To want straight legs at the top without the curvy bit?

cultkid · 30/05/2020 07:04

I am small I will start by saying I'm ;
5ft 1 and weigh 48-49 kg at the moment.
I know the legs with the curve at the thigh are appealing to lots of women.
I haven't exercised for years because I've had a very bad back. I've enjoyed Pilates on a reformer and also I do walk but my legs are not toned at all. My tummy is flat but legs are just really underwhelming
I have zero stamina. How do I make my legs tone up? I am actually really not clued in on this. Is there anything I can do in particular to bring the tops in so my legs are deeper instead of wider?
I don't want to run I haven't got the child care at the minute to make that happen.

Aibu to want deep set legs more sporty looking is it genetics?

Flabby legs usually mean that while you think you are using them effectively you really aren’t. Walking a lot isn’t effective for legs / pelvic floor etc if you aren’t engaging your core while doing it, or not walking briskly. You also need to brisk walk on an incline not a flat to help build tone.

GrumpyHoonMain · 30/05/2020 10:18

Def don’t use weights with back problems.

Lifting weights is the best thing if you have back problems as it builds muscle and strength but you do need professional advice

TatianaBis · 30/05/2020 10:19

I find any type of walking helps tone my legs. But it’s true that more challenging walking is more effective and works faster.

It may also be linked to diet. People with choc/junk habits tend to store the resultant fat somewhere.

Lunges are great for saddle bags. I used to incorporate them into my day- eg when I went to the toilet ( which was downstairs ) I would lunge there and back . How we feel about our own bodies is a very personal thing and no one should belittle how you feel about yours or about things you want to change. I also skin brushed for few mins every day and used Nivea firming lotion which also improved the overall appearance of my legs too

Building up muscle strength is vital for backs but doing it with weights is a bad idea as it can cause further injury. Physios generally use resistance bands.

Horehound · 30/05/2020 10:25

If were you I would start up running. That tones up everything, is one of the best ways to lose weight and won't hurt your back

Eckhart · 30/05/2020 10:27

It's just an accumulation of fat, OP. You can't spot-reduce fat, and whatever tone your muscles are at won't make a blind of difference while they're still hidden. You need to reduce overall body fat. So, CV (pick something you can do that'll keep your heart rate up for a long time, like medium brisk walking, and get out for an hour at a time) If you want 'tone', that's basically 'muscles you can see clearly', which for a lot of people, is actually 'bigger muscles'. Bigger muscles don't have to be like melons. So, I'd lunge from room to room rather than walking, for a while, to make the toning fit easily into your schedule. Bigger muscles will mean higher metabolism too, so while you're growing them and once they're bigger, you'll burn fat faster.

QueenOfToast · 30/05/2020 10:30

Sorry I haven't read the full thread, but the best types of exercises for long, lean muscles are Pilates and barre. While we're still in lockdown I would recommend Xtend Barre London for your barre classes and Pilates Anytime for all your Pilates needs.

Qgardens · 30/05/2020 10:35

Google 7 minute workouts on you tube. There are some great leg ones with Lucy whatshername, as well as general ones.

CaraDune · 30/05/2020 10:52

You have a BMI of about 20, as a PP said, lower end of normal. The bit you're pointing to is in fact your quadriceps muscle - it's meant to be that shape. As for the "saddle bags" (a) they're tiny and (b) that's probably just genetically where you're more prone to carry what tiny amount of body fat you have (and at a BMI of 20, it will be a tiny amount). NB, a natural tendency towards carrying weight there is much healthier long term than an apple type - it's spherical blobs like me who have the high incidences of type 2 diabetes and the like (eyes gall bladder surgery scars...).

I mean this kindly, OP, but I think the problem is in your head - and you must try to sort your head out, because this sort of obsession about a perfectly normal body part, when you are actually on the thin side of normal, could be the start of some sort of eating disorder/body dysmorphia.

By all means exercise for the sake of your fitness - this is a good thing. Just walking is excellent - weight bearing, improves mobility, doesn't knacker your joints. You don't mention what your back problems are - have you seen a physio, and do you have any sort of remedial exercises to help with the back problems? This might improve things to the point where you can do some gentle running.

HepzibahGreen · 30/05/2020 10:55

Your legs are lovely, you look like a healthy woman.
Now go and read a book, take your mind off it.

Branster · 30/05/2020 11:02

OP you are sooo cute, love your post on this.
Sorry no idea what to suggest but had to comment loving this thread and the practical comments as well. I wouldn’t have a clue if any of the advice works or it is appropriate.
If I may throw my own two pence worth, I think massage might be what you could try. Look for some books or you tube stuff so you can do it yourself. I am convinced it helps with the overall toning.
Anyway, where’s Willy??????

PhoneLock · 30/05/2020 11:02

I hope you realise that your body looks perfect

Isn't that rather subjective?

But don't do it just for looks

Why not?

EnglishRose1320 · 30/05/2020 11:12

The only thing I've got from this thread is clearly Penis shape is even more varied than I thought. I have never seen a Penis look like those legs.

wonkytonkwoman · 30/05/2020 11:15

@cultkid I thought you meant your breasts look like willy's and it gave me my first laugh of the day Grin

Your legs are fine btw.

shitthissucks · 30/05/2020 11:18

I honestly can’t work out what you mean!

mencken · 30/05/2020 11:19

you can't change leg shape. you can reduce fat and tone up muscle. You cannot change leg shape or length.

do not aspire to the hideous sights you see staggering on the modelling catwalks. They are half-dead from starvation.

put down the magazines (their job is to make you feel bad about yourself), eat properly, exercise and be grateful that those legs work.

You have good 🦵. I haven't seen any willies that look remotely like your legs. Thanks for making m laugh 😂

Idontknow23 · 30/05/2020 11:31

Ah yes I'm the same and same height and weight! I think it's the gluyes, saddle bags, points, they literally just spread at the side of my legs just under my bum I hate them

Idontknow23 · 30/05/2020 11:31

*glutes

highmarkingsnowbile · 30/05/2020 11:32

There's nothing wrong with your legs and you don't have 'saddlebags'. You're short. By all means exercise more but don't expect to change much (until you get to menopause and then believe me, you'll really have something to complain about!). Thigh gaps and stick legs aren't the norm in adult females, they are normal but not the norm.

TamingToddler · 30/05/2020 11:38

They're called "hipdips" there's absolutely loads going round the internet about them at the moment! I think most women have them!

Teesstar · 30/05/2020 11:43

Come on your legs are fine! They work! They get you about and you are healthy!
Please don’t fall into the media trap of thinking you need to be a certain shape,
Be you, love you!

ragged · 30/05/2020 11:44

To get more stamina you need to go out & do lots of exercise (I find).
I gather that exercise leads to the 'toned' look too.
