To avoid T or T by turning my phone off when out

Pissed off with hypocrisy of government.

I’m playing by the rules and still properly social distancing so there’s no way I’m self isolating for 2 weeks if they call me.

Can turning phones off when out avoid being radarred?

Compulsory ID cards to be rolled out in the very near future then...

PilatesPeach · 27/05/2020 20:27

thanks Schools I am half expecting to be yo-yoing in and out of isolation once I go back to teaching!

Jenasaurus · 27/05/2020 20:28

So say your in a shop when they open again and closer than 2m to the person in front of you for 15 mins. You then test positive, how would they trace that customer.

PickUpAPickUpAPenguin · 27/05/2020 20:28

I don't believe that this app will be safe or reliable.

Who tested it? Where does my data go? Who has access to it? Is it destroyed once this is "over"? Who destroys the data? How reliable is the app considering that GPS location can be inaccurate? Etc

manitobajane · 27/05/2020 20:29

A job where we don't have PPE and where we aren't allowed phones in the workplace.

JudyCoolibar · 27/05/2020 20:31

Matt Hancock said today that we’d be fined if we didn’t isolate for 2 weeks when told to

So he wants to incentivise people not to download the app, then, I take it?

CalmYoBadSelf · 27/05/2020 20:31

I have always said when people complain how crap we are compared to South Korea, etc that the British would not accept the infringement of their privacy to achieve good track and trace
I agree it is pathetic to not want to take part in protecting yourself and others on the grounds of Dominic Cummings acting like a pillock. You'd be sorrier than he would if you got it and one of your family or friends died because of your principled stand against him

OldLace · 27/05/2020 20:31

The whole thing is an utter Horlicks.
It won't work at all.
It's just to soften the 'herd immunity' policy that they are still using.
They want and need many more of us exposed to it before the winter.

Eeyoresstickhouse · 27/05/2020 20:32

@PickUpAPickUpAPenguin

Why on earth aren't they using the Google/Apple app?
Cos Dominic Cummings family don't have a stake in that unlike the one they tested on the Isle of Wight.
Jellykat · 27/05/2020 20:32

Thats what i've been wondering too Jenasaurus

Hingeandbracket · 27/05/2020 20:32

If people want to track you they bloody would regardless if you have an app on your phone.
That's true of an individual - for example where they become of interest to anti-terror Police, but it can't be done at scale to manage the virus and testing/tracing unless we have an app, there simply aren't the resources.

In order for it to work, the government would need to convince the vast majority that it's in everyone's interest.

So far all they have proved is they are lying buffoons who don't think the rules apply to them, so they aren't doing a great job of convincing us they are really acting in out best interests.

BanjoStarz · 27/05/2020 20:33

@sexbearhouse. How do you normally pay for your commute?

Unless it’s cash...they already have your details and could find you if they wanted to...just generally the government doesn’t have time, inclination or funds to find you.

Even if you pay cash - if you make a phone call, log into the transport WiFi, log into costa/Starbucks/McDonalds WiFi in the train station etc the government knows where you’ve been.

Not singling you out - more than anyone can be traced if the government is sufficiently interested in them - whether or not they download the app.

Tangledyarn · 27/05/2020 20:34

At the moment we are not using an app. Only giving contact details of people we have been in close contact with in the previous few days, so friends, family, colleagues etc IF we have tested positive. I think that sounds totally reasonable, its helpful to know particularly if you are vulnerable or in close contact with people that are. I'm not going to be keen to isolate as am v likely to already have some immunity but will be do it anyway, I'm not doing it for the government but for other people.

Hingeandbracket · 27/05/2020 20:34

Compulsory ID cards to be rolled out in the very near future then...
And I won't be carrying one of those either. The government is not in charge of who I am - that's me.

PickUpAPickUpAPenguin · 27/05/2020 20:34

Nobody worried that the government is suddenly going to know the identity of a whole lot of PAYG sim owners?

Would it be an offence if I registered myself as a fake person (I could call myself Dom Cummings 😂)

pontypridd · 27/05/2020 20:34

It makes me sad too Redcherries

I wish I could comply. But I can’t. I don’t trust this Government. That makes me very sad.

But I always listen to my gut feeling. I know what’s right. And taking part in this, for me at this time, is wrong.

Just avoid other people?
tbh, this is very easy in my life now.
and like DH says, only allow yourself to be 15minutes time spent with people you don't know at all.

manitobajane · 27/05/2020 20:36

I expect they will easily trace people in the big cities but if you live and work rurally and don't take your phone with you when you go out (which I don't when I am with my children as I have no need of it) then it's going to give limited tracking data surely?

sexbearhouse · 27/05/2020 20:40

Interesting Banjo

I get a ticket from my local little station to "London Zones 1- 6 Travelcard" Or to London terminals. I pay by CC in the machine.

They could possibly work out what train I caught to the local Hub Station, but would have no idea whatsoever which of the various trains I then caught (trains go to three different London terminus stations) and they wouldn't know which carriage I sat in.

I can't see how it would work without the app.

PickUpAPickUpAPenguin · 27/05/2020 20:40

Is the technology good enough to distinguish between people living on different floors of a block of flats?

Do you get sick pay when self isolating? Can employers sack you for having to self isolate?

AKissAndASmile · 27/05/2020 20:40

I'm seriously reluctant to download an app that means putting my personal details in the hands of a company which Cummings' dodgy mates have their sticky fingers in.

Especially as the woman overseeing this had to step down from her role at TalkTalk after a cyberattack that caused a serious data breach involving thousands of their customers. You couldn't make it up Hmm

FlamingoAndJohn · 27/05/2020 20:42

I think you missed the part where there isn’t going to be an app. So stomping your feet and refusing to download it won’t work

I’ve clearly missed that memo too. As I understand it’s going to be ready in a few weeks.

sexbearhouse · 27/05/2020 20:42

Although I totally get what you mean about they would find me if I were Villanelle Grin

Tedgy · 27/05/2020 20:43

Stand outside DC's house for 20 minutes, then book in for a covid test. He will have to isolate until the test shows you're negative.

ScrapThatThen · 27/05/2020 20:43

There's a human track and trace as well as the app. Please try and trust the process, it's kept other countries out of this shitshow.
