Mulling this over as I look through job listings. I think for me it is enjoying fitness classes at different expensive studios, well pre covid it was. Not sure when we will be able to do that again! But I really enjoy it so much and it is definitely not an essential, I'm fortunate to be able to do so. We do live in an eye-wateringly expensive area so I guess that is partly a luxury, although we do need to live in this city for my partner's work.

What would you say is the most luxury aspect of your lifestyle?

Pre house and kid I bought a few Chanel handbags. None now for a few years. Still regularly use what I have.

Divebar2021 · 16/03/2021 18:38

And people say Mumsnet is middle class! 🙄

PattyPan · 16/03/2021 18:51

Organic food
Good quality bed linen
Minimalism - it's so nice to be able to give myself permission to get rid of things instead of hanging onto them just in case I want/need it later. I never do, the lack of clutter is so relaxing and buying less stuff means what I do buy can be nicer. E.g. I only have 5 pairs of shoes now rather than the 10+ I used to but they're not crappy ones that fall apart after a year any more (Samuel Vimes theory in action!)

Serin · 16/03/2021 19:30

I'm cheap, don't really do beauty or expensive clothes, don't have a cleaner, I do like to eat out and enjoy theatre or music gigs.
If I splurge on anything its expensive musical instruments for the kids (harps and piano), or art.

I dont have any more - focussed on paying off the mortgage and now we have kids our costs have risen somewhat.

When I was young and children DH and I various expensive sporty hobbies. We now have a garage full of the old gear!

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 16/03/2021 21:23

*childfree!

shiningstar2 · 16/03/2021 21:26

When not in lockdown holidays. Treating grandchildren. Wine.

HotPenguin · 16/03/2021 21:27

We go on lots of holidays, none of them expensive, always cheap.

junebirthdaygirl · 16/03/2021 21:28

Hairdresser..weekly blowdry..monthly colour. All before lockdock . Now l look like a sheep awaiting a good shearing. It has disadvantages as l have lost the knack of doing my own hair.

IdblowJonSnow · 16/03/2021 21:28

Botox. Although I only have it once a year.
And eating out/getting coffees.
That's it!

RaphaTwat · 16/03/2021 21:32

Lots of weekends away and nice experiences. We also used to spend a bit of a ridiculous amount of food and alcohol (we used to go out a lot!)

yoyo1234 · 16/03/2021 21:48

Pre lockdown eating out and cinema. Private school fees.

ScruffGin · 16/03/2021 21:58

Cleaner once a week Grin

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 16/03/2021 22:03

My car - not an expensive one, but not really essential in Central London

IncorrigibleTitmouse · 16/03/2021 22:10

Pre-Covid, regular weekend city breaks. Also nice restaurants. We deliberately only had one child so we could travel and do lots of nice things.

newme2014 · 16/03/2021 22:14

My 16 year old daughters 2 horses. Old horse was meant to be sold when we got new horse but 6 months on he is still here.
Old horse needs remedial shoes so £££ and new horse is a WBxTB who seems to have cut on her leg every few days so vets bills are a nightmare.
But keeps my girls mental health on an even keel so worth every penny.

LemonRoses · 16/03/2021 22:20

Our children. I don’t really do luxury and can’t abide a focus on image or brands.
I do like nice bedlinen, good coffee, fresh crustaceans, good wine and good cheese. I like flying business if it’s more than three hours.
I do like fresh flowers but my husband buys those each week.
Tea. I don’t like sawdust tea.
I like nice soap.

I dislike paste. I dislike cheap scent.

LemonRoses · 16/03/2021 22:21

Are the cleaners, the gardener and using a laundry luxury? I suppose they are now the children have flown.

Turnedouttoes · 16/03/2021 22:53

Previously holidays. Now all of our spare cash is going into our house deposit fund. I can’t imagine what we’ll spend an extra £2k a month on once we’ve finally bought somewhere but this thread is great inspiration Grin

LemonSwan · 16/03/2021 22:55

Food, shoes and coats

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 17/03/2021 00:34

Eating out
Days out
Holidays
Hairdressers
Pets
Botox
Subscription boxes
And unfortunately smoking. This is my biggest 'indulgence' and I hate that I do it. Need to stop and spend that 3k a year more wisely.

BaldricksWife · 17/03/2021 00:41

Horse(s)🙂

Halloweiner · 17/03/2021 00:45

I guess I would say it's not having to budget, or even check the prices of things in (most) shops. I wouldn't go into Harrods and do that, but I don't regularly check the prices of things in supermarkets or high street clothing stores for example.

blueshoes · 17/03/2021 01:05

Taking a full year out for both maternity leaves and then working part time for about 7 years after that before going back full time.

The children's private school.
