Mulling this over as I look through job listings. I think for me it is enjoying fitness classes at different expensive studios, well pre covid it was. Not sure when we will be able to do that again! But I really enjoy it so much and it is definitely not an essential, I'm fortunate to be able to do so. We do live in an eye-wateringly expensive area so I guess that is partly a luxury, although we do need to live in this city for my partner's work.

What would you say is the most luxury aspect of your lifestyle?

Travel (ah those were the days!)
Good car
Excellent quality bedding
Max Mara habit
Beauty products and Diptyque candles.
Fab quality wine

I need to cut back, its all nonsense stuff really except for travel but I do get a lot of pleasure from good things.

Gobbeldegook · 16/03/2021 17:19

Subscriptions to various things, I change them from time to time

Holothane · 16/03/2021 17:20

My blu rays at the moment it’s Classic who box sets as they come out, also a Tardis themed tv stand for my tv, later on the kitchen is being done.

gwenneh · 16/03/2021 17:21

Equestrian sports.

shockthemonkey · 16/03/2021 17:21

I'm so sorry about your horse nonevernotever.

For me it is my horse too. I went crazy for an absolutely beautiful but high-maintenance one. Which was not the original plan.

He is now retired but still taking a lot of headspace and heart-space and, even with his now-reduced bills, still noticeable wallet-space!

speakout · 16/03/2021 17:21

I don't have one that costs money.

Stuff doesn't do anything for me.

I like to treat myself well, but the things I do to feel good are usually free or very low cost.

AdoraBell · 16/03/2021 17:22

Live music and theatre.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 16/03/2021 17:24

Pets, lots of pets.
An order from Chapel Down every three months or so.
And being financially well off enough that DDs can both volunteer a lot of their spare time working for two local charities that fit with their ambitions for their working life after Uni, rather than them having to get a paid job somewhere that might not be quite so useful to them in the future.

grapewine · 16/03/2021 17:27

Travel and theatre, none of which has been possible for a very long time. So now I buy all the books instead,

MsHedgehog · 16/03/2021 17:31

New clothes regularly
Taxis as main form of transport
Weekend breaks in nice hotels

That said, being home for the past year has allowed me to save a lot of money and it's making me re-think my spending habits.

BoogleMcGroogle · 16/03/2021 17:31

We kept on DFILs alpine chalet after he died. Would have made more sense to sell it and invest the money. But waking up looking over the lake makes it worth it.

Juliesipadwillcallyouback · 16/03/2021 17:37

I don't have any massive indulgences, do my hair myself, don't get nails, waxing, anything like that, drive a shit car, don't buy expensive gin etc But every so often I will spunk money on a ridiculously expensive bath oil, or candle, or a bit of makeup.

Oh and also recently shoes as well!

PrimoPiatti · 16/03/2021 17:39

@SuperMumTum

To be reasonably satisfied, and not "ache" for "stuff" is, without a doubt, the greatest luxury you can have...

sodabreadjam · 16/03/2021 17:49

Art materials - some of which I don't use.

Subscriptions to various sites for genealogy research.

Having two cars when we could probably go down to one. Having said that, mine is tiny and costs next to nothing to run - and I would get very little for it if I got rid.

Movinghouseatlast · 16/03/2021 17:52

At the moment Freddie's Flowers and plants for my garden. I spent £600 on plants last week.

The flowers really cheer me up.

Totallyfedup1979 · 16/03/2021 17:53

I like to go on extended long haul vacations for up to 6 weeks at a time.

RolloTomassi · 16/03/2021 17:53

Takeaways/eating out Blush
Cleaner
Candles
Premium cosmetics

RandomUsernameHere · 16/03/2021 17:56

Private school for the DC
Two cars when we could make do with one (DH's is much more expensive than mine though)
Holidays (not at the moment obviously)
Organic food

KimchiLaLa · 16/03/2021 17:57

Clothes for myself (nothing too bad, Zara and primark, but I'll admit I don't need things) and for DD (when she doesn't need things).

WombatChocolate · 16/03/2021 17:57

Private schooling for the children.

ShinyMe · 16/03/2021 18:01

Now that I'm older and have a little more money, I like to spend a bit more and get the good theatre seats and first class on trains, rather than saving money by sitting way at the back of a theatre or squashing into a crowded train carriage.

ElevenBells · 16/03/2021 18:12

‘No drain’ tinned tuna. A good couple of quid more than regular tuna Grin

wingsandstrings · 16/03/2021 18:16

my weekly supermarket bill - I buy organic and free range where possible, lots of fruit including expensive exotic fruit and expensive berries like cherries, expensive snacks and nice stuff for the kids' packed lunches. We make cut-backs in lots of other areas so we can afford to eat really well at home.

SplendidSuns1000 · 16/03/2021 18:23

I'm a housewife so I don't work, I clean and cook but for 23 hours out of the day I can do whatever I like. Today DH had to travel for a work-related thing so I had the day to myself and spent it eating subway, drinking starbucks and sitting on the sofa with a box of quality street. I could do this every day if I wanted.

HermioneMakepeace · 16/03/2021 18:26

@SplendidSuns1000 I want your life Grin.
