To be confused as to why nobody else's teeth cringe?

A bit of a lighthearted post, I didn't really know where to put this but for as long as I've known certain textures have made me feel phenomenally uncomfortable and I can only describe as my teeth cringing. These include, toilet paper, wet cardboard, the stuff in nappies and sanitary towels cotton wool. I've talked about this to my partner, parents and a few friends and none have an idea what I'm on about. Someone please tell me they know what I'm on about before because I can't be the only person? Grin

Teeth cringe is exactly how I would describe all those feelings!

PerfidiousAlbion · 30/05/2020 22:08

Me too;

  • cotton wool
  • yoghurt pots - specifically, the rim
  • the texture of beetroot
iMatter · 30/05/2020 22:12

I'd love to know what's "wrong" with all of us!

I'm still pulling my lips over my teeth at the thought of all these wooden things 😬

12stepCAKE · 30/05/2020 22:12

Yes when I hear teeth grinding it's like I can feel it in my teeth. And in my spine

Inaquandry19 · 30/05/2020 22:13

Polystyrene gives me the heebie jeebies.

Potatochipz · 30/05/2020 22:15

An awful one for me is accidentally going to write without the nib popped out of a push pen. Argh the feel if it on the paper! Similar to a broken pencil 😫

Hysteriawhenyourenear · 30/05/2020 22:15

Ice lolly sticks. They make my tongue curl, cant stand them!

dementedma · 30/05/2020 22:16

My mother is like that with velvet.

Chochito · 30/05/2020 22:24

Reading this to DP just now and he is totally mystified!

Like OP, I thought everyone's teeth cringed at certain things.

slashlover · 30/05/2020 22:26

Velvet too, buying clothes at Christmas can be a nightmare as it seems to be everywhere then.

Eating something and getting a little it bit of the foil in your mouth.

Snookerloopy · 30/05/2020 22:31

YY to wet cuffs or sleeves... that top has to come off right away.. can’t bear the ‘clinging’ wet fabric touching me!
Yes to crunchy velvet as well.
I’m twiddling my toes together at some of the posts and sucking my teeth!!
Is this just a human thing? And why do we feel like this... and it’s the same things cropping up??🤷‍♀️
Regrettably I don’t get the ‘tingly’ vagina feeling...☹️

Snookerloopy · 30/05/2020 22:35

Just thought of a couple more...
Any fresh fruit I’m my mouth (peaches, kiwi) that have a fur or fuzzy skin on them🤮 Also runner beans for the same reason.... and broccoli is the devils testicles, all bumpy and lumpy...noooooo!!

Snookerloopy · 30/05/2020 22:37

**in my mouth

TheoneandObi · 30/05/2020 22:38

Rough wooden pegs on towels. Urgh.
Also scraping of cutlery and loud chewing.

backseatcookers · 30/05/2020 22:42

When people in tv / films brush their teeth and the toothbrush sounds totally dry. I just got teeth cringe and full body shudder thinking about it. Can't ever explain it to anyone - does anyone else get what I mean?!

SlothRunner · 30/05/2020 22:49

Wooden spoons, ice lolly sticks 🤮

Also if I have a boiled sweet type lolly on a paper stick I can’t bear it as it goes all gross and wet

Dotty1970 · 30/05/2020 22:52

Arhhhh I'm cringing now, cotton wool, I remember squishing it with my teeth once, omg omg.🥵
Wool jumpers 😬

I'm never eating broccoli again 😂😂😂😂

From Google
Sidonglobophobiais the fear of cotton balls. It is also called Bambakophobia where Bambaki stands for cotton in Greek while phobos means deep dread or fear. 'Normal' people might laugh at those who are afraid of cotton balls. However for aSidonglobophobicindividual, this phobia can actually ruin one's life.

aSidonglobophobicindividual

MrsSnitchnose · 30/05/2020 23:26

Balloons, polystyrene and certain types of wool

MrsSnitchnose · 30/05/2020 23:27

Oh and when my boss is scraping labels of glass bottles with a knife totally outing if anyone I know is on here!

MrsSnitchnose · 30/05/2020 23:28

*off

BreconBeBuggered · 30/05/2020 23:28

I had to scroll very quickly past your post, OP, because I know exactly what you mean and these things don't bear thinking about.

Tolleshunt · 30/05/2020 23:29

Rough, unsanded wood. Bleurgh!! I could fry at the thought of it, but my teeth are itching too.
