Thank you :)
His statement about applies to everyone was very damning

Roussette · 30/05/2020 16:57

Wasn't it just.
Someone on the podium has to say it.

solieltoday · 30/05/2020 16:58

I think Van Tam tried to make his view clear at least on the Cummings affair. What did he say - “The rules are very clear. The rules apply to everyone.” I think short of naming names, we can only interpret that one way.

He seems genuinely concerned that we are at a “dangerous” point and worried that the public are alienated and any sense of “social contract” has been undermined.

Of course, the politician whatshisname, just parroted the usual line - “Mr Cummings has explained at length.... blah blah”

Yes and it’s precisely this “explanation” that has angered people, you muppet!

FliesandPies · 30/05/2020 17:06

Yes, please explain it again for us. Maybe it won't sound like a pack of stupid lies after the 100th time?

Roussette · 30/05/2020 17:09

That politician Oliver Dowden really gets on my nerves. He posted this on Twitter...
"Dom Cummings followed the guidelines and looked after his family. End of story."

I came back saying 'who do you think you are telling us the electorate it's 'end of story'. WE will decide that, just as we decide whether you carry on as an MP at the next election'

Pompous twat.

itsgettingweird · 30/05/2020 17:10

Rousse nice one!

Roussette · 30/05/2020 17:11

Grin Grin
I got quite a lot of likes for that comment!

FliesandPies · 30/05/2020 17:13

Zinger!

Peregrina · 30/05/2020 17:19

Yes, we can tell our MPs that they ought to watch their step, or (especially those in marginal seats), they might find themselves voted out at the next election. We can't vote out Cummings though.

Egghead68 · 30/05/2020 17:23

I heart JVT.

Violetparis · 30/05/2020 17:59

Seen a cryptic tweet about polling by Opinium appearing in The Observer tomorrow together with a shocked emoji face, I assume it means shocking for the government.

chomalungma · 30/05/2020 18:03

That was a wow moment from JVT.

He wanted to answer that question. And the last question of the briefing too.

AnneKipanki · 30/05/2020 18:07

The scientists think that the R number is too close to 1 for the lockdown to be eased.
Should we all use our instincts ?

Pilcrow · 30/05/2020 18:10

Nice hashtag on Twitter - #WhamBamVanTam

(Also - #JeanClaudeVanTam Grin)

Just read an article in The House. It was about parliament returning to house of commons for PMQs etc and various viewpoints.

This paragraph was quite amusing due to the wording

"Staff are concerned that if MPs expect to return to a full parliament they will expect business as usual and return with their staff and invite visitors and expect the same level of service from House staff. House authorities are relying on MPs doing the right thing and not viewing their own circumstances as exceptional – this is simply not good enough, staff need clarity on these fundamental points.”

Mumratheevergiving · 30/05/2020 18:42

Van Tam is the man! We are all in this together, not rules are made to be broken.

Alsohuman · 30/05/2020 18:49

Van Tam was brilliant. Love him.

MissEliza · 30/05/2020 19:05

@Roussette well done. That comment wound me up.

SophieB100 · 30/05/2020 19:33

Thank god for Prof JVT!
"I'm happy to answer that question"
And
"The rules apply to everyone. That is all I'm prepared to say."

About bloody time. No PM to stop him from answering. And thank you Observer journo, for asking the question, and not giving up.

JVT can survive without the PM. The PM can't survive without his aide.
Haven't we had our eyes opened this week?

Sunday Times’ David Collins on Twitter this evening:

In tomorrow's @thesundaytimes we speak to three separate witnesses, each one a resident of Barnard Castle, and compare their alleged sightings of Dominic Cummings on April 12th with his rose garden statement in No10 on Monday...

Stay tuned.

Roussette · 30/05/2020 22:04

80s and MissEliza it wound me up big time too!

Explain DC away if you must, but don't treat us like complete plebs who have to doff our caps and do as we're told Grin
