do you give yourself the best looking food?

I do all the cooking (i love it), my husband cleans up after (a mammoth task because I use everything in the kitchen).

When im dishing up I tend to take the best looking bits e.g. crispiest roast potatoes, best looking veg etc.

My husband would never notice to busy shovelling it in haha.

Do you do the same?

Good question I used to give it to others, always, however now I’m older I’m a bit 50/50 depending on whether I think they appreciate it.

Hillarious · 03/06/2020 09:49

All my food's good, so it's not a problem.

Dahlietta · 03/06/2020 09:49

I tend to snaffle the best bits yet, but my husband deliberately gives them to me. I love him.

Epigram · 03/06/2020 09:49

No! I would always give the best bits to my DC and DH. Maybe because I eat anything Grin

GinDaddyRedux · 03/06/2020 09:49

Shovelling? Why not eat it in front of him and claim cook's privilege?

HappyDinosaur · 03/06/2020 09:49

Funny that you mention roast potatoes, that is the one and only thing I would do this with, otherwise I don't care. The best roasties are mine!

Chillipeanuts · 03/06/2020 09:50

No, the opposite. Always have. I annoy myself 😁

arethereanyleftatall · 03/06/2020 09:50

Nope, never. I always give myself the worst. Anyone and everyone else gets better stuff. I'm not happy that I do this but can't help it.

ForeverBubblegum · 03/06/2020 09:50

No, or at least not since I was about 12 and helping my mum. Then I would try to make mine better then my siblings, but as an adult it seems kind of selfish. Everyone wants the 'best bits', why should your DH never get them.

SharonasCorona · 03/06/2020 09:51

Actually the opposite for me. If I've cooked it, I know it's all good, so I'll give the better looking food to my mum / guests. DH gets the same as me.

SharonasCorona · 03/06/2020 09:52

why should your DH never get them.

Because he hasn't cooked it.

greeeen1223 · 03/06/2020 09:52

To clarify he shovels his food in, his family were terrible cooks when he was growing up so anything I make amazes him even though its just a cottage pie or something haha

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 03/06/2020 09:54

No. I always give the best-looking food to my DH so I get more complements about how it looks.

MayFayner · 03/06/2020 09:55

I like roast potatoes slightly burnt so I take the smaller, burnt-y ones and give the bigger, golden ones to DH and DD.

If everyone likes the same I will give it to others as I’m too much of a martyr to be seen to be greedy (so I scoff a bit in the kitchen on the sly while dishing up Smile )

chrestomamci · 03/06/2020 09:55

Threads like this make me laugh. If someone posted their DH did this there was be cries of LTB, abusive and restricting the OPs access to decent food.

In answer to your question I spread the “best looking” food across all plates but usually give them to our DC

arethereanyleftatall · 03/06/2020 09:56

I remember once a friend of mine pouring whisky for 4 of us in my house. We have one decent whisky glass. I remember being gobsmacked that he took that one for himself. Not in a negative or positive way, just that I'd never seen that before.

Elouera · 03/06/2020 09:56

Opposite here too. There isn't really any difference with the food overall, but 1 plate might look nicer.

Even if you do cook, its cheeky to ALWAYS take the better bits! I try to evenly share say a piece of crackling out for example.

Redyoyo · 03/06/2020 09:58

My dh doesn't like his food touching other food on the plate so mine always looks nicer as his is all spread out - weirdo.

greeeen1223 · 03/06/2020 09:58

@chrestomamci he cooks us bacon sandwiches on a Saturday and he always takes the best bacon, i dont care he cooked it! Nobody is restricting food he has a huge portion i just have a smaller better looking portion!

No I always give them to others - I’m no saint, but cooking is how I show love to my family.

In fact I very clearly remember the moment I noticed I now give all the juiciest steaks, best roast potatoes Etc to my step son (and not my DH) and realising that I must love him! He is an absolutely darling boy to be fair Grin

Ninkanink · 03/06/2020 10:01

No, I divide it between us. I adore my DH and wouldn’t ever deprive him of lovely things to my own gain. He does exactly the same for me when he cooks.

But he’s got a discerning palate so appreciates the nuances of good food.

Batqueen · 03/06/2020 10:03

It depends, I give him more of stuff he really likes but I’m more sensitive to things being cooked ‘just right’ so I choose what I want there.

ellabella18 · 03/06/2020 10:05

I always give the best bits to dc Smile

AGrownManMadeWager · 03/06/2020 10:10

DH does the cooking, he always gives me the best bits 💙

1forsorrow · 03/06/2020 10:10

Only with strawberries.
