Appears not to be trending on Twitter, despite the huge number of tweets in response to J K Rowling's tweet.

AIBU to think that Twitter is a bunch of fiddling, dishonest cheats?

I agree with JKR and I personally think the trans movement is impacting women's rights. I recently had to give in at my work place regarding letting trans-women (MTF) use the women's toilets, for fear of losing my job on the grounds of equality.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 10/06/2020 20:44

I’d just loaded a Body Shop order! Sad that can’t go ahead Sad.

refusetobeasheep · 10/06/2020 20:44

Amijutparanoidorstoned ... well, if you think a man EVER has had a vagina then my guess would be very very stoned

Annasgirl · 10/06/2020 20:47

@refusetobeasheep Grin Grin Grin

Maybe83 · 10/06/2020 20:48

@amijustparanoidorjuststoned that statement is as true in terms of biology as me saying the world is flat.

See I can say it a 1000 times while spinning on my head and blasting twitter with 00000000s of tweets abusing the shit out of anyone who knows and states it isnt. That wouldnt make me right.

amijustparanoidorjuststoned · 10/06/2020 20:49

@refusetobeasheep Grin I wish!

Okay, please hear me out. Imagine you give birth to a daughter, but she grows up believing she's a boy/male. In her teens she says she wishes to transition as she's always seen herself as male. She asks that the rest of the family (and the world) refer to her as he/him.

In her mind, she's always been a boy/male since birth, yet she still has a vagina until she has the transitional surgery. Does that make sense?

Ps, depsite what my username says I am not stoned Grin just trying to get you to understand transgenderism!

Werkwerkwerkwerkwerkwerk · 10/06/2020 20:54

Very much disagree with her opinion and its such a shame I have to stop supporting her and her work.

Oh well !

TheGreatWave · 10/06/2020 20:55

In her mind, she's always been a boy/male since birth, yet she still has a vagina until she has the transitional surgery. Does that make sense?

You do realise that many don't have surgery at all, don't you?

Annasgirl · 10/06/2020 20:56

Oh Werk - I'm sure JK will survive as will the rest of us, who know facts. You on the other hand, might find life gets tough when you find out what you want does not mean what is.

Buryit · 10/06/2020 20:57

She is fucking awesome.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 10/06/2020 20:59

I refuse to get involved with Twitter and have never had an account but am adding a message of support and admiration for JKR on here in lieu of a better alternative.

amijustparanoidorjuststoned · 10/06/2020 20:59

@TheGreatWave EXACTLY. I was just giving one example.

So your daughter, who identifies as a male, may not ever have surgery.

So in her eyes, she is a man. But she/he has a vagina.

Obviously the correct pronouns would be "him/he" at this point, but I hope you all get the picture!

Alsohuman · 10/06/2020 21:00

Men don’t have vaginas.

rogdmum · 10/06/2020 21:05

I am the mother of one of these “ROGD” girls and I sobbed when I read it. I hope this is a turning point, no matter how small and that public awareness is now raised about the issue.

Proudboomer · 10/06/2020 21:05

I don’t even like Harry Potter And must be one of the few people who has never watched a Harry Potter movie right through to the end but I strand with JKR.

OceanOrchid · 10/06/2020 21:08

In her mind, she's always been a boy/male since birth, yet she still has a vagina until she has the transitional surgery. Does that make sense?

It makes sense, if you believe that the mind is separate from the body. Many people don’t believe that at all. In fact, some people think that the idea of a self separate to the body (ie a soul) is religious nonsense.

amijustparanoidorjuststoned · 10/06/2020 21:09

@rogdmum Flowers

amijustparanoidorjuststoned · 10/06/2020 21:11

@OceanOrchid if you think it's "religious nonsense" then.. okay? That's a very dated way of looking at things.

digbee · 10/06/2020 21:14

You can't be "born in the wrong body". You are your body. What else is there?

amijustparanoidorjuststoned · 10/06/2020 21:16

Just to clarify - you do all know that sex and gender are two different concepts entirely.. right?

midgebabe · 10/06/2020 21:16

In my mind I was born a boy,

although I think I was actually around 10 or 11 when I first through that

It took a good few years , till around aged 20, for me to accept that I was actually female , and the problem was that I just didn't fit with other people's expectations, and it was their problem

OceanOrchid · 10/06/2020 21:19

That's a very dated way of looking at things.

Tbh, I’m not that bothered about whether things appear “dated” or not. I also never said I thought it was religious nonsense (I’m religious and do believe in souls, as it happens). Just pointing out that it was a belief-based idea rather than science.

StillWeRise · 10/06/2020 21:21

what does it actually mean though, to be born in the wrong body?
I mean, really- what does it mean- what is the 'it' that's in the 'wrong' body?
I'm really sorry your daughter has this delusion, but I don't see how affirming it is going to help
I'm afraid really you should have tackled this sooner and not allowed her to reach her teens thinking this. When my DC said things that were nonsense I would indulge them whist clearly signalling that we wre both playing.
Lots of reasons girls may not want to become women, as JKR says, better to explore those and challenge them than let them believe something that's impossible.

stophuggingme · 10/06/2020 21:22

It’s so depressing that if you were physically and biologically born a woman you can’t say that men even men who want to become a woman don’t or can’t menstruate

If self identification is now the new turn then I’ve just won Euromillions and I’m about to pay Boris Johnson and Scummings off to go and live on an all incisive serviced by helicopter drop atol with no WiFi.

TheMurk · 10/06/2020 21:23

Never used to like JK Rowling and I can’t remember why... something she was in the news for a few years back... possibly to do with Scottish independence... Anyway, having read her essay today my opinion of her has totally changed. She’s my kinda woman. I agree with every single word.
