To avoid T or T by turning my phone off when out

Pissed off with hypocrisy of government.

I’m playing by the rules and still properly social distancing so there’s no way I’m self isolating for 2 weeks if they call me.

Can turning phones off when out avoid being radarred?

Why on earth aren't they using the Google/Apple app?

ineedaholidaynow · 27/05/2020 20:11

If people don’t comply they have said fines may need to be imposed.

sexbearhouse · 27/05/2020 20:12

I would prefer an app to be honest.

If I am on a crowded train with someone who later tests positive, how will they let me know? They won't.

This system won't work properly without the app.

JacobReesMogadishu · 27/05/2020 20:13

How will they know if people don’t comply? We don’t have to carry ID so being stopped outside will do nothing. If someone doesn’t answer the door for a spot check they’ll just say they were asleep.

Boris was asked if it was the law.....he didn’t answer but said people would be asked. So reading between the lines it’s not law. Can people be fined for not doing what they were asked?

Then there’s all the “I had childcare issues” excuses to contend with!

Smellbellina · 27/05/2020 20:14

My phones sim was cut off and only works of the WiFi at home, will T and T still work does anyone know? Obviously I usually leave my phone at home as it’s pretty pointless taking it anywhere!

Smellbellina · 27/05/2020 20:15

Oops didn’t read the thread properly Blush

ineedaholidaynow · 27/05/2020 20:16

But why won’t people want to comply? If it helps loosen lockdown so we can have a more normal life.

Hingeandbracket · 27/05/2020 20:16

Eh?

Your phone can be traced based on the masts it connects to - this isn't an exact location. The Police use the data sometimes but they have to ask for it.

Apps like the one we may or may not be offered can use a combination of GPS data and bluetooth to see the pattern of interaction between you and others with the app.

In any of the above cases, turning your phone off altogether will prevent any tracking.

Radar is not used at all in any of these systems.

feelingverylazytoday · 27/05/2020 20:18

There's not really a lot of point if people refuse to download it. The UK isn't a police state, we're not forced to even have smartphones, let alone carry them around with us and download apps.
Contract tracing should do the job anyway, it works quite well with STDs, at least with known partners. I would guess people will have to show ID to book appointments at hairdressers, etc.

HeadSpin5 · 27/05/2020 20:18

Yes to the ‘noT sinking to the lowest common denominator’. I despise this government and in particular, it’s handling of the D.C. debacle. But sticking two fingers up to the government here on principle won’t do anything other than slowing this whole clusterfuck down. I’ll take my protest to the ballot box and in the meantime, can hopefully get my kid back to school and my parents/family back in my life all in a safe and meaningful way.

pontypridd · 27/05/2020 20:18

I am confused.

Matt Hancock said today that we’d be fined if we didn’t isolate for 2 weeks when told to.

Surely that’s all connected to the app?

@ineedaholidaynow

But why won’t people want to comply? If it helps loosen lockdown so we can have a more normal life.
Because they’re selfish and still tantrumming about Dominic Cummings. “He broke the rules so why should I follow them!” Hmm

One person being a cunt does not mean others should be too.

ineedaholidaynow · 27/05/2020 20:20

And for those who have children at school, this is the approach they are adopting in the bubbles that they will be in.

JudyCoolibar · 27/05/2020 20:20

I'm seriously reluctant to download an app that means putting my personal details in the hands of a company which Cummings' dodgy mates have their sticky fingers in.

Hingeandbracket · 27/05/2020 20:21

But why won’t people want to comply?
Perhaps they might feel that since the government keeps telling us all a fucking pack of lies and then telling us to shut up and move on, that they cannot trust the government.
The lack of trust might be - they don't trust the government when they say it will work, or it might be they don't trust the government with the data.
So far the only reliable thing from government has been lies.

Hingeandbracket · 27/05/2020 20:22

One person being a cunt does not mean others should be too.
It's not one person though, it's the whole fucking lot of them.

PilatesPeach · 27/05/2020 20:22

What is classed as contact - how near do you have to be for 15 minutes? For example. I'm a fitness instructor - if class sizes are cut so everyone is more than 2m apart but the class lasts 60 mins and someone say a week later tests positive, does the whole class get contacted or are we all too far away?

Do you have to be within 2 metres for more than 15 minutes for it to count if that makes sense? thanks

schoolsoutforcovid · 27/05/2020 20:23

I don't know what @manitobajane does but I can think of many settings where you'd have to be in close proximity with others for a good length of time. Can people really not imagine what the reality of working in a prison, a school, certain shops, care homes, police stations, power stations, oil rigs, the forces......on and on it goes

sexbearhouse · 27/05/2020 20:23

Contract tracing should do the job anyway,

I don't think it will though lazy

My usual commute is over an hour on a commuter train. I don't generally provide my name and contact details to everyone sitting/standing within 2 metres of me Grin

Contact tracing won't help with any situation where people are infected by someone they don't know.

pontypridd I think he meant once the T & T person calls you you are then supposed to stay at home, but as PP have said, they have no way of policing this. Post Cummings I think a lot of people will not comply if they are self employed or think they have already had the virus.

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/05/2020 20:24

And for those who have children at school, this is the approach they are adopting in the bubbles that they will be in.

Except family members of those self isolating don't have to self isolate, so the parent of said isolating child isn't technically self isolating - they're off work to care for their child...so that'll be no sick pay then.

pontypridd · 27/05/2020 20:24

I’m terrified of this government. This country is getting more and more dystopian.

There’s no way I’ll be downloading the app and giving Cummings/Gove/ Boris or any of them any of my information.

OP posts:
schoolsoutforcovid · 27/05/2020 20:24

@PilatesPeach when exercising you'd need an even bigger distance, not to mention air circulation indoors is different. Tricky

Hingeandbracket · 27/05/2020 20:26

Matt Hancock said today that we’d be fined if we didn’t isolate for 2 weeks when told to.

That is like TV Licencing - it relies on trust.

In reality if large numbers of us don't do as we are told there will be fuck all they can do about it.

I am not advocating ignoring advice - just pointing out that almost all policing of "rules" is by consent - just as one example, Cummings wouldn't have got caught except for being recognised - and even then he's not been fined for obvious rule breaking.

Redcherries · 27/05/2020 20:26

This makes me so sad. This is potentially one of the ways shielded people can possibly have a vague life instead of god knows how long in isolation in their homes, how the general public can start to get back on track and the country to start getting back to as close to normal as possible.

2 weeks isolation vs this shit for who knows how long.

If people want to track you they bloody would regardless if you have an app on your phone. I can’t imagine thinking my day to day life was so bloody important the government would want to track me.

sexbearhouse · 27/05/2020 20:27

I think most people I know would rather download an Apple/Google app as we already trust them with huge amounts of our personal data - thumbprints, face recognition, bank details etc etc.

I would trust them more than Johnson and the other useless arseholes.
