Are we clapping today or not?

Feeling jittery. Neighbour is a paramedic and takes it all very seriously. What if she steps out and no one else turns up?

I hope 8pm passes without any awkwardness or cringe.

I thought last week was the last clap

PumpkinP · 04/06/2020 15:40

Nope. Never have done. Needs to stop.

Redolent · 04/06/2020 15:41

I thought and hope so too. I’m just dreading the cringe of some people coming out on their own and/or the curtain twitching.

I forgot last week was supposed to be the last clap. I'm unsure whether it was ever confirmed or not though...

Pleasenodont · 04/06/2020 15:43

Last week was the final one.

Willow2017 · 04/06/2020 15:43

No the person who started it said it should end last week.

If your neighbour goes out she hasnt been listening!

Flyingunicornsmyass · 04/06/2020 15:43

My sister in law is a front line nurse, both of my best friends are in the medical field (paramedic and doctor), all 3 of them are sick of it. Obviously they don't speak for everyone, but we have been signing petitions for PPE and buying out NHS friends takeout instead of clapping, people are still unhappy either way though. Do whatever works for you. No disrespect to your neighbour, but she's not in charge.

IncrediblySadToo · 04/06/2020 15:43

NEEDS to stop?

Who do you think you are. It's not your decision. People can do what they want.

Just because she started it, doesn't mean she gets to say everyone has to stop.

But it’s this ambiguity that’s the problem!! It was already awkward enough, and now this...

It’s gone on long enough. The person who started it even said it should be the last.

drivingmisspotty · 04/06/2020 15:49

Agee @Redolent it definitely has the potential to be really awkward! But I guess it does have to stop sometime... At least I guess if you don’t go out tonight you said you thought it had finished, but if you go tonight doesn’t that mean you have to KEEP going for a very long time?

RainMustFall · 04/06/2020 15:52

Nope - never started, won't start now.

Redolent · 04/06/2020 15:53

That’s very true. I’m definitely not going out tonight. The plan:
  • Pace around nervously from 7.50
  • Peer out of window at 7.59
  • Dive underneath the bed if neighbour emerges

Once was more than enough. Stop it now.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 04/06/2020 15:56

Never did it. Not going to do it either.

Tattoocrazymum · 04/06/2020 15:59

I have been out front almost every Thursday (sometimes were having dinner so dont get the chance to)
Were not doing it anymore

WitchyMoo · 04/06/2020 16:00

Last week there was a last clap , my neighbours mentioned it was the last one when they were clapping

Felifox · 04/06/2020 16:00

You can have too much of a good thing, it has less meaning. There is no Clap for Carers spot on BBC tonight

Noextremes2017 · 04/06/2020 16:03

NO.

Willow2017 · 04/06/2020 16:03

Just because she started it, doesn't mean she gets to say everyone has to stop.

Well carry on if you want to but if something is someones idea then they do get to say enough is enough now.

How long do you think this should go on? How long should people put up with car horns, bagpipes, other 'musicians', fireworks, yelling, pans banging and clapping disturbing their peace, thier sleep and waking up thier kids every Thursday?

missyB1 · 04/06/2020 16:06

Dh is NHS he and his colleagues say the public can support them best now by pressuring the Government on funding/ resources/ pay and recruitment. These are the areas where staff need the public behind them. They don’t ask for claps they just want to be valued and respected by the public and their employer - the Government.

Porcupineinwaiting · 04/06/2020 16:07

No, we're out catching the virus instead.

MandalaYogaTapestry · 04/06/2020 16:08

There is an initiative to kneel for BLM tonight, in place of clapping. At 6 pm

highmarkingsnowbile · 04/06/2020 16:09

No.
