Feeling jittery. Neighbour is a paramedic and takes it all very seriously. What if she steps out and no one else turns up?

I hope 8pm passes without any awkwardness or cringe.

The woman didn't 'invent' it!

Redglitter · 04/06/2020 19:38

Just seen this being shared. Ffs this is getting ridiculous.

Are we clapping today or not?
Willow2017 · 04/06/2020 19:56

Redglitter
Holy shit! They just love a 'good cause' dont they?
Any excuse to make a racket!
Is this just a one off or do they expect people to do it every bloody sunday?
I would be posting "I dont need some neighbour to tell me anything thanks I can figure it out myself I did years ago"

Willow2017 · 04/06/2020 19:57

Just when parents think they will get thier kids to sleep now school is back...Sunday night!!

CodenameVillanelle · 04/06/2020 20:07

I just had a sneaky look out the window and nobody came out thank fuck. However the lady who wanted to keep it going has been fighting her corner valiantly on Facebook in the face of many many people telling her it's done

Flyinggeese · 04/06/2020 20:07

UnfinishedSymphon good luck to you - and maybe not needed if the clapping has stopped?

Fab user name BTW. :)

TheFlis12345 · 04/06/2020 20:13

Not a squeak here!

Redolent · 04/06/2020 20:26

Only a hint of a curtain twitch from neighbour.

Thank fuck it’s over.

I clap continually to prove my devotion. Doesn’t everybody?

BeltaneBride · 04/06/2020 21:16

Nothing here tonight mercifully. No pans , fireworks nada.

happymummy12345 · 04/06/2020 21:27

Nothing on our street. There was a family over the road who used to make a big thing about it. They used to look up and down the street to see who was out.
We have never joined in

lovelyupnorth · 04/06/2020 21:27

Never did it glad it’s done with and any bastard that voted Tory an clapped should hang their head in shame.

RedRed9 · 04/06/2020 21:31

Personally I’m not happy unless my hands are raw and bleeding @BirdieFriendReturns

TimeWastingButFun · 04/06/2020 21:31

I'm so glad I don't have neighbours and I only did it the first week which felt odd, just us! A thank you has to be a spontaneous thing. Time to move on.

WitchyMoo · 04/06/2020 21:42

The usual fireworks in broad daylight at 8pm went ahead Confused. No clappers or pan bashing tho

WitchyMoo · 04/06/2020 21:45

I thought the BLM kneeling was happening today at 6pm ? I was confused and didnt know if I had to kneel for 8 minutes Hmm

DrMadelineMaxwell · 04/06/2020 21:45

Blisfully peaceful here today.

Respect the NHS by distancing and following whatever restrictions are currently in place, that's what everyone needs to do.

bengalcat · 04/06/2020 21:47

All quiet round here tonight hurrah - dog very happy .

Crunchymum · 04/06/2020 22:47

@WitchyMoo according to the post above the BLM kneel is 8pm on Sunday.

According to link someone posted earlier in thread it was yesterday

Are we clapping today or not?
UnfinishedSymphon · 04/06/2020 22:53

@Flyinggeese there was clapping, loud music, pots and pans and fireworks. No-one knocked on the door though and nothing on FB yet, hopefully it was the last hurrag

VickyEadieofThigh · 05/06/2020 09:46

Someone said earlier in the thread that the BBC weren't reporting it any more. Not sure if it was covered on the BBC, but this week's and next week's Radio Times have listed at 8pm to 8.05pm, "Clap for carers".

I haven't done the clapping, largely because I live in an area with a massive Tory majority and know that my neighbours are lifelong Tory voters who want to pay as little tax as possible, want everything out of the NHS, but appear to have no idea how it's funded. It's an insult to NHS workers to pretend to care and then blithely let it be dismantled.

Flyinggeese · 05/06/2020 13:38

@UnfinishedSymphonoh no! Make it sto

everybodysang · 05/06/2020 13:53

there was a TV show? What was on it?

I cried my eyes out the first week everyone clapped - it was so lovely. Didn't even go outside because I assumed nobody would do it and was putting DD to bed when it started - we ended up clapping from the window. The next week was nice too - good to see neighbours and just hear the presence of other people.

Then it started getting more and more awkward and weird. By the week before last our neighbours were blatantly breaking lockdown in pretty shitty ways and still going out to clap.

DD really liked it so went along with it for her sake but am deeply relieved it's over.
