pepperwort · 11/06/2020 13:31

"Where is the outrage?" I've been wondering that since this round of protests kicked off. A black man in the US dies - protests here. Women get killed, girls of 3 get raped and killed. By men. Who cares, that's what we exist for.

Blibbyblobby · 11/06/2020 13:35

Oh my goodness, imagine if we toppled all the statues that are steeped in patriarchy! All those anonymous women looking pretty in drapes, holding urns, decorating walls or embodying values. There’d be almost no statues left!

Onebigfoot · 11/06/2020 13:38

It will never end. Male privilege is too entrenched. In fact I think misogyny has gotten worse if anything with the advent of social media. I work with all men, I have across both my careers. They smile, nod and agree that women deserve the right to equal pay, safety and dignity. Would they stand next to me and march for those things, advocate on behalf of women? No they would not

Heko · 11/06/2020 13:39

Posting your outrage on the internet rarely changes anything

cologne4711 · 11/06/2020 13:40

I've been thinking this all along OP but not said anything because of being accused of whataboutery. But I do think that we wouldn't have seen this outrage if that policeman had killed a black woman. Some outrage yes, but nothing to this degree. Black lives matter but only if they are male.

An Iranian girl of FOURTEEN was beheaded. It was just accepted.

Laserbird16 · 11/06/2020 13:44

It feels like just after hell freezes over.

So many opportunities to move the needle a little bit towards equality just wasted. Case in point the end of Australian free childcare and removal of childcare workers from the Jobkeeper payment. Mainly female, mainly casual workers and some of the lowest paid, yoinked off. Plus women will be the ones to drop work to care for children when it becomes too expensive. On the flip side Tradies -mainly male - get an extension to right off 'small' assets up to $150,000.

So so many other shitty things like the tape of a tourist in Portugal completely failed to be investigated properly and now possibly linked to the Madeline McCain case.

Having the same endless meddling by forced birthers in reproductive health. Determined to keep misery upon misery mounting up.

Perhaps women's hope is some kind of cataclysmic event that takes out most of the male population like WW2.

Laserbird16 · 11/06/2020 13:47

Oh shit...I didn't realise this was turning into a what about thread. Er Black women have a supremely shit time so if you're concerned about women be concerned about BLM

KaronAVyrus · 11/06/2020 13:49

It will never end because men don’t want it to.
I live in a city with more statues of dogs than women but no one seemingly gives a shit about that.

Achangeisadgoodasarest · 11/06/2020 13:55

Haha! Good one OP! You’ve got to laugh haven’t you?!

DestinationFkd · 11/06/2020 13:58

When women choose to.

cologne4711 · 11/06/2020 14:07

Of course dogs (of either sex) are more important than human females, most MNers would agree with that as a matter of course I would have thought.

Abitofalark · 11/06/2020 14:16

Surely that makes an argument why statues shouldn't be coming down selectively. There's the hierarchy of importance and therefore what is deserving and what isn't, being created in front of your eyes.

Abitofalark · 11/06/2020 14:22

Agree with Cherry Valanc, It was noticeable in the media that articles about same-sex marriage were, with rare exceptions, accompanied by photos of male couples - the publicly funded BBC included. That campaign was really about men, even though women joined it. The co-founder of Stonewall even stated that recently in an article about the implications of trans.

Pepperwort · 11/06/2020 14:51

But I do think that we wouldn't have seen this outrage if that policeman had killed a black woman.

Agreed.

Lottapianos · 11/06/2020 14:54

'No man cares enough about misogyny to stand up against it.

They just don't get it.'

So true. They really dont get it in the slightest, with very very few exceptions. Dont get it, dont need to get it, dont want to get it

Pepperwort · 11/06/2020 14:55

... well, unless some passing male reporter had decided that she was particularly hot and got her photo on the news.

DestinationFkd · 11/06/2020 14:59

It's not upto men to end misogyny, it's upto women.
Men hold the power because women allow them to.
