A bit of a lighthearted post, I didn't really know where to put this but for as long as I've known certain textures have made me feel phenomenally uncomfortable and I can only describe as my teeth cringing. These include, toilet paper, wet cardboard, the stuff in nappies and sanitary towels cotton wool. I've talked about this to my partner, parents and a few friends and none have an idea what I'm on about. Someone please tell me they know what I'm on about before because I can't be the only person? Grin

Polystyrene 100%

HappyGoLuckyHippo · 30/05/2020 20:30

Ice lolly sticks. They're so horribly dry.

And recently I literally ran out with my hands clamped over my ears while my husband was cutting a large cardboard box with a kitchen knife (to make a playhouse). It made the odd squeaky noise. I felt the "teeth thing" and swear my heart was pounding. It was horrible!

drspouse · 30/05/2020 20:31

@seriously yep, fingernails here too. Mainly wet shoelaces for me though also chalk.

peajotter · 30/05/2020 20:32

A peach colour does that to me. Like fingernails running down a blackboard but in your jaw too.

LoseLooseLucy · 30/05/2020 20:33

The thought of biting scrunched up cling film does it for me 😬

UnicornRainbow83 · 30/05/2020 20:34

@81Byerley I can't bare to touch unglazed terracotta pots, I've never known anyone to say the same!

Holothane · 30/05/2020 20:37

Unglazed pots no your not alone.

Samtsirch · 30/05/2020 20:40

Yes to the sanitary towel wadding, also balloons ( the texture) and bizarrely coconut shells ( the fibrous bits on them) .
They make my teeth fizz and feel fuzzy and I get a strange crampy feeling in my arms and fingers like I need to move them about 😂

Member740334 · 30/05/2020 20:42

Wire wool. Urggghhh!

CherrySpritz · 30/05/2020 20:42

I had a dress when I was little made of a new fabric called Tricel. It was like a synthetic silky stuff. I had to walk around without touching myself as I couldn’t bear the feel of it.

Wotrewelookinat · 30/05/2020 20:42

Yes, cotton wool. And the crunch of walking on fresh snow. Yuk!

Goinglive · 30/05/2020 20:45

Dry sponges for me. Nyargh

JustAPassingFashion · 30/05/2020 20:47

Wood! Wooden spoons, wooden coffee stirrers and those bloody horrible wooden fork things from the chip shop. I know exactly what you mean Confused

MintyMabel · 30/05/2020 20:48

Cotton wool. Dry corn four or custard powder. Undercooked green beans. All make my teeth squeak.

Samtsirch · 30/05/2020 20:49

«I had to walk around without touching myself «
😂 sorry I know it’s childish but that made me laugh 😆

tartanbow · 30/05/2020 20:50

wet denim and forks scraping on plates!

Butterbeaninjeans · 30/05/2020 20:52

Microfibre cloths and folk biting woolly gloves to pull them off 🤢🤢

lidoshuffle · 30/05/2020 20:52

Ughh, Brillo pads. The combination of tearing the steel wool and the creaking of the powdered soap coming out...

TwistyHair · 30/05/2020 20:53

I can’t use beer mats for that reason. Wet cardboard. And I hate cotton wool. And sucking on woollen sleeves. Lollypop sticks. Gives me goose pimples and a chill all over.

Snookerloopy · 30/05/2020 20:55

@iMatter
Ooh! thank goodness, another one for wooden spoon hate!! I have to fold my lips over my teeth for wooden spoons, lolly sticks, toothpicks etc 😱😱 cannot bear them!!
Cotton wool... ugh.... crunchy noises and crunchy feels!
Forks getting entwined
Metal screeching together
Unglazed plates or crockery
Cutlery scraping on plates
People crunching apples ( or the bloody Magnum advert where the woman bites into the lolly...aargh )
Hearing people eating... stop it!!!
Loudly stirring tea and tapping the spoon on the edge of the mug

Loving all your descriptions of what happens... weak arms, dizzy, feeling ‘fizzy’ yes!!! I feel your pain.
Wonder why we feel like this??

iMatter · 30/05/2020 21:05

@snookerloopy I'm rubbing the back of my teeth with my tongue and pulling my lips over my teeth at the thought of that magnum advert! I'd completely forgotten about it! The combination of wood and freezing ice cream makes it worse! And those wooden spoon things in ice cream pots. Aaaargh!

DappledThings · 30/05/2020 21:06

Balloons. I can't bear the sound of anyone touching a balloon.

CherrySpritz · 30/05/2020 21:07

Samtsirch. I must have looked really funny as I used to hold my arms away from my sides in case I inadvertently touched the fabric. 😂

PearlclutchersInc · 30/05/2020 21:10

Oh, I recognise that feeling! Its usually wool that does it for me.

missmouse101 · 30/05/2020 21:13

Foam packaging. No! Aaarrgh.
