Appears not to be trending on Twitter, despite the huge number of tweets in response to J K Rowling's tweet.

AIBU to think that Twitter is a bunch of fiddling, dishonest cheats?

OP posts:
clipclop5 · 10/06/2020 20:04

JK Rowling is an attention seeking idiot.

Keeva2017 · 10/06/2020 20:05

Question - genuinely so please no sarcasm.

If I ask for a woman dr say, to undertake a medical procedure and the dr in front of me looks like a man, but tells me he identifies as a woman and I refuse this and ask for another woman dr...... would that make me trans phobic?

sourcreamnchives · 10/06/2020 20:06

It is now. Post your support. Her essay was brilliant and broke my heart a little stand up for women

clipclop5 · 10/06/2020 20:06

@TinyPigeon totally agree with you

IpanemaGallina · 10/06/2020 20:09

She’s very courageous standing up for women in the face of so much abuse. I very much support her.

dooble · 10/06/2020 20:09

It's probably because I'm idiot but I get confused by those that argue sex is irrelevant but then threaten rape 🤷‍♀️

dooble · 10/06/2020 20:09

@keeva that's my understanding

CilantroChili · 10/06/2020 20:11

I agree with you tinypigeon

TheGreatWave · 10/06/2020 20:11

keeva pretty much, yes it would.

(I don't think you are btw, but that would be the position you would find yourself in.)

AngeloMysterioso · 10/06/2020 20:13

#IStandWithJKR is no. 2 in the UK

Soontobe60 · 10/06/2020 20:15

@BarbedBloom

I also don't stand with her. I have trans friends and have seen their struggles.
Do your trans friends believe you can change sex at will? Do you tell your transwomen friends that of course they can be women if they want? That's not supporting them, that's enabling them to continue with believing the impossible. Supporting them would be telling them it's absolutely ok to look, dress, do what you want without the constraints of traditional gender stereotypes. Girls can wear trousers, no make up, be plumbers, firefighters, nuclear physicists. Boys can wear dresses and make up, be nurses, midwives, stay at home dads. We need to get to the point where how you live your life isn't constrained by the sex you are.

The real answer is, many people would say you were, many would not. However, you can refuse any HCP to carry out treatment on you at any point.
Keeva2017 · 10/06/2020 20:19

@TheGreatWave and @dooble

Thanks for answering. I admit my ignorance around the matter of trans rights but I’m working on it. This scares me though. If anyone has a different understanding please @ me.

Thanks.

MoaningMinniee · 10/06/2020 20:23

I've just been blocked and deleted from a women's group that I've been a member of for over six years, because I said it might be better to wait a couple of years before starting irreversible medical procedures on a four year old male bodied child who currently quite likes wearing pink. The 'every trans is a wonderful good person no matter what and anyone who disagrees is obviously an evil TERF' brigade are still out there stifling debate.

TinyPigeon · 10/06/2020 20:24

She is so so courageous am in floods of tears..... the abuse she has put up with is just accepted. It’s so frightening.

Come now you must be having a giraffe.

The Body Shop have tweeted J K Rowling this evening. I have just emailed them to say that I will never buy from them again.

That essay was well written by someone who has looked into these issues and has been unfairly targeted imo. If people spent one minute actually looking into trans dismorphia then they realise that Rowling is right. I always thought it odd that the trans men in my school came out suspiciously at the same time, then suddenly decided that they were female after all. Also the same time. It’s this that makes me concerned that people who are searching for who they are, maybe pushed into thinking that they are trans and make a mistake they can’t undo. You can’t say this without being shouted down. Anyone who doesn’t throw themselves behind trans rights is wrong and abused for their opinion. No one says that people don’t have the right to feel their sex is wrong, but the discussion should be allowed to occur so that genuine fears about the erasure of female advancement can be voiced as much as those who think trans means the ability to wear dresses, makeup and high heels. I do stand with Rowling. She’s done a hell of a lot more research into this than Daniel Radcliffe who Immediately assumed this meant trans women! Trans men menstruate as they were born female. Trans women are born male, are not ‘people who menstruate’ and cant let go of their male privilege which is why the discussion is usually about trans women and barely anything about trans men....

Igmum · 10/06/2020 20:31

Great essay. What a courageous woman

Maybe83 · 10/06/2020 20:33

@MoaningMinniee I actually view that as child abuse.

The world has gone absolutely mad.

Gingernaut · 10/06/2020 20:36

It's trending on my Twitter feed

The backlash against the Body Shop is gaining some ground too.

So what you're saying is that most of you are transphobic?

Not all vaginas belong to women, and not all women have vaginas.

She’s bloody fantastic.

Alsohuman · 10/06/2020 20:41

So you’re denying biology @amijustparanoidorjuststoned?

amijustparanoidorjuststoned · 10/06/2020 20:44

@Alsohuman not at all. Biologically, some people are born in the wrong bodies and want the chance to live the lives they've always wanted to live.
