To avoid T or T by turning my phone off when out

Pissed off with hypocrisy of government.

I’m playing by the rules and still properly social distancing so there’s no way I’m self isolating for 2 weeks if they call me.

Can turning phones off when out avoid being radarred?

What about the practicalities of this? So I go out and someone I've been in close quarters with goes down with the virus, I've got to have a fortnight off work and isolate. Assume furlough will be long gone by the time we are out and about fully, and I only earn money when I actually work. Then a couple of weeks later I come in contact with someone else who has it...here we go again I've got another two weeks locked in the house. Can you imagine this working?

What about people who work for small businesses, is their boss going to keep their job open?

Surely a better idea would be for those people who've been contacted to just get tested themselves?

In fact, I've just thought that if anyone gets contacted being told to isolate, what's stopping them phoning nhs 111 and saying "I've got symptoms" and then get sent for a test to determine one way or the other?

Matt Hancock said today that we’d be fined if we didn’t isolate for 2 weeks when told to

NB - Unless you were:

  • Testing your eyesight
  • Following your instincts
  • Being a good parent
  • Acting with integrity
  • In the woods that your father owns
  • Popping back to work after visiting your sick wife
  • Supervising your child having a wee
  • Staying in a house that isn't very nice, it's just concrete blocks
  • Travelling with Covid to a smaller area with fewer facilities

All of the above are ok.

I find it interesting because people have posted previously about how well other countries have implemented track and trace and have been able to ease lockdown, but the difference seems to be that the people are a lot more willing to do it (or in the case of China, for example, have no other choice). But in Britain we have this dichotomy between people wanting lockdown to ease but this reticence to let 'the government' know anything about their lives (despite the fact that you are tracked in a zillion other ways every day anyway).

Yes, I saw the TalkTalk connection, she didn’t know if the data had been encrypted that had been hacked

They covered this in the briefing. They said you still have to stay isolated for 14 days as it could take that long for the virus to show up on a test....

What about people you live with - do they have to self isolate too?

Gaah if you wont comply with track and trace measures will you agree to stay home then? How the hell else are we going to get through this?? Or do we just expect the shielding to politely bow out for the foreseeable?!?!?

It is so so selfish. I won't stop seeing family members because my neighbours didn't. I won't wear a mask because they are hot and stuffy. I won't stop going to the beach 50 miles away because I deserve to go to the beach. I won't abide by track and trace because I don't trust anyone with my personal data aside from every fucking multinational corporation I've given my personal data to. Oh but I demand my right to an unimpeded education because won't somebody think of the children and why aren't we more like Denmark Angry

This will never fucking work unless we all do our bit.

Has the link to Cummings' family actually been proven? It was on Twitter but no one actually provided any proof, other than someone sharing the same last name, which isn't exactly a slam dunk given Cummings isn't an uncommon name.

Are the people posting this as fact just more up to date than me? Could you show me the evidence as I'd like to know!

I don't think everyone is saying all that Gales

I will comply with T & T completely. I rarely leave my house anyway at the moment.

However, I do not trust DC with my personal data. Would rather trust it to Apple/Google who actually know how to develop apps.

Looking forwards, when we are all mixing with lots of people again I can see how some people, particularly people like self employed hairdressers, will end up being isolated more than they are at work Sad

I heard the Cummings related to the app is a coincidence.

Just thinking, I don't answer mobile calls from unknown numbers as I assume they'll be a cold caller. I think a lot of people might do the same?

Hasn't it now been proved to be less infectious and less deadly than the regular flu?
Didn't we lose more people in the 2018 flu season than we have from covid19?

You’re pissed off with the Government. So to teach them a lesson you’re going to put yourself and potentially many others at risk?

Doesn’t sound too bright, does it?

I work in education. I will be isolated a lot regardless, as soon as I come into contact with my students I will get their coughs and cold and presumably need to isolate. This will be the new normal for awhile. Glad we agree on how necessary it is to comply.

There's a human track and trace as well as the app. Please try and trust the process, it's kept other countries out of this shitshow

No, other countries got daily infection low first, its not possible to have TnT when we have 1000s of new infections each and every day, simple maths show that.

After the Cummings debacle, i wouldn't trust this lot to ran a bath.

Why are we trusting DC with our data? Why does he have any access to it? Presumably he doesn't go around accessing random data of individuals that the government holds otherwise? Confused

Just because that knot head put people’s lives at risk it doesn’t mean other people should too

It does according to some very immature people!

Someone tell me, how do we organise a trial by media for the Scots Transport Police Chief (drove 480 mile round trip during lockdown), Kinnock, some of my neighbours etc. who have flouted the lockdown guidelines also ?

I will continue to abide by the guidelines.

Wait until the data is used by the Tories in the 2024 election, thats after its been sold to the highest bidder first.
There is a reason the UK wanted a centralised app and not one the RoW uses, a locally held contact list.

Nobody is advocating putting people at risk. They're saying that the message is quite clear: use your instinct.

I personally think it's the wrong message as I don't trust people's instincts very much. I think a lot of people are very inclined to be selfish (as DC was of course) rather than do what's best for society.

But that's what our government has said. Use your instincts.

@Gammeldragz and others who wondered about people being within 2 metres of people...

I have been in contact with 29 people from outside of my household in the last 7 days in an office and about 7 different homes and gardens. All for longer than 15 minutes . This was doing my job carrying out statutory duties for the council following the guidelines given.
I washed my hands and my clothes when I got home though. I have no other way of doing my job and I don’t want to wear a mask around small children unless there are Covid symptoms.

If you're told to isolate for 2 weeks, what way does pay work? Is it just stat sick pay? That hardly seems fair for key workers - they're more likely to be in contact with someone because they're out working and mixing with members of the public (as opposed to furloughed workers and those able to wfh) but yet if they're told to isolated they'll be reduced to living off £90. My husbands employers certainly wont be subsidising sick pay. I'd like to think if they want people to do this, they should at least be paying isolating people furlough rate.

And surely it would be simpler to test those who have been in contact? What's to stop my husband isolating for 2 weeks, going back to work a few days only to be told hes been in contact with someone again? Would he have to isolate again? Is there a limit to how many times he will be forced to isolate on ssp?
