Mulling this over as I look through job listings. I think for me it is enjoying fitness classes at different expensive studios, well pre covid it was. Not sure when we will be able to do that again! But I really enjoy it so much and it is definitely not an essential, I'm fortunate to be able to do so. We do live in an eye-wateringly expensive area so I guess that is partly a luxury, although we do need to live in this city for my partner's work.

What would you say is the most luxury aspect of your lifestyle?

Buying better meat from local butcher. Buying good coffee - online subscription. buying far too many wax melts from little companies like Cosy, Callan and Balneaves.

autumnkate · 16/03/2021 12:37

Working part time for sure

whatcangowrong · 16/03/2021 12:37

Hilarious thread :-)

Miranda79 · 16/03/2021 12:37

Upgrading our solar, buying green energy and offsetting our carbon. We bought an electric car (ouch) but the fact it is almost exclusively charged by the sun is brilliant!

Springersrock · 16/03/2021 12:39

Horses here too

One of them is retired so I don’t even get the enjoyment of riding her - she just mooches around, eating and costing a fortune while sharing her opinions on my tardiness with her breakfast and haynets.

BirdyBee · 16/03/2021 12:39

A huge pick and mix delivered once a month with all my favourite sweets in!

PussGirl · 16/03/2021 12:40

Crochet yarn

Expensive ketchup

DeadGood · 16/03/2021 12:42

I’m amazed at how many people have horses!

brushlaptop · 16/03/2021 12:42

Help round the house!

sandragreen · 16/03/2021 12:44

I live in one of the most desirable and expensive (property prices relative to average income) areas in the UK and I absolutely love it.

It's a silly indulgence but I can't give it up and have a much smaller property than I would have even if I moved 20 miles.

I also spend a ridiculous amount of my disposable income on travel not now obviously but have an 8 year old car.

Different priorities.......

ChazP · 16/03/2021 12:44

Ski-ing holiday. Insanely expensive, particularly now the kids are older so we have to go in school holidays. But we all love it. Wasn’t able to go last year or this year and have missed it so much.

Parker231 · 16/03/2021 12:49

Travel - both holidays to unusual parts of the world but also visits to our families in Belgium, Canada and US.

A regular cleaner - we have had the same one for years and is now a good friend

TakeTheRibbonFromYourHair · 16/03/2021 12:49

Working pt
BOTOX twice a year
Houseplants and pots
The very odd bit of overpriced homeware from Anthroplogie
Nice hand towels e.g. Missoni
A magazine approx once a fortnight

On the other hand I don't spend more than the bare minimum on hair, nails, make up, beauty treatments, skincare.
Love buying second hand everything but this isn't always cheaper as I buy more. And there are some duds.
No pets, no fancy car, no gym.

Don't spend overly much on food or drink.

I do need a new car though.

garlictwist · 16/03/2021 12:50

I had a gym membership before lockdown that I used every day for gym and swim. But over lockdown I've realised how much money I've saved so might not bother and just jog for exercise.

My biggest expenditure is books and expensive chocolate.

PumpkinParent · 16/03/2021 12:50

Free range or organic meat once a week and Lego for the kids.

Vieve1325 · 16/03/2021 12:51

Horse.

BertieDugger · 16/03/2021 12:53

Used to be my horse, now it's a wine club membership, nice car, holidays (would be holidays if we could go away anyway!) and have just finished extending and renovating our thatched cottage which eats more money than anything else. Current favourite extravagance is plants for the garden.

poppycat10 · 16/03/2021 12:53

Just before lockdown last year I spent £700 on a turbo trainer so that I could ride my bike in the garage, I suppose that's the biggest indulgence I've had recently along with the accompanying £13 a month Zwift membership.

AliceAbsolum · 16/03/2021 12:57

Outdoor gear.

tinkerbellvspredator · 16/03/2021 12:59

Cleaner
Kids activities

TillyTopper · 16/03/2021 12:59

Our house - we deliberately bought something that was for us a luxury and we loved being in. Tbh it's paid off - we've had to do no work in the house, the garden looks after itself (hate gardening!) and honestly I find a lot of hotels are not as nice as our home so we have been away much less since we bought it.

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 16/03/2021 13:03

Takeaways / Gousto boxes. Regular massages and facials.

tinkerbellvspredator · 16/03/2021 13:03

@GreenShadow your car is your indulgence you're paying out for something it sounds like you barely use. We don't have a car but do have a cleaner.

SpnBaby1967 · 16/03/2021 13:12

My car & I have started to collect Radley handbags.

I actually dont spend much on myself, but I LOVE my car & I do like a decent handbag

RatherBeRiding · 16/03/2021 13:16

Horses (plural).Plus rather nice horsebox to transport said horses. (My personal transport is a very small, rather old car that is little more than a mobile tack room and very, very, very dirty!)

I have no other indulgences. Can't bloody afford them.
