I’ve even seen that they’re considering changing legislation around fines to suit DCs issue. What next? Update the Highway Code to allow you to drive for 30 miles to rest your eye sight?

Tellmetruth4 · 26/05/2020 19:50

test

JudyCoolibar · 26/05/2020 19:51

Isn't it possible that Kinnock was wrong and Cummings was even more wrong given he's the one who helped design the very lockdown laws he then broke?

Exactly. Plus, the major difference is that Kinnock didn't try to make out that what he did was within the rules, and he apologised.

twinnywinny14 · 26/05/2020 19:52

mobile.twitter.com/SteveWhiteRadio/status/1265341114246184961 This excellent 😂

JudyCoolibar · 26/05/2020 19:53

I forgot to add that I think many people are becoming very concerned as to why he is so important that he can’t be fired. The PM is willing to pay back hundreds of thousands of pounds in fines and sacrifice his own reputation and possibly career to protect an employee who’s not even a member of his party.

Indeed. Robert Jenrick was being asked this on the BBC at lunchtime, and he sounded incredibly uncomfortable. Needless to say, he didn't answer the question, though it was put to him three times.

The80sweregreat · 26/05/2020 20:00

'A man of the cloth ' in Brighton asked Matt Hancock about this today : changing the rules is so easy these days it seems.
Let's hope they can get refunds.

mondaynoon · 26/05/2020 20:01

I've had a reply from my (Tory) MP this evening. Just a generic one as obviously he'd had too many messages to reply individually. He said DC shouldn't be condemned for the trip to Durham. He spent a lot of time taking about how horrific the harassment of DC was.

But then he said he couldn't reconcile his travel as being in the spirit of the guidelines and he would not have done it. He also said he took particular issue with the driving to test eyesight.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 26/05/2020 20:20

'Let's hope they can get refunds.'

Totally agree. Anyone fined for leaving their house for exceptional childcare reasons should be refunded. I'm surprised anyone was fined for this tbh, the only people I saw on the news getting into trouble were those having house parties or similar.

Inoneminute · 26/05/2020 20:24

I'd be amazed if anyone was fined after a childcare excuse. Police were mostly just talking to people anyway, only finding repeat offenders but MH's response this evening seemed to suggest it was enough that the Treasury would need to be involved.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 26/05/2020 20:25

'no, just that Labour MPs are not of interest to the general public! '

True.

carlywurly · 26/05/2020 20:34

Oh it's all such utter bollocks and depressing that people are buying it.

The bar we've set for our leaders is pitifully low. I can't understand why we're so accepting of blatant corruption and lies. Sad

LockdownLucie · 26/05/2020 20:50

I wrote to my MP twice on Sunday. He still hasn’t replied. But someone shared a TWEET from him saying he didn't support what DC did. He is supposed to be a ‘yes man’ judging by comments on FB. I haven’t had any dealings with him. I just can’t believe how Dom and Bo Jo can spin us a few lines and expect this will just go away and they can sweep it under the carpet.
I even noticed a FB post this morning comparing the treatment of DC with the treatment of Caroline Flack and to ‘be kind’.

PamDenick · 26/05/2020 20:50

Do we remember the police photos of the party that happened early in Lockdown? How we condemned them for their cheap pop and sausage rolls.
It doesn't matter now… They should have been allowed to get away with it.

FliesandPies · 26/05/2020 20:51

I have sent two emails to my MP but no reply. I guess his in Durham or somewhere!

Or London. Same place according to Mrs Barney Castle.

lljkk · 26/05/2020 22:22

My MP is a brand new backbencher... he's up in my estimation (a lot, I would have figured him for a complete toady) by saying what DC did is obviously wrong and he needs to admit so.

itsgettingweird · 26/05/2020 22:28

Mines still silent since she came out in support.

I doubt she'll go against Bojo and Cummings.

But she's safer being silent whilst it's in the hands of the police.

ItsNotAGameOfSubbuteoMatthew · 26/05/2020 22:31

My nearest castle is less than 3 miles away and I wouldn't dream of driving to it if I was worried about my eyesight! I literally stayed at home on my lockdown birthday.

He's making fools of the general public and it shows the contempt he holds us in.

Griselda1 · 26/05/2020 23:15

His performance with the journalists at the weekend was quite arrogant but I had mixed emotions about his interview in the rose garden. I think he's quite different, to put it mildly and his perception certainly seems unique to him .Has anyone noticed the photographs of him in Downing Street with his sweater inside out , his child's shorts were back to front in the footage at the weekend. I work with a data analyst who behaves in a very similar way and he is brilliant at his job .

LizzieMacQueen · 26/05/2020 23:46

Newsnight was good tonight at laying out the facts. No one from Government was available for comment.

Alsohuman · 26/05/2020 23:49

There’s never anyone from the government available for comment. It doesn’t believe in accountability.

SabrinaThwaite · 26/05/2020 23:54

They managed to wheel out The Boy Bridgen though, always a good reminder of what a bulldog sucking piss off a nettle looks like.

lilgreen · 27/05/2020 08:10

Emily Maitlis was fab in summing up why we are angry. Hope BJ was watching.

Chillipeanuts · 27/05/2020 09:16

“Indeed. Robert Jenrick was being asked this on the BBC at lunchtime, and he sounded incredibly uncomfortable. Needless to say, he didn't answer the question, though it was put to him three times.”

He was on Today Programme this morning. Michelle Hussein effectively elicited a blanket permission from him, for all of us to travel cross country in the name of childcare whether we have active coronavirus symptoms or not.
Wonder how long it will take him to dislodge the rocket?

OldLace · 27/05/2020 09:30

For the first time in my life, yesterday, I emailed my local MP, the Conservative Party, and Downing Street.

I wonder how long it will take to get a reply?

Michelleoftheresistance · 27/05/2020 09:31

This morning on R4 it was a repeated stone wall of move on. Move on. We have to move on.

Yes, I get that it would be much nicer for the govt if the general public would just give up and let this go. It would be much nicer for the general public if the govt had ethics and a basic sense of responsibility, but there you go.
