To mow the grass?

We have a very quiet electric mower. And most mornings there are delivery lorries/vans making a racket at 8 (the whole street seems to be extending their house atm, we have a builder's lorry almost every day and they always come early).

The sun is on the back garden until gone 6pm, I work until 2.30 and by the time the grass is in the shade I'm frankly knackered.

Would it really BU to give it a quick mow at 8?

One of my neighbour's thinks it's okay to be in her garden singing and being generally anti social, playing loud music until 1:00am recently. I love emptying lots of glass bottles into my recycling bin really early in the morning, it works both ways

I'm early riser myself, so I don't mind, but if someone started mowing at 8, I think I do get the impression that person won't care for others.

I actually wouldn’t do it till 10am at the moment. So many people having sleep issues during lockdown. Our whole household is sleeping badly during the night then waking later at 8.30/9 and teens are having an extra half hour till 9.30/10am. All based on disturbed sleep patterns not laziness.

FFS, It's not like OP is going to be out mowing her lawn every single day and I doubt her neighbours think about what she might be doing when they choose to mow their lawn.

It seems your only alternative is to do it in the evenings then, when you are equally likely to disturb your neighbours peaceful evenings.

I do think cutting it in the heat of the day isnt recommended. But perhaps you could and then water it in the evening when the sun is off it. Watering when the sun is on it will definitaly scorch it.

You could always ask your neighbours?! They may be understanding maybe not. After 9, fine.

I'd ask your neighbours what they think. It wouldn't bother me, but most gardens are away from my bedroom. My dd would be annoyed by it though as she has the back bedroom where the lawns are.

You can mow grass when it’s not in the shade. Why the issue about waiting until it’s in the shade?

The person who looks after the Non Conformist graveyard next to our house frequently starts with his mowing and strimming and hedge cutting at 8am. The C of E never do theirs until the afternoon.

The lady that lives behind us has her son now her huge garden every Saturday and Sunday morning at 8am during the summer. It takes him 2 mornings because he does it with a strimmer. We don't get a lazy weekend during the summer because we either get woken up by him because the window is open or we are sweating buckets with the windows closed. It's very annoying but the lady is lovely and quite old so I don't like to say anything.

YABU and selfish. It’s far too early.

If you don’t want to do it after work, do it on one of your days off.

I'd be very tempted to position motion sensor sprinklers along the fence.
That's so self absorbed.

I guess it is a bit unreasonable then.

Mind you, I've no idea how anyone in this street sleeps past 8 these days. There was a lorry delivering a skip at 8 last Friday morning, a lorry delivering bricks and stuff with a crane before 8 on Saturday, and this morning the recycling lorry was clearly audible from 7.30 and quickly followed by the binnies.

It just struck me - why not cut the grass, the chances are no-one would hear it over all the other racket.

8.30 seems to be the start time for the many builders and gardeners that are working in my road at the moment. 8.30 would be fine with me but maybe not on Sunday.

Far too early. 9.30am earliest for during the week. 10.00am earliest for weekends.

Please think of your neighbours :)

Assuming you're working from home (I don't think you've specified?) and you want to get going with your day, why not work for a couple of hours and then take a break to mow the lawn at 10ish while it's still cool.

OP there is a special place in hell reserved for people who cut their grass at that time in the morning.

It’s too early, YABU sorry. As someone else said what is the nonsense about shade? You can mow your lawn in sun or shade Confused

8 am on a weekday is fine. Our bin emptied my glass recycling at 6.30 am this week!

8am for noisy works (drilling etc) is actually legally allowed from 8am on a weekday.

OP is right to avoid cutting the draws in the sunshine but TBH evening would be okay - it doesn’t need to be in the shade, just not in high sun.

No. Not even on a weekday.
