Now illegal to have sex with partner you don't live with?

Sueannnnna · 01/06/2020 11:46

Lots of newspapers/online articles announcing this today.
Being in a private place with partner and having sex can lead to a £100 fine if i've read correctly.

The world is going cuckoo.
But who cares about seeing my boyfriend, at least I can go shopping in Primark and go sit on a packed train (sarcasm)

“ The government is introducing new lockdown measures in England that prevent people from socialising (or gathering) with one person from outside of their household in a private space.

Up until now the person visiting a house for sex would have been the one in breach of the measures.

But now both people would technically be able to be prosecuted under the law, with Amendment Regulations being introduced in Parliament on Monday.

The new legislation explicitly bans being inside the house in a gathering of more than one person without a reasonable excuse.

Adam Wagner, a human rights barrister at Doughty Street, said that the police will no longer have powers to challenge the public carrying out activities outside of the home.

He wrote: “To be clear - from tomorrow - the police can no longer get involved with why you are outside of the place you are living.

“No more power to direct people back home. No more power to fine for leaving / being outside of home without reasonable excuse.”

Quite high risk of transmission I think this is reasonable. I think you need to put stopping a pandemic ahead of your own sexual gratification for a short while. Neil Ferguson would, on reflection, agree with me.

Love51 · 01/06/2020 11:58

Apparently Holland told single (which in this context is not cohabiting) people who might want sex to basically pick someone for the duration and stick with that person. State sanctioned monogamy. Your mum probably told you that shagging around spreads diseases, and probably didn't mean this!
You've not been able to shag anyone you don't live with for the duration of lockdown. Unless you can do tantric sex with a 2 metre separation. (I'm not really sure how tantric sex works, but it might be worth finding out for those living apart from their lovers!)

TerrapinStation · 01/06/2020 11:59

@TulipsTwoLips

Unless you are an MP with a married lover. That seems to be very trendy these days.
Which MP was that?

Do you have a link to a reliable source to confirm that?

Surely it is impossible to have sex with a partner you don't live with and maintain social distancing anyway

Quite. I've yet to meet a man with a dick that's 2m long

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 01/06/2020 11:59

Err..... sorry to be one of those that points out the bleedin' obvious, but hasn't that always been the case since lockdown?
People who don't live together haven't been able to meet up.
So how the heck have they supposed to be doing the deed lol?!
Confused

BlackberryCane · 01/06/2020 11:59

You could have sex on your garden under the new regs. With up to 5 other people. Suspect that might break other laws in most cases, but not the coronavirus regs. The 2 metre stuff isn't actually law.

picklemewalnuts · 01/06/2020 11:59

OP, it does carry a risk of spreading the virus. Would you say that's murderous?

Many people live alone and don't have a partner to have sex with. They get by. The only people to benefit from having sex are those involved.
Other contacts (work, school etc) benefit more people, to justify the risk.

Most people who disagree with the non-co-habiting partners seem to live with their partner so don't know how hard this is

@StewPots go to your boyfriend. Seriously, and fuck anyone who says you shouldn’t.

Sueannnnna · 01/06/2020 12:02

Science isn't fully backing up the 2m rule anyway. Some say it makes not difference.

Sparklingbrook · 01/06/2020 12:03

How is anyone going to know though, really?

Monkeynuts18 · 01/06/2020 12:04

@TerrapinStation

I expect that poster is referring to Professor Ferguson and mistakenly thinks he is/was an MP or a member of government, which of course he isn’t and wasn’t.

WakeAndBake · 01/06/2020 12:04

And how the hell are they going to police this?

Maybe all those alexas, echos ands nests etc could help with that? If everyone had one then speech recognition software could monitor who was in the house and if there was any non-permitted forms of socializing going on.

Sueannnnna · 01/06/2020 12:05

I more started this thread for how ridiculous the country is becoming,
Not as anything serious.

But sure, go back to school, go on the packed train, get a takeaway cooked by someone, but heavin forbid you see your loved ones.

And yes, seeing loved ones is essential to many people.

Does Alexa know when you have sex? ShockBlush

It's tricky to do it with no physical contact too, regardless of penis size.
Sueannnnna · 01/06/2020 12:05

@WakeAndBake don't give the government ideas Grin

It’s hilarious that they’ve only just cottoned on to this. Yes, it been implicitly illegal from the beginning. Who cares?

It is now illegal from today to have someone from another household in your home, sex or no sex. They will be relying on neighbours to report this I assume.
