Asparagus has to be handpicked I understand and involves walking up and down the rows picking the occasional mature stem. Not even like berry picking where there will be more fruit in smaller area.

Wellwellwhathavewehere · 05/06/2020 22:05

Curtains. I always seem to need custom made sizes, in every house I have lived in. The windows always seemed pretty standard!

Rahma051118 · 05/06/2020 22:12

Desinfectant hand gels ..if you are lucky to find them.
I agree with cauliflower, they are small and mostly with lots of leaves.
Paper tissues got more expensive, too since the pandemic.
Branded pizza, I always buy the shop's own label pizza

Baby sleeping bags

Mumoflittles · 05/06/2020 22:35

@sqirrelfriends
Totally with you on the nappy bin refills! Also mattresses

Ratherberightthanhappy · 05/06/2020 23:33

@Polpotnoodle but is it magic?!

Tattygran14 · 05/06/2020 23:37

Daily Telegraph. £2.50 !

Ratherberightthanhappy · 05/06/2020 23:39

ELECTRIC TOOTHBRUSH HEADS. WTF?

MrsP2018 · 06/06/2020 00:31

My glasses frames got bent and then finally snapped by the little one, due to covid 19 I couldn't have a new eye test (mine doesn't run out till Oct anyway) so the only choice I had as they would not give me a full brand new pair without an eye test, even though mine had not run out!! Was to pay £60 to have my lenses fitted to the same frame, fine by me... They only frame they had left of mine "anywhere" apparently, was the display frame which every Tom dick and Harry have probably tried on and mauled which is a thought in the current situation but it was that or nothing and I literally can't see without them, but £60 for some display old ones I thought was a rip off when they are doing new frames and lenses for £80!!

@Rahma051118 I've got a few anti-bac gels now from different shops. The stock is starting to return to normal.

Mainly Boots. I got a large bottle of Carex gel for £4. The little handbag pod sizes of Carex were £2.50 each too. Stocked up on what I could.

Asda have 1L sized pump bottles of anti-bac gel for £8. Could decent into any handbag sized bottles for ease.

Home Bargains have small bottles for 99p too.

CatAndHisKit · 06/06/2020 01:34

Tights - they never last more than a couple of wears (10-15 denier)

Dieu · 06/06/2020 06:37

I received a Longines watch for my 40th. A replacement battery costs £50, so I never actually wear my present Sad

SerenDippitty · 06/06/2020 09:17

Re tights. I’m pretty sure they could make long lasting unladderable tights if they wanted to. It just wouldn’t make business sense!

I got a Longines watch for my 50th. Replacement battery costs £75, the watch has to be sent to Switzerland, and battery lasts a year. So it costs £75 a year to wear. Is this the case with all high end watches?

Isaidnomorecrisps · 06/06/2020 09:31

@LakeTittyHaHa
I found Paramount Plants which are really good, after much searching for Japanese loquats - don’t ask - killed 2 given to me

Isaidnomorecrisps · 06/06/2020 09:37

@SerenDippitty
I KNOW
Was given a (bottom end 😀) Cartier for my 30th and gave up in the end. Actually got physically distraught with the fake fawning in the shop when I had to go in and they’d tell me it was £300 (omg) to “open it up and do a complete whatever”. Such a load of utter sh*t! Anyway my mum went to a local good jeweller in Cardiff who’s been changing for me really cheaply ever since and then I gave up completely. Going to get a cheap stylish reliable one instead.

Dieu · 06/06/2020 10:25

@SerenDippitty

I feel your pain! A high-end jeweller should be able to do it on site. Maybe even Timpson if you ask them nicely Grin The cost of the battery is still so high though, as it has to be a Longines one.

Dieu · 06/06/2020 10:27

And Snag tights are pretty unladderable.

honeyharris · 06/06/2020 10:46

Sofas. I've had used cars that cost less

user1472151176 · 06/06/2020 11:05

Cans or bottled convenience drinks eg coca cola 500ml from a news agents. £1.55! Walk around the corner of the same shop and buy a 1.5L bottle of coca cola for £1.00! What's that all about?!

BikeRunSki · 06/06/2020 11:06

@SerenDippitty, I have a Tissott watch which should be the same. In reality, I have had the battery replaced at The Watch Doctor several times, with no problem. Cost is less than £20, usually takes about an hour. They can’t do the waterproofness test that Yisdott would do, but I don’t wear my watch for swimming or washing up, so that is not really a problem.

Cheap ones are available though. Second hand or Ikea. If someone spends 600 pounds on a sofa, that's a choice.

the news agent buys it from the cash/carry, the supermarket buys in bulk (huge bulk) directly from manufacturer...

Gwenhwyfar · 06/06/2020 11:14

No point getting a big bottle of coca cola as the fizz will go once you've opened it.
Buying bulk is usually cheaper, but not an option for those of us who walk to the shops and live in small homes.

honeyharris · 06/06/2020 12:08

Yeah we always go second hand leather sofas

CatherineTheNotSoGreat · 06/06/2020 12:35

Bottled water.
It’s so expensive. Especially branded stuff. I don’t get it. It’s mostly more expensive than petrol! Petrol! That has to be ‘discovered’, drilled out of the Earth, stored, refined, stored safely again, transported across the world, delivered to garages, stored in specialised petrol stations, with special equipment (pumps). Then water - see it, ensure it’s safe, bottle it and ship it off. Charge a fortune for it. All the eye rolls. And as for restaurant prices for it!
