To think the lockdown needs to end now?

I could understand a lockdown being imposed for a few weeks to make sure the NHS was up to capacity, but it’s gone well beyond that. The NHS now has lots of excess capacity and yet here we still are.

I am horrified by what has happened to our civil liberties, what it’s doing to our children’s education, what it’s doing to everyone’s livelihoods and mental health, what it’s doing to the economy, how people are not getting life-saving treatment for things like cancer, etc.

I don’t understand why people aren’t given the right to choose to self-isolate if they need to but for the rest of us to be allowed to get on with our lives and to take responsibility for ourselves.

I don’t understand why people who are not old and don’t have underlying health conditions are acting hysterically and why people have decided it’s OK to police other people’s behaviour and shout at them in the street.

I feel like I’m living in some kind of awful dystopian society.

I realise I’m in the minority here but does anyone agree with me?

OP posts:

YABVU:

The death rate is NOT declining and whilst the numbers WERE going initially and we were down to around 230 deaths per week, ever since VE day the whole of uk apparently has decided we can go back to normal, the death rate has doubled and our wards which were once starting to turn green are now all turning red again.

The problem with idiots like you and @petrifiedprawn is because you don't actually SEE what is happening in our hospitals and you are BORED you are trotting out incorrect information and pathetic justifications.

Just stop.

Mummykate01 · 03/06/2020 18:35

I totally agree it should end now. I agree to about the awful effect it’s having on children. I have 2 children aged 9 months and 2 who sleep terrible so parenting without any support or break is really effecting my mental health and I believe there development

Parker231 · 03/06/2020 18:35

Yes, everyone is responsible for their own actions but what if you affect someone who is vulnerable?

MarshaBradyo · 03/06/2020 18:35

Couldn’t agree with you more. And unfortunately as you said we are the minority and common sense seems to be in very short supply. The most scary of all is the inability of people to distinguish between fake news and reality and are incapable to process any data or vital statistics and information Rather than being told what to do and blindly following

You’d be better off listening to the CMO and scientists at the daily briefings.

Langpants · 03/06/2020 18:36

Gee, there are some nasty people on Mumsnet. If you don’t like the post, then scroll on by. 👋🏻
I agree OP.

MdNdD · 03/06/2020 18:39

I’m with you OP.

Casiloco · 03/06/2020 18:42

Unless you are an epidemiologist with a crystal ball, then yes, you are being VVVVVVVVU

Bizawit · 03/06/2020 18:44

Perfectly articulated OP. I agree with you 100%. Sadly we are still in a minority. But a growing minority, at least.. I think

Mummadeeze · 03/06/2020 18:47

I know this might sound trivial but trying to get to the bank or the post office whilst working has become so hard. I had to wait for over an hour and a half yesterday to return a pair of shoes that don’t fit my DD. And I am only meant to take an hour for lunch. She has grown out of all her shoes now and shopping online for them is almost impossible because she has funny feet. It is things like that that are annoying because I am sure they could have more than two people working in a whole big post office and no longer reduce their opening hours. I also don’t understand why banks can’t open on Saturday or for normal hours in the week. The queues are ridiculous and make the street much more congested. And it is annoying that my DD can go back to school but only 2 days a week. There are lots of things I think they could make a bit less strict now to make life a bit easier.

Gmom · 03/06/2020 18:48

Totally agree with OP.

Namechange8186 · 03/06/2020 18:50

I mean I want it to end more than anything , it’s really fucking up my life tbh

But wanting it to end and it being a good decision are two different things

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 03/06/2020 18:50

@Parker231

Aah we don't matter. We're low hanging fruit apparently.
pigoons · 03/06/2020 18:51

In response to PP I would be happy for dentists and teachers to make their own risk assessments - I don't understand why is it is always either / or.

There has to be ways of managing the risks instead of leaving people for months with dental pain or children with potential vision issues that could affect them for a lifetime or with a crappy education based on online resources and parents / carers who are not qualified to teach.

If individuals are at particular risk they should be shielded and frankly if people think the risk of returning to work is to great for them then resign.

Shallwedancetomojito · 03/06/2020 18:53

I mean they're okay with this protest that's been happening but they're not okay with opening back the schools. It does get you thinking.

To think the lockdown needs to end now?

So you're happy for teachers and dentists to do their own risk assessments but when they don't concur with your demands they should resign?

So, they can't do their own risk assessment then, they must accept yours? Ok then.

@DomDoesWotHeWants thank you for the link. How sad. Relieved to know it was just one instead of many though.

user1485851222 · 03/06/2020 19:02

I agree 100%, if people are genuinely worried, let them put themselves in lockbox. For those of us that aren't, give me my life back. Great to hear someone else has the same opinion as me....

Parker231 · 03/06/2020 19:07

@pigoons - why should people resign from their jobs if they are in the vulnerable health group?

nellodee · 03/06/2020 19:07

@MarginalGain I've looked it up. New cases in Stockholm county have been relatively stable.

New cases on 1st May = 141
New cases on 29th May = 173

That's not looking like herd immunity to me.

JFM27 · 03/06/2020 19:11

attackedbycritters. If you seriously believe that Johnson and his gang will evrr get test and tracing right. All we hear are promises which rarely seem to come true

My dad lived to 98 but he had a no resuciation notice because he didnt want to lie in hospital bed for weeks, full of tubes,a vegetable.I agreed,i adored my dad but he was 98 i knew he couldnt live for ever.i accepted his wishes,The nurse in his residential home said to me, "im glad you agreed" i said why, i know my dad wouldnt want to exist that way hes had a good life, dont all children agree.O no she said they want them saved at any price, whatever their condition. And to be honest if was my father today,id say the same,if he had died with the virus, noone can live for ever, people have to accept that, saving people at any cost seems wrong to me,when many others lives are ruined. And id say losing your job, with very little chance if another, your home maybe,is ruining peoples lives.

The virus doesent kill all older people many in 90s,even 100 have recovered.,possibly those who dont survive would have died of the flu, maybe or just old age.Poverty kills too you know and many will suffer that. Also think of what social isolation will do to many older people who live alone. No pensioners clubs,no chats on the bus to shop assistants etc, many older reasonably healthy older peoples lives will be far worse because of lockdown.

just another sad statistic who doesn't matter...

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 03/06/2020 19:13

@DomDoesWotHeWants I am one of those who would like hairdressers open for my own mental health thanks not because I am vain. Having my hair done is part of my self esteem, but I also care about my kids. I want normality back for them

Courgetteandbeans · 03/06/2020 19:16

Nevermind Sweden... www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/world-europe-52903717

Inappropriatefemale · 03/06/2020 19:19

OP yours is the best thread I’ve ever seen on MN re: CV19.

I also think of if Sweden and think why do we need to go this far? I’m really really pissed off, my depression is worse and I just want to scream and punch anyone that I walk past in Tesco who gives me a dirty look because I walked up the aisle wrongly, a guy shouted at me in Tesco for it too and I ended up bursting into tears and dumping my basket and walking out, he would never have spoken to a man like that.

Schools are open yet when I go back to college in September (Scotland) then it won’t be the full class, what sort of crap is that?! Pubs are allowing folks to sit outside yet I can’t get back into my course properly, it makes zero sense.

I have severe dental pain and I called the dentist yesterday, she phoned me back and told me to get temporary fillings and that as it’s illegal for her to use the drill on my teeth then I can’t be seen, I’ll probs lose all my fucking teeth before this crap is over, I’m taking more than the recommended amount of painkillers daily, I’m not eating properly because it hurts my teeth and I’ve lost weight due to this and I am sleeping all day at any time, people are going on like breaking the rules is akin to murder ffs.

I know that I haven’t been near anyone’s I live alone and yet the dentist still wouldn’t see me yet when she called she fired all the questions at me about corona, did I have symptoms etc etc, if I did then what could she do about it?! I don’t get why dentists can’t see some folks that don’t need a deep clean (due to the drill making saliva pop out of your mouth) and just wear a mask, you can go to pub and buy a drink yet you can’t get your fucking teeth seen too?! Makes no sense yet again.

Sorry for the rant but I am very very unhappy and I am sick of all the hysterics and curtain twitchers, “should I call the police on my neighbour for having a friend over”, they are probably the types that grass anyone and everyone to the council, police, social work dept, benefit frauds anyway, do gooders is what they are, I bet they love any excuse to get folks into bother.

Shallwedancetomojito · 03/06/2020 19:20

And ive not once heard from the BBC any kind of outrage about the total lack of social distancing and face masks at the Black lives matters protest today.
