To be confused as to why nobody else's teeth cringe?

A bit of a lighthearted post, I didn't really know where to put this but for as long as I've known certain textures have made me feel phenomenally uncomfortable and I can only describe as my teeth cringing. These include, toilet paper, wet cardboard, the stuff in nappies and sanitary towels cotton wool. I've talked about this to my partner, parents and a few friends and none have an idea what I'm on about. Someone please tell me they know what I'm on about before because I can't be the only person? I get this with velvet and fabric car seats, urgh if I imagine biting the fabric car seat my teeth feel weak and a bit sick

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 31/05/2020 04:20

All of these. And a random one - fingers sliding on guitar strings. I don’t know if they’ve changed it but the theme tune to Gardener’s World was played on a guitar and you could hear a finger or two sliding up a string. Aaaaarrrrgggthh!!

My dd(2) loves ripping those circular cotton wool pads in half, and theres just something about it that sends shivers through my bones. I get a similar feeling if I imagine biting them or using my teeth to pull them apart.... dont know why but when I see her do it, it's like I can feel it in my teeth?

Namechangeapril20 · 31/05/2020 05:23

For me it's the thought of chewing on a jumper sleeve

Ah yes, this! Me too!!

lidoshuffle · 31/05/2020 07:54

Some of these descriptions capture the 'ughh' brilliantly. I especially love "offensively squeaky on an atomic level; like Satan’s accordion..." and "make my clitoris flutter! Not in a remotely sexual way"!

BlackCatJourney · 31/05/2020 07:59

Thing that does it for me is if im wearing just socks on my feet and have to walk on a wooden floor, teeth cringing even as I type.
Bare foot is fine🤪

WatchingFromTheWings · 31/05/2020 08:13

Metal touching my teeth, chalk boards, wet cotton wool, all set my teeth off!

SoberCurious · 31/05/2020 08:36

"Sets my teeth on edge"
Is what I say OP.
Outside broom brushing up a patio/path.....ughghghhhrgggggh!!!!😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬

SoberCurious · 31/05/2020 08:37

Oh and biting furry peach skin 😬🍑

Theparkingtroll · 31/05/2020 08:38

Have had to stop reading as my teeth were cringing too much! Yes to almost all of the things mentioned.

MerryDeath · 31/05/2020 08:45

DH says it will make his teeth curl up Grin

motherheroic · 31/05/2020 09:11

Happens to me when I see soggy paper or tissues outside on the pavement. Disgusting.

motherheroic · 31/05/2020 09:12

Also when people wear washing up gloves to wash up. The squeaking is unbearable. I can hear it now just typing about it.

MsF1t · 31/05/2020 09:29

Same! And towels do this to me too, if they touch my teeth (even if I think about it).

Dinosauraddict · 31/05/2020 09:38

Talcum powder and the texture of fingers when they're wet and wrinkly 🤢

Cailleach · 31/05/2020 09:42

I'm autistic. This is how I react to more or less everything. It's very stressful.

Birdshitbridgegotme · 31/05/2020 09:44

I'm with you with the cotton wool.

bookish83 · 31/05/2020 09:46

My teeth cringe at cotton wool, biting lolly sticks or metal cutlery, and wet wool, then when the wool has dried I can't even wear it!

Shuddering just thinking about it

YeahWhatevver · 31/05/2020 09:49

MikeEhrmantraut · 31/05/2020 09:51

Yes! For me it's sugar paper and cardboard. It's like a jolt up my finger tips into my head. Yuck

MitziK · 31/05/2020 10:02

Paper straws. Ugh.

Polystyrene cups and packaging.

The freezer drawer.

Nylon school jumpers.

Potatobug · 31/05/2020 10:04

A felt tip pen pushed too hard on paper and giving THAT sound. Urrgh..

MrsRogerLima · 31/05/2020 10:04

I say 'that makes my bum tingle' only at home mind. I realise it's odd.

Polestyrene does it
Tin foil
Biting wool
Any kind of bone protruding injury ( like you might see on a hospital programme)

MintyMabel · 31/05/2020 10:41

Thing is, the chalkboard and cutlery on plates is different. Those are noises. The thing with cotton wool and cornflour is a feeling that hits the teeth.

redwoodmazza · 31/05/2020 10:43

Fuzzy Felt when I was little!
And emery boards - arghhhhh!
