Him - not you 😬

Rosehip10 · 26/05/2020 09:36

Funny how it was his Mum's Birthday when he nipped up to Durham too.

LaurieMarlow · 26/05/2020 09:36

He's made it crystal clear that he has nothing but contempt for the public and thinks we're stupid enough to swallow it.

Tbf plenty on here proving him right.

MashedPotatoBrainz · 26/05/2020 09:36

I should add, that based on some of the comments I see here and on other media platforms, I think he's correct, enough will swallow it.

Figmentofmyimagination · 26/05/2020 09:37

It made me more convinced than previously that he suffers from some sort of narcissistic personality disorder (this will already have been evident to anyone who followed his crazed blog and his spats with Damien Collins and carol Cadwalladr).

This is very worrying (and borderline surreal) given that he is at the heart of our government’s decision making.

travellerist · 26/05/2020 09:37

The hypocrisy is strong in Mumsnet

This.

Do I believe for one minute all the PP calling DC a disgusting scumbag etc have adhered to all the guidelines for the duration of lockdown? Are doing fortnightly not back to weekly shops etc? Do I piss? It'd be lucky if 5% have. Spouting vitriol on MN while posting #BeKind on FB. laughable.

IntermittentParps · 26/05/2020 09:38

It's horseshit. Obviously.

The real question though is why was he allowed to give a press conference at No 10? Why didn't his 'boss' (I noted how confused he looked when one of the journos referred to Johnson as such) just fire him, announce it and move on? We seem to have a government run by non-elected advisors who we can't get rid of through democratic channels, which is deeply worrying.

LaurieMarlow · 26/05/2020 09:39

I think he has been rather silly, but I think we all need to get back to the question of the current crisis and concentrate on fighting that

Which he’s made infinitely harder by gifting the public with ‘testing my eyesight’ as their excuse for breaking lockdown rules.

He needs to go. The government can’t command respect in these circumstances.

GabsAlot · 26/05/2020 09:39

yes when i need an eye test i always go driving isnt that standard?

BGD2012 · 26/05/2020 09:39

He broke the rules but will not apologise and is playing the victim. He is unelected but is being hugely protected by the Cabinet despite the struggles their constituents have gone through. He plays at being anti establishment but is at the top of the political elite and does what he wants.

sleepingpup · 26/05/2020 09:40

For someone advising Gov on strategy in unprecedented times I am really unimpressed with his ability to deal with a stressful situation.

Why didn't the family have a plan in place?
Did the whole of the cabinet think they were immune?
Why was it a massive surprise when they got ill?

Like that scientist bod said on the BBC
why wasn't his first thought to arrange child care locally and not jump into the car and drive a few hundred miles cross country? That should have been plan C or D not bloody plan A.
Particularly as he had helped draft the whole lockdown ' stay at home ' plan anyway.

He and and his family were in a situation that could of been faced by thousands and thousands of others. So in the first instance why the hell was't it referred to DIRECTLY in the lock down strategy. IE CHILDREN - IF ALL CARERS ARE ILL.

IT is fucking obvious that he should resign. if only for the bloody distraction he has caused.

But this lot are a complete bunch of clowns who seem terrified of losing him.

This whole episode is a fucking national disgrace

LaurieMarlow · 26/05/2020 09:40

Plenty of them have. However it’s not particularly relevant, they’re not in the same position as Dom.

How can anyone be expected to abide by the rules if the people who made them don’t.

It undermines everything.

FoolsAssassin · 26/05/2020 09:42

Agree we need to get back to fighting my the current crisis. I can absolutely see how tracking app is very important and could make a big difference going forward.

Problem is the more I think about what Cummings said yesterday the crosser I become and the less I trust the Government in any way, including keeping my data safe. I then find myself not wanting to download the app which seeing as I think it’s important going forward gives me a dilemma.

Had I not seen Mr Cummings yesterday I would have gone ahead and downloaded it but now I need to think about it some more and am at the moment veering towards not having it.

CherieBabySpliffUp · 26/05/2020 09:42

As much as I disagree with what he did if one of the teenage nieces had come to London to stay with them and look after the 4 yo then she could have got it 🤷‍♂️

It's funny how DC got health advice before travelling back but didn't get health advice before travelling up.
I think yesterday proved that he is bulletproof so we should move on as other more important stuff about the government's response will be missed.

DippyAvocado · 26/05/2020 09:43

Ah, so it Boris who needs glasses now. I thought he was talking about DC, which was odd as he often wears glasses! A sign of the times that I assume they will tell completely obvious and easily verifiable lies.

I'm sure Covid can affect the eyesight. Probably why you shouldn't drive 30 miles with your family on public roads if you think yours have been affected!

derxa · 26/05/2020 09:44

Bit rude. With 3 vulnerable loved ones, Sorry I didn't mean to be. The country seems to be divided into those who have been doing their own thing, those who are following 'the rules' as they interpret them with great cost to their own health even though they don't need to and those who have had to be very careful and shielded themselves for good reason.

Nonnymum · 26/05/2020 09:45

Do I believe for one minute all the PP calling DC a disgusting scumbag etc have adhered to all the guidelines for the duration of lockdown? Are doing fortnightly not back to weekly shops etc?
I haven t called him a scumbag. But yes I have kept to all the guidelines including not seeing my grandchildren or children for 10 weeks and not helping my daughter with childcare with her 3 young children when she had Covid. Or viisting my ill brother who is on a care home. And many people are like me, which is why we are so angry. Even if people have broken some guidelines I doubt they are as huge as his infringements nor are they the Governments cheif advise who should be beyond reproach.
Also there is no rule that says you can only go shopping once a fortnight. It says go as infrequently as you can. For some people that will be weekly.

Spacepocket · 26/05/2020 09:45

There are literally thousands of other people in the UK who have flouted lockdown regulations because they believe themselves and their kids to be more important than society as a whole. There have been plenty of them on MN.
Cummings probably should have resigned. The eye testing thing was just weird. But let’s not pretend that his attitude is unique.
And at the minute, we don’t need any more instability than we’re already living with and it’s almost a case of better the devil you know.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 26/05/2020 09:46

Well, it worked on me! Made me laugh, angry then bored me to tears!

I just can't be arsed with it any more!

Votes.... next time, just vote him as far away from government as possible, via his connections.

Let's just hope there's someone I can vote for next time round!

Bertoldbrecht · 26/05/2020 09:46

Funnily enough I was under the impression that leaving the Eu would make our elected representatives more accountable. Sadly it doesn't apply to the unelected ones. And it's so ironic that it's the very architects of brexit who are doing it...

tabulahrasa · 26/05/2020 09:47

From Douglas Ross’ resignation letter

“I have constituents who didn't get to say goodbye to their loved ones; families who could not mourn together; people who did not visit sick relatives because they followed the guidance of the government. I cannot in good faith tell them that they were all wrong and one senior adviser to the government was right."

That’s the issue, the insistence that it was fine...

The vast majority of people have stuck to the lockdown IME - I know one or two people who haven't and they, not surprisingly, are the ones who think he hasn't done anything wrong.

He obviously believes he is right (DC) but there was no exceptional circumstances and I thought he undermined himself constantly (too ill to stand up, yet able to drive to the hospital hours later) and the eyesight test was laughable. He's lied to cover the times he was spotted and couldn't even come up with something plausible.

It wasn't a mistake to drive that far MilkTray, it was a deliberate choice.

Haenow · 26/05/2020 09:47

The rose garden performance was embarrassing. I thought he was a tosser before. This cemented it; think he’s a pretentious tosser.

sunglasses123 · 26/05/2020 09:48

Those people who were at the beaches yesterday supping beer and not managing social distancing have always been doing this. The family next to my DM has had endless large parties including celebrating EID. She did call the police but they were reluctant to come out.

There is someone saying a single parent had been taking out her kids more than once (that was OK), someone saying that their parent was getting more and more depressed so they went round and gave them a hug. All of that is OK tbh. If you are a Labour party supporter perhaps not for DC.

Funny how no proof has come out about his 'other' trips to Durham. Made up story perhaps? If would be extremely easy to prove where someone is with all the CCTV and phone records etc. Yet nothing has come out. I wonder why? Maybe the papers didnt check things properly.,

Honestly we need to concentrate on more important issues rather than storming his house with home made signs.
