To want straight legs at the top without the curvy bit?

cultkid · 30/05/2020 07:04

I am small I will start by saying I'm ;
5ft 1 and weigh 48-49 kg at the moment.
I know the legs with the curve at the thigh are appealing to lots of women.
I haven't exercised for years because I've had a very bad back. I've enjoyed Pilates on a reformer and also I do walk but my legs are not toned at all. My tummy is flat but legs are just really underwhelming
I have zero stamina. How do I make my legs tone up? I am actually really not clued in on this. Is there anything I can do in particular to bring the tops in so my legs are deeper instead of wider?
I don't want to run I haven't got the child care at the minute to make that happen.

Aibu to want deep set legs more sporty looking is it genetics?

Willy legs Grin
Have you got excess skin round your ankles 😂

CodenameVillanelle · 30/05/2020 08:43

They don't look like willies Grin they look like very nice legs. You aren't likely to lose much fat off them unless you got really lean which wouldn't be sensible but you can increase the muscle tone with targeted exercises. Don't expect magic transformations though. Much better to learn to love and accept your legs and treat them nicely.

MistressGammon · 30/05/2020 08:43

OP we need to see these willy legs! Grin

I’ve got muscly legs from years of hard running and cycling. I’d also say weighted squats and and lunges are your friend, they’ll change the shape of your whole bottom half if you stick at it.

These bits in the circles
Fully aware I've now added balls onto my dicks

Get yourself a resistance band set with a little leaflet in it on how to use them and follow that religiously.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 30/05/2020 08:45

There is no way I would be taking up kettlebell or anything weighted with a bad back, unless recommended by a physio, or supervised by one.

justkeepmovingon · 30/05/2020 08:45

Love this thread! So weights and weightlifting is your friend, squats, deadlifts and lunges single leg work.

Side effect would be that you actually tone up all over! Because compound weights need to use the whole body to make the movements so you'll end up with strong toned legs and back, stomach, arms etc.

Colom · 30/05/2020 08:46

Saddlebags are surely what you mean?

Apparently they're notoriously difficult to get rid of. Mine only developed after my second pregnancy, before then my legs had depth not width Grin

It's really annoying but in fairness I've not exactly tried very hard. I intend on ramping up the exercise...soon...!

shall report back if they magically dissolve

diddl · 30/05/2020 08:46

I know why they annoy-I have the same, but can't help thinking that your legs would look an odd shape without them.

You would look wider hipped?

vikingwife · 30/05/2020 08:47

I think you’d be better off consulting a weight training / gym forum than here tbh

Colom · 30/05/2020 08:48

I would like to start weights but I'm overwhelmed by where to start/what I need to buy. Anyone have any resources/advice for a complete novice?

It would have to be from home. My DH works away during the week, two preschoolers at home so going to the gym is not an option even pre-corona.

walkingchuckydoll · 30/05/2020 08:49

Do you like spinning? One of my formrr colleagues got pretty neat legs after she took up daily spinning lessons.

ElephantsAlltheWayDown · 30/05/2020 08:50

I think you have really lovely legs, actually.

Wanderer1 · 30/05/2020 08:50

I find the Sweat app for the Kyla Itsines workout really toned legs quickly and it's a short workout you can do at home with good progression

Karmatime · 30/05/2020 08:51

Running and squats have made my legs a nicer shape, they are not really thinner but I’ve developed some quad and hamstring definition that make them look more shapely, especially in skinny jeans. They are by no means perfect, I’m nearly 55 and gave up on perfection a long time ago! I guess what I’ve done is lost a little fat from the running and gained a little muscle from the squats. I only do a 20 minute run and say 30 squats most days.

borntobequiet · 30/05/2020 08:55

Your legs are OK. Do ballet as suggested upthread.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 30/05/2020 08:57

I think that only way to get rid of what you circled and make it actually straight is... Photoshop.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 30/05/2020 08:57

But you can tone up.

Elmo311 · 30/05/2020 08:58

@cultkid I think your legs are lovely! They could be worse, like mine! Xxx

EmeraldShamrock · 30/05/2020 09:01

Toning thousands of squats lunges or a more extreme but workable method liposuction definitely the way you'll remove the shape.

Namaste6 · 30/05/2020 09:03

I think you're possibly trying to explain that your legs lack muscular definition, and they feel heavy? To reduce any fat that may be there - walk, walk, walk. For toning I would stick with the reformer (heavy bands) and plenty leg extensions (on back / feet in hand straps / heels together - controlled extensions).

Also consider that you may suffer a little from poor lymphatic drainage. Gentle skin brushing (upward strokes) will help this as will drinking plenty water daily.

Hope that helps OP. 🙏

RingaRosie · 30/05/2020 09:06

Legs change. I had great ones when I was younger (up to 35!). Mini skirts & flirty dresses were my friend. I had a finely turned ankle, as they say.
Now my legs are much thicker. My bum’s bigger too. While I can still fill a pair of jeans nicely, not to the same effect! Work with what you have, I say.

testing987654321 · 30/05/2020 09:07

I hope you realise that your body looks perfect. If you don't feel fit enough or strong enough then do some of the exercises people are suggesting, but don't do it just for looks.

Quarantimespringclean · 30/05/2020 09:07

Many years ago the gym I went to had a very charismatic and effective personal trainer on the staff and a lot of us signed up with him. I had a friend who was absolutely tiny on top (a size 6-8 25 years ago, so probably closer to a size 2 or 4 now) but carried a lot of fat around her hips making her more like a size 12-14. It was a much more extreme version of your (very attractive) body shape. She was completely transformed by his advice to the point I stood behind her in a queue once and didn’t recognise her because her very distinctive hip shape had completely altered. The main thing he recommended for her was walking backwards on a treadmill set at a very steep incline. She did this several times a week for an hour at a time and her ‘saddle bags’ melted away.

Obviously that wasn’t all she did. There was regular aerobics, Pilates, weights and food rules etc too, but she was the only person with that particular body issue and the only person he gave that advice to. It worked wonderfully, but once she stopped the (pretty demanding) programme the saddle bags gradually returned.

Igtg · 30/05/2020 09:08

That’s not what I thought you meant at all. Your legs look fine. That’s just your outer thigh/saddlebags.
