Dog sleeping on our bed or not?

No way, not ever, YANBU
oh, little doggie on bed, look at her eyes, hoe can you be so heartless, YABU

DH wants the six month old puppy on the bed at night. I think she snores, farts, it’s unhygienic and she’s got her own bed. Don’t mind a puppy cuddle in the morning....but not all night.

My Yorkie used to sleep IN bed with me. He used to stick his head up the bottom of the duvet, work his way up the bed and plop himself either behind the backs of my knees (foetal sleeper) or in front on my belly. He didn't stink, he didn't fart and didn't moult. God I miss him 😢

Gross ... have you got a spare room? Suggest DH & dog move into it.

Our elderly spaniel sleeps downstairs. Our cockapoo sleeps on the landing outside the DCs bedrooms. The bedroom doors are always closed so it's not an option - the cockapoo occasionally creeps in for early morning cuddles with DS9 when I'm waking him for school but I wouldn't want either of the dogs in any of the beds to be honest.

Ddog sleeps on the rug at the bottom of the bed. Even if I wanted him on the bed (I think it's gross) he couldn't as he's huge and there would be no room for me!

I adore my dog. He is a dog. All furniture is for humans and not dogs.

@Florencenotflo I love it!! That pooch must be so happy with his new family. He probably thinks he’s died and gone to heaven. A lovely ending for him

All furniture is for humans and not dogs. We had that rule - but we realised that we were all sitting on the floor to be with the dog 😂So that rule had to be scrapped.

Our poodle would be offended if we said he had to sleep ON the bed! He likes to be under the duvet. We have no idea how he breathes or doesn't melt, but that is where he wants to be!

Our current dog was an absolute sod. Attacking my other half, dirty protesting in his pen at night getting it literally EVERYWHERE. He knew where the toilet was supposed to be, he’s bright, but just felt like he was being defiant on purpose. I’ve had and trained other pups before but this one was a different creature altogether. Then one night we accidentally fell asleep with him on the bed and he was a different dog. Loving, responsive to all this training and never messed in the house again. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow. All dogs are different, this one just needs to sleep with the pack in order to feel part of it. Luckily he’s small, so it’s not the end of the world and I’m not overly precious but change the sheets regularly.

Another no vote, we have a 'no dogs upstairs, no dogs on the sofa' rule. Two greyhounds, they each have 2 big beds but also sprawl out on the floor a lot.

We did have a lurcher who would sneak upstairs when we were out to look out for people coming home!

All 3 of mine sleep on our bed ...but I have appalling low standards. They are however, small and non shedding. I might think twice if they were German Shepherds.

No. Love him to pieces but he loves mud, invariably has half a bramble bush in his coat when it’s longer and enjoys rolling in all manner of things (most recently a dead mole 🤢).
I like my sleep and don’t even sleep snuggled up to DH once I’m going to sleep so no way do want the dog there.

When we had a dog he wasn’t allowed upstairs. I remember a French lady having a face transplant because he face was chewed by her dog when she was asleep. However much you trust your dog, it’s not sensible to sleep together.

Our dog delighted in rushing up the stairs periodically to wake us up in the morning and that usually involved chasing around the bedroom half a dozen times and then rushing downstairs hoping we would follow. We did.

He wasn’t allowed on the settees either but would take advantage of anyone new who didn’t know the rule if we were out of the room. Ultra sheepish when we returned. It was cute and a bit cunning but I wouldn’t ever completely trust a dog and he was not allowed to do what he wanted. We set boundaries. He found ways to get round them that made us laugh whilst following the rules 99% of the time.

Gross. An animal that slobbers, doesn't wipe its bum and has rolled in god knows what that has stuck in its fur, paws etc lying on your fresh bed linen? UGH.

Our old border terrier used to sleep on our bed after she was gravely ill, then it was a hard habit to break. When DS came along I got her a new bed out on the landing which she was happy with, I think she was pleased to be away from him waking. She would come in to check all was ok then would trot back off to bed. We let her on the bed in the mornings and that was it. I miss her so much Sad

Expecting a DD this time and we are desperate for a dog but I've said we can't until she goes to school. I can't have a puppy and a baby / toddler. Hopefully when we do have one they will stay in their own bed.

DDog is a rescue and used to sleep on the bed but suddenly decided to not let DH into bed. She was quickly banished to her own bed on the floor - which had always been there for her. She is allowed up for a cuddle in the mornings and funny enough loves DH then! Grin
I missed her at first, but tbh she takes up lots of room and makes me too hot.

Definitely not! Unhygienic for a start, but the main thing for me is we have steep stairs and if the dog is allowed once then she'll be up all the time, then be in danger from falling when she's old - you can't suddenly tell a dog who's slept on your bed for 10 years that they can't any more!

TimeWastingButFun · 09/06/2020 20:54

She wasn't allowed on the sofa either, although that one lasted all of a day before she was up there for good! Def no to the bed or upstairs though....

Ours does and has done since the day we brought him home. Doggy snuggles are the best thing ever!

He's not too big or heavy though so he can be carried if it's ever necessary - it might be different if we had a Great Dane Grin

I eventually bought a superking bed to fit my pooch in. He has his own little stairs to get up to it. He also has his own bed on the floor when he tends to go to during the night.

It's the perfect outcome for us. He's on the bed when he wants to be but there's plenty of room and after a while he chooses to go to his own bed.

I find his little snores really comforting.

No way ever would any of my dogs even be allowed upstairs, let alone on my bed.

Our dog comes on the bed sometimes when we let him otherwise he sleeps on his bed which is under our bed. He used to be on kitchen but got abit naughty with toilet ting so he's in with us to stop that.

If the puppy is settled in her bed best to stick to that otherwise you could cause issues in the future
