What is your biggest lifestyle indulgence?

Mulling this over as I look through job listings. I think for me it is enjoying fitness classes at different expensive studios, well pre covid it was. Not sure when we will be able to do that again! But I really enjoy it so much and it is definitely not an essential, I'm fortunate to be able to do so. We do live in an eye-wateringly expensive area so I guess that is partly a luxury, although we do need to live in this city for my partner's work.

What would you say is the most luxury aspect of your lifestyle?

My fancy shampoo Smile and it sounds a bit silly but being in a position where for the first time in my life I am able to put some money aside each month into savings.

GaryUnicorn · 17/03/2021 01:21

First class air travel.

adeleh · 17/03/2021 01:27

Psychotherapy, though it feels like something I need rather than an indulgence.

Proudboomer · 17/03/2021 01:51

My garden. I don’t spend much on haircuts, never get my nails done and don’t buy fancy makeup, soap or creams.
But let me lose in a garden centre or the local nursery and my bank account takes a hammering.

Pyewackect · 17/03/2021 02:11

Horse 🐎

Grenred · 17/03/2021 02:22

Pets, so many animals Grin
Also streaming services think I'm subscribed to 6 and a recent investment in a projector. I have a disability that means I go through phases of lots of sofa days, being able to choose from a huge selection and watch it on a big screen is a huge indulgence for me and makes me happy on my crappy days.

LHReturns · 17/03/2021 02:23

Blow dries 2-3 times a week. So yes I have looked like a scarecrow for most of the pandemic. Good hair changes my whole day.

LHReturns · 17/03/2021 02:26

And four mini Shih Tzus!

What is your biggest lifestyle indulgence?
Veronika13 · 17/03/2021 02:54

Eating out in restaurants at least twice a week
Manicures every week
Expensive boutique gym membership.

But the biggest indulgence is.... not checking my bank account. I've had both worlds where I'm anxiously checking my account every day being scared that I have no money to now, not bothering to look at it for months because I know moneys always there. I'd say mentally I find that still a little bit mind blowing.

Crikeycroc · 17/03/2021 02:57

I have a cleaner despite being on maternity leave. Blush That’s very indulgent. But I get up early every Saturday morning and save a fortune buying fresh food at the markets so I justify it that way!

MrsAvocet · 17/03/2021 03:04

Bikes, and good quality cycle wear.

fieldofstreams · 17/03/2021 05:36

@LHReturns

And four mini Shih Tzus!
This has made my day.
SimonJT · 17/03/2021 06:01

Mini human.

Also my car and motorbike, they were expensive purchases and I had to buy a garage and car parking space. I only use them about twice a month.

Bringallthebiscuits · 17/03/2021 06:44

Equipment for hobby
Takeaways
Coffee shops (in normal times)

Amazed at how many people have horses and get blow dries!

FakeFruitShoot · 17/03/2021 06:56

We both under-earn because we've stayed in our jobs for the "soft benefits" - generous annual leave, flexi-time, compressed hours, full-time working from home outwith covid. This means we have quite a lot of time with the kids.

We have takeaway every Friday night and
3 TV subscription services Blush. We have a lawnmower man in the summer.

Elsielouise13 · 17/03/2021 06:57

Horses. Am also loving there’s lots of us here who also ‘indulge’. Mine isn’t just horses though it’s daily help to ‘do them’ at home so I can work a billion and eight hours and still enjoy having them.

echt · 17/03/2021 07:47

Theatre, ballet, opera.

The last two are recent and are because Melbourne is slowly opening up, so I'm grabbing it while I can after the cancelled shows last year.

Pre-Covid, foreign travel but that won't be happening any time soon.

Number16 · 17/03/2021 07:58

Wine (only £5 bottles from the supermarket but we get two a week so it's a lot over a month), good quality outdoor gear for the DC, take away once a month, expensive facial sunscreen for my oily skin

SylviaPlath1984 · 17/03/2021 08:16

I opened the thread expecting to be horrified at the materialism and then realised I buy/use/have a lot of the things listed here and didn't even think of them as luxuries... I'm a terrible person and clearly hugely ungrateful 😂 this thread has given me food for thought, so thanks op!

Not often you click on what you think will be an inflammatory thread and come out feeling grateful.

Franticbutterfly · 17/03/2021 08:19

An expensive car I drive about 3 miles a week in. 😳

Knitterbabe · 17/03/2021 08:49

Gorgeous hand wash from Petersham Nurseries, herb scented candles ( Crabtree and Evelyn Supper Club being my favourite), food shopping at M&S.

Knitterbabe · 17/03/2021 08:53

Oh, and my hobbies are knitting and gardening. I buy beautiful, expensive yarn as it is do much nicer to knot with than the ‘value’ yarn, and I love choosing beautiful pots, plants etc for the garden,

TiddyTid · 17/03/2021 09:46

Horse
Creme eggs

MaryIsA · 17/03/2021 09:54

Just spent £80 on a tree for the front garden. Which is going to look amazing. But I've thrown all my effort and energy into it as the back garden is just mud, builders, and earth moving equipment ... in reality once the back is done we aren't going to sit in the front garden much.

The bees are going to love it though.

countingto10 · 17/03/2021 10:01

Horse here too 😁 DH has shares in 4/5 racehorses so even more expensive. We’ll be living in a tent in our old age😂. It’s that old joke - How do you become a millionaire? Start off as a billionaire and buy a horse! 🤔
