Is there any thing I can sign up for to annoy a racist?

I have a deeply annoying, racist former colleague. They have a lot of power and influence over others.

Is there a charity I can donate to in their name? Or an organisation I can sign up to for them to receive mail at their company?

I remember people donated in the name of Mike Pence in the news.

Yes, I know what I am doing is unreasonable or petty. It makes me as bad as them, I know. I'm just angry and frustrated they won't be held to account.

Make your donation to an appropriate organisation, but do it under your own name, in a spirit of solidarity with the cause, not petty spitefulness.

Also, it is relatively simple to google appropriate organisations.

Maybe. But you can definitely use your knowledge, place and intelligence to make them squirm now. Or in the not so distant future.

I think you should absolutely go for it! Of course it’s in the spirit as it’s challenging someone’s cancerous views in a passive way which really is the safest way for you to do so towards a colleague higher up.

Any organisation worth its salt will have a code of conduct for employees and promote equal rights for all. He has a right to be a racist; he doesn’t have a right for that to be free of consequences for racist speech and actions.

Personally, I wouldn’t do what you’re considering. If you’re going to do something good, let it be in your name.

Any decent organisation wouldn't want a known racist working for them. Most companies promote equal rights. I'm suprised you don't know this.

@EmbarrassedUser if he has any input into organisational structure , hiring or even just line management it has everything to do with them if they want to be an equal opportunities diverse employer.

Definitely report to HR if you have evidence even better. Yes there's so many organisations that you could donate to on behalf of him, operation black vote is one of them!

It sounds like you want to use the BLM movement for petty point scoring OP.

Don’t sign him up to anti-racist charities. Instead, steal his house keys, slip in while he’s out and move things around very slightly - not enough for him to notice straight away, but enough to make him feel uneasy. Then do it every day for a year until he’s a gibbering wreck, never sure whom to trust and what dark forces may be at work against him. Then, when he’s finally on his knees and begging for something, anything to save him, whisper in his ear, ‘That’s what happens to racists’.

Just get on with your own life. God these last few weeks have brought the utter worst out in everyone.

Thank you everyone for these. I already know I am petty and as objectionable as them - I was happy to admit that, as well as being angry and frustrated.

I didn't actually mention their gender in my original post because I did not want to be too revealing. It is a woman - she was offensive long before BLM and she in a ownership position as well.

They are a former colleague in the sense we worked on a project together.

Anyway, that is what these places are for - I was venting a bit and indulging a whimsical thought about a different approach to make a point. Nothing will be done. It was remembering the Mike Pence thing. I already make charitable donations and I get the points made. I hope one day she will be held accountable for her decisions.

Being offensive is subjective. How is she racist?

I really don't want to go into specifics apart from views she has expressed about history, immigrants and ways she has treated people she knows. Nothing electronic or social media that I know of - I don't know her that way. Some of it I have been told secondhand.

I accept it is not my business and that I have already expended too much energy on it, first world problems, wasting time etc- it was an idle thought. I know I am petty and it's pointless; I will not be taking further action.

I will continue to support the causes and charities I care for in as meaningful a way as I can. Thank you.

Don’t dwell on it too much. People like that have a negativity that can affect people around them.
Just take your own positive actions and cancel hers out.

The problem with action like this is that it starts to cross the line into vigilante justice - is that really leading a world we want to live in?

Absolutely report your colleague through the proper channels and/or challenge her to her face.

However, once you start taking the law into your own hands it opens the floodgates for everyone to do that, whether they are in the moral right/moral majority or not; there is a risk of people acting on hearsay and hurting innocent people. So make the donation in your own way and challenge the racist openly, not covertly.

There were/are particular circumstances around her, her position and career consequences in terms of the power and reach she has. Maybe I used colleague in the wrong sense. She was and is senior several grades above me.

As I have said, I know I am as bad as her and accept that. But the posters here have reminded me it is not my business also.

I am sorry to waste time and effort.
