To avoid T or T by turning my phone off when out

Pissed off with hypocrisy of government.

I’m playing by the rules and still properly social distancing so there’s no way I’m self isolating for 2 weeks if they call me.

Can turning phones off when out avoid being radarred?

Covid Tracer here, a person confirmed with virus will be contacted and asked about there whereabouts, symptoms, who they live with etc. Their contacts will be told they have come into contact with a confirmed case.
And then given all the options and advice applicable

GreenGlassVase · 27/05/2020 21:45

Apologies for poor typing here

PhilCornwall1 · 27/05/2020 21:45

It uses Bluetooth not WiFi so you don't need to have data.

If you want to report your symptoms through it you'll need WiFi if you don't have data, as the actual reporting screen that comes up on the app is just a web form served from the NHS COVID-19 site.

StrawberryJam200 · 27/05/2020 21:47

But you could do that when connected to home/work Costa's free WiFi (just an example, don't even know if Costa has free WiFi!)

jasjas1973 · 27/05/2020 21:47

But if the majority make that decision, many more will die, maybe even someone you love, and we'll revert to total lockdown - and the second time it might be like Spain etc, where not even exercise is allowed

And whose fault will that be? Yep Johnson for putting politics before public health plus is chronic mishandling of the whole pandemic.
They'll be a revolution before we enter another lockdown, we cannot afford it, the only country in the world to have so screwed up Cv we need to have a 2nd attempt!

Maryann1975 · 27/05/2020 21:48

She's self employed and says she can't lose the work
^^This.
I’m basically being forced to go back to work because there is no more help coming for the self employed. 5 days before I’m due to reopen, I hear that a phone call might shut me back down for 2 weeks, because someone says they have been near me for 15 minutes. Are the government going to be Providing financial support to those of us who have already ‘sacrificed so much’. Or do they expect Us to just Get on with 2 weeks of self isolation for the good of the country while watching the rich and powerful do as they please.

StrawberryJam200 · 27/05/2020 21:49

Surely the next announcement from the Chancellor has to be address this question, they must cover the pay of those asked to self isolate?

PhilCornwall1 · 27/05/2020 21:49

But you could do that when connected to home/work Costa's free WiFi (just an example, don't even know if Costa has free WiFi!)

That's why i said you'd need WiFi as a minimum, I wasn't meaning in your own home.

peoplepleaser1 · 27/05/2020 21:49

T&T is the best shot, and the only shot we have to beat this virus' transmission down.

If enough people participate we have a real chance of reducing transmission, saving lives, releasing vulnerable people from their prison, allowing people who are desperately struggling a chance, not loosing someone you love.

If too many people refuse to participate this will go one and on. Millions will suffer and we may get a second wave where someone you love gets sick and dies.

Sod what you think of the government. Don't be like DC. Don't join him at the bottom of the heap.

This is not a choice between anything other than simply being a good person who wants to beat this virus, and a difficult person putting politics, hysteria and personal gripes before saving your fellow man and woman.

jasjas1973 · 27/05/2020 21:51

@GreenGlassVase what do you do if they are uncooperative? language issues or hang up?

sexbearhouse · 27/05/2020 21:51

@GreenGlassVase and @NELass

When you call the people, do you tell them WHO it is they have been in contact with that has the virus? I am assuming not as that would be a breach of their privacy.

So what is to stop some dastardly people who get the virus saying oh yeah I have been in contact with A, B ,C and reeling off a list of people they hate if they know they won't want to be isolated?

peoplepleaser1 · 27/05/2020 21:52

@Maryann1975 I'm self employed. I got zero help. I went from earning great money to zero. I just managed- just.

I'd isolate again in a heartbeat to help beat this virus. I can't put anything higher on my priority list. I want a clear conscience. I won't starve, I'll use foodbanks if I need to.

stickerqueen · 27/05/2020 21:54

I'm glad I only have a basic phone for making calls. Can't put any app on my phone if I wanted too.

peoplepleaser1 · 27/05/2020 21:54

@sexbearhouse there will be problems and issues but if we can get it mostly right than it will work. Debating every possible small issue isnt helpful.

There is no alternative, and there is no way around some of these kinks.

Other countries have used T&T with great success. We need to swallow this and get on with it.

Then use your vote wisely next time....

NELass · 27/05/2020 21:54

@sexbearhouse

Thanks *@NELass*

What about tracing people you have been in contact with but don't know - like the train or restaurant example? We would need an app for that, right?

No. There are 3 levels of call handlers. I’ll be tier 3. We put on the questionnaire where you have been and ask as for much detail as possible. This would the be sent to tier 2. You absolutely don’t need the app to be called. We are being well trained but remember that it’s the start of something new and there will be teething problems. We are trying to contain the virus and save lives and we really need the public’s help with this. I’m just hoping we don’t get abuse because people think the Tories just want to steal your data which is absolutely not true.
GreenGlassVase · 27/05/2020 21:55

You don’t disclose who the confirmed case is

sexbearhouse · 27/05/2020 21:55

@sexbearhouse there will be problems and issues but if we can get it mostly right than it will work. Debating every possible small issue isnt helpful.

I am interested!! I am very distrusting of people who tell me that education isn't helpful.....

NELass · 27/05/2020 21:56

sexbearhouse

No, you won’t be told the name of the contact. Even I won’t know

sexbearhouse · 27/05/2020 21:56

@GreenGlassVase

You don’t disclose who the confirmed case is
Very Interesting.....
LemonTT · 27/05/2020 21:57

There has always been public health legislation that can be used to confine and prosecute people with infectious diseases who wilfully infect others in the community. The government aren’t planning on using it or using any other forms of surveillance to monitor compliance. But they are saying they may need to consider it if people infect others. It’s that or another lockdown. This time there won’t be furlough.

The countries who we keep hailing as success stories use far more intrusive methods to track and trace people who test positive.

TheWordWomanIsTaken · 27/05/2020 21:59

@ScarfLadysBag

I find it interesting because people have posted previously about how well other countries have implemented track and trace and have been able to ease lockdown, but the difference seems to be that the people are a lot more willing to do it (or in the case of China, for example, have no other choice). But in Britain we have this dichotomy between people wanting lockdown to ease but this reticence to let 'the government' know anything about their lives (despite the fact that you are tracked in a zillion other ways every day anyway).
It is interesting. I won't be downloading an app purely because I do not trust this government. Not one tiny bit. It is not about them knowing where I am but what they will do with my data etc. Its willingness to sell us out to America and make a quick buck rather than look after its people is pretty unedifying to me.
GreenGlassVase · 27/05/2020 22:00

There are strategies for people who refuse to engage, who are non English speaking, and who hang up the phone.
Remember the aim is to help people and prevent the spread of the virus.
And stop the whole country continuing in the same manner of lockdown, with job losses and loss of life
America has used these methods successfully, to contain and prevent the spread of illness

GreenGlassVase · 27/05/2020 22:02

You don’t need to download the app.
People who have confirmed cases of coronavirus will be asked for help to try and prevent them spreading the disease and potentially killing other people as a result

jasjas1973 · 27/05/2020 22:04

The countries who we keep hailing as success stories use far more intrusive methods to track and trace people who test positive

Which countries? Asia aside, Germany doesn't go around locking people up.... it even switched apps to the Google Apple one to combat fears over privacy.
We should do the same, public trust has been very badly dented.

But until we get daily infections down, TnT will not work, too many contacts to track down and the poor wont ask for test if mild symptoms if they know they'l get little or no pay.

peoplepleaser1 · 27/05/2020 22:04

@TheWordWomanIsTaken please consider that this system is our way out of this mess. Our only way. Your political protest will prolong our misery, and kill people. That makes you as bad or worse than the people you despise.

I wang to be able to tell my future grandkids that I played my part. That I didn't stoop to the level of the point scorers.
