The drivers of two cars travelling from London to Durham the week after #DominicCummings drove up there were stopped by police, fined and told to turn back, according to an F.O.I request just seen
@BBCNews
. Only the Barnard Castle trip was deemed illegal

Notonthestairs · 28/05/2020 15:11

AG oversees CPS. If she's interfered inappropriately in a (possible) case by publicly commenting on it before it's been considered then she is in trouble. I imagine there will be an investigation.

CendrillonSings · 28/05/2020 15:12

The witch-hunt is over. Retweeting bullshit doesn’t change reality.

Alsohuman · 28/05/2020 15:13

@chomalungma

Let’s just file that with the rest of your political predictions, shall we

Remind me of the current approval rating for Boris Johnson?
How many points has the Conservative party lost in the last few days?
How are the voters in the Red Wall feeling?

Yes, come on @CendrillonSings, we all know how much you love your polls.
Peregrina · 28/05/2020 15:15

This, I’m afraid, is a resigning issue for @SuellaBraverman.

Not that it will occur to her to do so, and we will have more piffle and waffle from the PM Cumming's lapdog Johnson in support of her. But it will be yet more evidence for there being one rule for them and another for the rest of us.

SabrinaThwaite · 28/05/2020 15:16

Retweeting bullshit doesn’t change reality.

The reality that the Durham Police considered that Cummings was in breach of the law on his Barney jaunt isn't changed by you wanting it to be not so.

Interesting to see what Braverman does now.

We’re still leading the Labour Party comfortably, despite everything the Opposition and media could throw at us, and the next election is 4 years away.

Still sticking by your prediction that Boris will be gone by Christmas? We could all use a good laugh, I’m sure! Grin

The lockdown breach might be dealt with, the subsequent lies and the gaslighting are not

Police fined two people for travelling from London to Durham on 8 April
Vikram Dodd Vikram Dodd
Durham police today said they fined two people for travelling hundreds of miles from London to their area during the coronavirus lockdown.

The news comes as a fresh statement from Durham police is expected as soon as today, following their examination of claims of sightings of Dominic Cummings in the Durham area, and whether lockdown rules had been broken.

A spokesperson for Durham police confirmed the fines were issued on 8 April against two people from different households who travelled together from London to Peterlee, in County Durham. That trip is about 260 miles and came just over a week after the prime minister’s key aide decided to drive with his wife and child from his London home to his parents’ farm, fearing being struck down by coronavirus.

The trip by Cummings has led to no action by police, and its revelation on Friday by the Guardian and Daily Mirror led to calls for Cummings’ resignation, but he has maintained his actions were lawful and not in breach of the lockdown.

Cummings also admitted to a trip on 12 April to a beauty spot, Barnard Castle, with his wife and child. He said on Monday he had been testing his eyesight and fitness to drive after being struck down by the virus.

Durham police say since the original news stories, they have received further claims and complaints from the public and are examining that information.

Cummings said he travelled to ensure childcare in case he and his wife were struck down by the virus, and claims an exemption to the stay at home order issued by his boss, the prime minister, allowed him to make the trip. Many disagree and have called for his resignation. The new statement from Durham police is eagerly awaited.

Police spend in ordinate amounts of time in shopping centres taking this approach with teens

Which is a good approach to take - teens under 18 are still technically children. Now I know that Cumming's dresses like the scruffiest of teens, but I think it's at least a couple of decades since he saw his teens. He's had chance to grow up, and he's supposed to be clever.

CendrillonSings · 28/05/2020 15:20

The reality that the Durham Police considered that Cummings was in breach of the law on his Barney jaunt isn't changed by you wanting it to be not so.

Oh well, if they ‘considered’ that then surely they’re going to charge him with a crime then?

What’s that? No charges? Oh dear! Grin

Peregrina · 28/05/2020 15:24

What will Braverman do - nothing I should imagine. What will the lapdog Johnson do, back her to the hilt.

How will most of the public react? One rule for them and another for us.

Roussette · 28/05/2020 15:24

Still sticking by your prediction that Boris will be gone by Christmas? We could all use a good laugh, I’m sure

Let's see shall we?
Look at good old Maggie... she was ousted with a big majority so I'd stop crowing if I were you. Otherwise you might well end up with a lot of egg on your face.

As for you telling people to stop retweeting bullshit, I'll retweet what I want as much as I want thanks... there's a strong feeling out there, I follow over 3,000 and have same number of followers, and a lot of interesting stuff is slowly coming out.

SabrinaThwaite · 28/05/2020 15:24

@CendrillonSings

You're missing the point here. Cummings acted unlawfully. Previously, before the Durham Police investigation, the Prime Minister told the country that he hadn't, and the Attorney General immediately leapt in to agree with him.

You can argue as much as you like that just because the Durham Police aren't taking retrospective action that it doesn't matter (which is what the Government desperately want us to believe), but Braverman has completely fucked up by politicising her AG role.

But, you keep fighting the Good Tory Fight, the more you keep banging the "move on" drum, the more we'll dig our heels in.

I'm emailing my MP again right now.

We? We? Us?

You realise that politics is not a football match?

You're not supposed to "back your team", however badly they lose the league. You're supposed to have principles of your own. Pick whatever party is closest to the principles you hold dearest. Don't fall into the trap of identifying with them. Political tribalism is something to deplore.

sleepingpup · 28/05/2020 15:25

What’s that? No charges? Oh dear!

Did you think it was just about "charges" @CendrillonSings

No charges for the sex professor or the scottish advisor.

itsgettingweird · 28/05/2020 15:28

Cren do you honestly believe the people who voted in a government and want that government held account to the very rules they work the are on a witch hunt?

The only contribution you seem to have is to repeat that.

We live in a democracy. We have a voice and are entitled to use it.

Peregrina · 28/05/2020 15:28

But at least they had the integrity to resign, and weren't suffering from the disease. But Cummings probably wasn't either, probably just had a bug.

CendrillonSings · 28/05/2020 15:29

I'm emailing my MP again right now.

Oh noooos, Cummings is surely done for now! Grin

FliesandPies · 28/05/2020 15:30

Cynicism, small-mindedness, power for it's own sake - yep, they've chosen their party well.

Do you want to predict that Boris will be out by Christmas too? Go on - more fun for everyone!

Roussette · 28/05/2020 15:32

Haha so Braverman has deleted her inaccurate tweet defending DC. What a surprise.
Luckily it was screenshotted.

itsgettingweird · 28/05/2020 15:33

Rousette it's referred to all over her FB page too.

Don't be so juvenile. I don't put a date on these sort of things. I've got more sense.
Shame Little Matty Hancock didn't adhere to that. Made himself look a bit of an arse bandying dates around. Bit like the track and trace which is going tits up on dates

Peregrina · 28/05/2020 15:35

Luckily it was screenshotted.

They really should have learnt to be more internet savvy by now.
