Neighbours children?

The past couple of weeks the neighbours children about 6 girls have been playing out outside our house screaming loudly all day going up and down on their bikes. They have no road safety and are weaving in out in front of cars. They are loud all day until about 8 o clock at night and you can hear them shouting even if the windows are closed.

AIBU to mention something to their parents?

Depends, are there parents the kind that would be grateful and concerned or tell you to piss of? How old are the kids?

I don't know all of the girl's parents, just some of them but they seem nice enough so I think they would respond okay but they don't intervene ever they just leave their children to play out on the road all day until the late evening and don't check on them so not sure what they will say. I get they should be allowed to play out but its excessive and very disruptive.

I think they are about 6/7 years old roughly.

Then maybe have a polite word along the lines of you appreciate it’s hard for kids at the moment etc but you would be grateful if they could lower the noise in the evening, given the weather you’d like the have your windows open.

Sounds awful. Yes I’d say something. It’s isn’t fair on everyone else, making all that noise.

Yanbu!i was always told if i screamed or got too loud i was going to come in as my neighbours did not want to hear me screaming!
I’d also be concerning they could get hurt.

Hmmm I think that seems young. I’m not sure I would let my 7 year old out all day on the road on her bike without check very regularly. And I live in a small rural village where everyone knows everyone etc. The traffic thing is a real risk. Or are you more upset about the noise?

I'm worried about both to be honest there is a blind bend and I think the way they are on the road is very dangerous and an accident waiting to happen. But the noise is excessive too.

Leave them to enjoy what they can during lockdown! Parents are totally stressed as it is without some busybody neighbour trying to tell them their children don't know the green cross code!

If they are not from the same family they shouldn’t be out altogether should they? I’d say something - at the moment so many people are working from home everyone should be a little more considerate.

@understandmenow I'm hardly a busybody they have been doing it for weeks and as a responsible adult I am concerned they are putting themselves in danger. And why should everyone have to listen to screaming and shouting 24/7 without their parents checking on them? They shouldn't just let them out on the road with no teachings about road safety and no concern for their wellbeing for hours an end because they don't want to keep an eye on them.

@worried23xxx the didn't realise it was 24/7, yeah 2am is taking the piss! Maybe call the police at 2am?

You "think" they're 6/7 and they've been doing it for weeks, how many accidents in the "weeks"?

Move away from your net curtains and don't tell others how to parent their children is my advice.

@understandmenow Ah yes I forgot 24/7 was always meant to be taken literally. A single phrase I used shows I'm prone to exaggerating how perceptive of you.

Yeah that makes sense so if people have been driving dangerously for years and have never had an accident that means they won't ever have an accident great logic. We should all just drive dangerously and allow everyone to be in danger and say nothing about it.

@worried23xxx you obviously can parent better that any of the girls parents, crack on and tell them how to do it...... good luck with that!

You don't even know the families well enough to know how old the "girls" are.

Yeah I think its crucial when you see something dangerous and disruptive happening to know every intricate detail of the people who are involved and their families. What I'll do is I'll have a meet and greet with the parents and get all the girls birthdays before I make a comment that it might not be the best thing to do to leave your children unattended for hours all day whilst they weave in and out of traffic. I didn't say I was a better parent don't know where you got that from you seem a bit sensitive...

@worried23xxx perhaps do a zoom parenting course and tell them about the bend? Maybe they've not seen it?

@worried23xxx not sensitive, mine are well grown up and I didn't need neighbours exposing the layout of the road, I could see it for myself.

How many accidents so far did you say?

OP I know exactly what you mean. In my area the past few weeks it's been up until 10:30pm ish.
Unfortunately the parents aren't really ones who you can talk to!

Ah great suggestion! How callous of me to be concerned about the wellbeing of children who might get hit by a car on a blind bend. Maybe we should introduce some legislation that all parents should leave their children unattended on bikes with no logic of road safety until late at night because @understandmenow thinks that means you're a great parent! I'll get Boris on the phone now.

@understandmenow Everytime I've stood in the road I haven't been hit by a car (so far). So applying your logic I will just stand in the middle of the road all day because there have been no accidents so far so I can't hit by a car. I'm enlightened.
