It’s not a phrase I use, but I always thought all lives mattered was in reference to all ethnic minority groups rather than black and white. Glad I came across this thread now, I honestly didn’t realise it was being used in that way

@strugglingwithdeciding this is not just about one man. This is a turning point, a trauma response and it is not your place to label disgust and outrage as opportunistic violence.

strugglingwithdeciding you should watch the video, it's important that people watch it. It is upsetting to watch; it's incredibly upsetting to see someone begging for their life, imagine what it would be like to watch when that person looks like you.

And you should get angry when you see the smug look on the cop's face as he just stays there thinking he can get away with whatever he wants.

I actually don't think that you can judge how people are reacting if you haven't watched it.

I'm also raging at the idiots tweeting "why no riots over...." then listing Black men killed by Black men or Police killed by black men as if this proves something profoundly flawed or dishonest with the movement/statement/protests/protesters

I agree with protesting and people being angry but setting fires could just lead to another innocent person getting hurt is my worry .

Why the fuxk did her father feel the need to tell an 8 year old about the time he got tased .Protect them from that for as long as possible. Teach them to polite to police and all that jazz - heartbreaking that Americans have to do this, sensible in today's climate
I am not black but I think a lot.of black families don't have the luxury of keeping their children 'innocent' for very long as that innocence could get them killed . I think that point of view may well be a prime example of white privilege in that you value a child's innocence so highly because you haven't had to weigh up the price for that innocence ( ie their lives).

There may well be an agenda in that video but it is an agenda of trying to keep black children alive by preparing them for the world.they have to live in and also by educating us in the hope.that things might change . Both of those things are probably judged more important than upsetting a child.

Though having said that you may now come on and tell me you are black. If you are I apologise in advance and am happy to be told different

There are two things at play here

1. genuine protestors and rightfully so
2. protests being hijacked by anarchists and left activists deliberately causing looting and violence for their own agenda. Perfect way for the left to make Trump look bad ( putting aside your own thoughts on trump it is perfect way to make any President look bad) and also for those anarchists against society and way of life in general

There are reports of pallets of bricks appearing in streets for no reason for them to be there. It would take a few well chosen activists/anarchists instructed to start throwing them.

umm I'm no not saying racism is ok its disgusting. I'm not saying the dad getting tasered was ok. I am saying why was there a need to tell a 8 year old child that when they knew shed get upset? Are children not protected from horrible stuff for as long as possible any more? Are we not expected to explain things in an age appropriate way. The potential results of that are significant for a child. I imagine the fear of what if her daddy gets tasered and hurt again? Possibly nightmares too. The child doesnt need to be worrying every time daddy goes to tbe shop what If he gets tasered. I'm not saying it's wrong for parents to try and protect their kids by having to do this, and I can't imagine how horrible and heartbreaking it must feel to have to do that. Raising awareness of that is important. But planting those seeds in s childs mind will do little more than scare them . I knew if mh dad had told me hed been tasered for doing nothing wrong as a child, I would have been scared too. What exactly did he think would happen when he told her that, that shed smile or be sad for a few minutes and carry on? I really dont see tbe need for that upsetting story to a child clearly not yet old enough to hear it.

Of course all lives matter, it’s stating the obvious. But given that there is no dispute that white lives matter I don’t see the need to point out that they also matter all the time. Black lives on the other hand don’t seem to matter to a lot of people, there is a reason why it needs to be pointed out that black lives matter, constantly, especially where American cops are involved. Saying all lives matter in response to black lives matter is like saying the sky is generally blue to someone that mentions it’s grey. It’s true but also completely irrelevant to the conversation.

@Madein1995 presumably they told her that to teach her a lesson. If people that looked like my children were subjected to random police brutality on a regular basis I would also be teaching them to be frightened in the same way that I have taught them fear of fire or spiders to protect them.
