I’d change the kitchen cupboards and potentially install different doors out to garden... I really like it, DH thinks garden too small (family of 4).

I’ve obviously been out of the UK too long... there are two of us and our house is bigger and cost less than half that and it has a pool and is on the beach. I don’t remember the UK being so expensive? The bedrooms are tiny. At least one of them would only be a closet here.

I actually love the kitchen cupboards but think a style like that has a very short “shelf-life”.

userxx · 06/06/2020 22:16

@BritWifeinUSA You want to have a look at some of the house prices in the south. Eye watering.

Mrskeats · 06/06/2020 22:21

God thunder
I dint get how people afford to live in those areas.
I shall stick to the north.

Newbie1999 · 06/06/2020 22:22

Thanks everyone, really appreciate your opinions!

@WellDidYa, why the negativity towards Horsham?

Happycow · 06/06/2020 22:30

Having viewed that house the garden isnt too small for a family of 4 but as PP have said needs a lot of work (lawning for a start).

Also there is a reason why there are no pics of upstairs...

I'm really surprised by all the anti Crawley comments. I've lived there for over 22 happy years. I've made many good friends, my DC are now at excellent universities after doing well at the local schools. My DC results were higher than their cousins who went to private schools. There's lots to do here, 35 minutes to central London or the coast. My DC had lovely childhoods going to the local school, cubs and other little clubs. There are lots of restaurans, gyms, hotels with spas (that's my thing), a nice theatre, parks. I'm pleased I moved here to raise my family. We moved because of the fast trains from three bridges and I'm pleased we did.I
Crawlely is quite a big area and includes a couple of nice villages. Pound hill is a good area.

Wynston · 06/06/2020 22:55

Crazy isnt it......im west wales could get a huge property with land for that kind of money but not the jobs to be able to afford it.
The open plan is nice....garden low maintenance. Looks like easy living.
I wont lie im not overly keen on the red kitchen-although have no room to comment as we have original 70's high gloss....although in white.
Have you viewed the property op??

@WellDidYa, why the negativity towards Horsham?

I grew up just outside Crawley, and spent time in both Crawley and Horsham (and Redhill/ Reigate)

If horsham was a woman, I'd say she's a bit up herself, its quite insular.
Crawley, well there are nice bits and some not so nice bits, but it doesn't pretend to be better than it is

Coffeeisnecessary · 06/06/2020 23:07

I'm with you @WellDidYa that's a good description of Horsham! It's a nice place to visit and a pretty town centre, but Crawley is much more convenient for shops etc. Have you thought about Haywards Heath op?

MMN123 · 06/06/2020 23:15

I find Crawley, Reigate and Horsham all ok - but it’s a long way out of you are used to town. Zone 5/6 has properties in the right price range which keeps commuting costs down. I wouldn’t leap from rented flat to detached four bed - a semi or terraced in a reasonable suburb will allow you to get into town in 20 minutes but still plenty of countryside nearby. And plenty of room for the kids. Purley is 20 minutes to town. www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-68207682.html

amillionnamechangeslater000 · 06/06/2020 23:24

@Newbie1999 I like Horsham (think I suggested it earlier). But that said - I used to work there - I live in London (albeit Blackheath which is probably a London equivalent).

Horsham is a market type town, Crawley is well, like Croydon but greener. It depends what you like.

Griselda1 · 06/06/2020 23:25

I love the tree in the front garden, really striking. My friend has this kitchen in a burgundy colour and the high gloss finish shows every finger print but maybe that's not an issue for you.The study is a very strange little room, maybe it's more suitable for storage or hanging coats as I can't imagine how you could use it as a study.

Givingup123456 · 06/06/2020 23:28

İ live just a 9 minutes drive away op. That's a bargain price for a detached house! Pound hill is good.

Depends if you are looking for a job though. A lot of people here work neat Gatwick and are struggling but if you already have a job and close by then yes i would buy that house. it's lovely

Givingup123456 · 06/06/2020 23:30

Also Horsham is lovely. Our family business is there. But a different class to Crawley. The people are lovely but have more expensive taste and high expectations in our opinion an experience. Not all but a lot

Givingup123456 · 06/06/2020 23:36

Saying that we plan to move to Horsham when just before my eldest needs to apply for secondary school as we think their schools are better than east grinstead. Which we are in the catchment area for. İ would move just for school

Porridgeoat · 06/06/2020 23:37

The red units are ace!

Iadoremylabrador · 06/06/2020 23:44

I think it looks great. I even like the red kitchen. But maybe living with it would give me a headache after awhile. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Might be easier to tell after viewing in person.

The garden is a good size for 2 children and easy to maintain. You could get rid of some of the patio and it would make it feel larger.

Lack of en-suite wouldn't be a problem for me. I hate al these new houses with a bathroom for every room. As long as there are 2 loos (1 up and 1 down) then I'm happy, but maybe that's because we don't have a cleaner and I don't want to be responsible for cleaning multiple bathrooms. 😂

I hope the upstairs is as nice as the downstairs. I viewed a house recently that didn't have photos of every room and it wasn't because the rooms weren't nice it was because they were full of tech!

TheTrollFairy · 06/06/2020 23:45

As others have said, crawly has been mentioned quite a few times as being one of the worst hit by this pandemic.
I live in sussex (not sure on crawly) seems like a good price for the size - we have been looking at similar priced houses which are 1,000sqft.
I think for a house like this then it will depend on your budget, if this is the top end of your budget then I would avoid as it looks like it needs work (even if that’s just a makeover) which could add further £x,xxx onto your spend.
The garden is fine for 2 kids but I would definitely change it to make it more suitable

eyesbiggerthanstomach · 07/06/2020 00:00

I have lived in lots of different places and now love living in Horsham. Personally I wouldn't move to Crawley for all the money in the world. I don't want to offend anyone but I find it very depressing. Just wandering around the town centre is soul destroying. I would advise you visit the town and some surrounding towns before you decide.

MaggieFS · 07/06/2020 06:50

@Happycow How funny! Do spill the beans on upstairs!

oohnicevase · 07/06/2020 07:03

@Welldidya
Thats is so bang on and I live here !! Brilliant!!😂😂

oohnicevase · 07/06/2020 07:04

@WellDidYa

sashh · 07/06/2020 07:12

I'm wondering about who lives there now. There apears to be a huge wmpty wine rackin the living room and a smaller one in the kitchen. The TV in the kitchen looks as though you watch it from outside.

The garden isn't, as otherrs have said but would easily convert to a play space for small children.

Shoxfordian · 07/06/2020 07:12

I like the red kitchen, but you'd have to have quite modern furniture to go in it or be prepared to buy it if not, the pine does not work at all. I actually hate pine anyway but still. Might be better to have an extra bathroom upstairs. I like the garden. Probably worth viewing.

maddiemookins16mum · 07/06/2020 07:23

I think it’s great (bar the red cupboards’). The garden is fine, they can play out there (keeping in mind in less than 10 years they’ll be in their bedrooms ignoring you).
