I'm not perfect. Far from it.

But I haven't told a whole country they must stay at home and then travelled 260 miles myself just in case I need help from Mummy.

And if, for example, in my job I told some of employees to do something and then couldn't or worse wouldn't do it myself I'd expect my arse to be handed to me on a plate.

And I'd be proud of them for having the guts to point it out as long as it was done correctly.

HarrietM87 · 26/05/2020 15:04

@Lynda07 it’s nice that you’re willing to think his comment was badly phrased rather than a lie to cover his arse.

Let’s say he did have “some eye problems” - he shouldn’t have been driving at all. His wife can drive so she could have driven them. Even if he did absolutely need to do the test drive, he didn’t need to have his wife and son with him, indeed he could have been putting them at risk.

And even if he did absolutely need to have his wife and son with him, they didn’t need to go on a 60 mile round trip to a local beauty spot.

Funny that the trip happened to be on his wife’s birthday. Surely it’s a much more rationale explanation that they decided to have a nice day our??

Helmetbymidnight · 26/05/2020 15:04

the bishops who spoke out about him have received death threats!

now that is horrendous

IamEarthymama · 26/05/2020 15:06

Just saying...

If you were annoyed at Dominic Cummings before
Iamagree · 26/05/2020 15:08

Surely if he had any integrity he would have said, "Look, I have clearly caused a huge embarrassment to the government and misjudged in my actions, so to put an end to the speculation and distraction, and because I have no mandate because I am unelected and making all kinds of shady untendered deals linked to track & trace and the NHS
and allow The Right Hon De Pfeffel Johnson to lead the country as his sense of duty dictates, I feel it only right I should resign"

Mittens030869 · 26/05/2020 15:08

I do find it worrying that people are now deliberately breaking the rules as an act of complaint against Cummings. Yes he was wrong and shouldn't have got away with it, but risking another spike in the virus won't impact on him personally, but it could have serious consequences for vulnerable people.

skeemee · 26/05/2020 15:12

He’s lying. He knows we know he is lying. He’s not bothered. I wish BJ would sack him, but he won’t. I’m angry at this govt.

Also, when he scurried home to tend to his ill wife, he returned to work that evening. WTF? If they both genuinely suspected Covid, this is ridiculous. The whole story is lies. They fancied an Easter break away up in lovely Durham in the sunshine.

Made a big deal that he checked with medical advisors before returning to work. Why did he not do this before choosing to make the completely ridiculous journey to get to his holiday home? I suggest he would have been advised to follow the guidelines and “stay home”.

FliesandPies · 26/05/2020 15:13

if he had any integrity

You've answered your own question there lamagree, and De Piffle Johnson doesn't know the meaning of the word.

IntermittentParps · 26/05/2020 15:14

Why did he not do this before choosing to make the completely ridiculous journey to get to his holiday home?
Yeah, he didn't have an answer to that, did he? And no one really pushed him on it.

AnnieGetYerGun · 26/05/2020 15:15

@Iamagree

Absolutely! If he had a shred of decency he would have issued a statement saying just this and then scuttled off to lick his wounds in Barnard bloody castle, NOT called the national media to the garden of No.10 for a great, big ‘it’s all about me and how reasonably and legally I acted’ shitshow.

He’s not just an ego-driven liar, he’s also not quite as bright as he thinks he is.

SabrinaThwaite · 26/05/2020 15:18

@IamEarthymama

No that isn’t Cummings’ sister and Idox isn’t the company doing the track and test app.

Michelleoftheresistance · 26/05/2020 15:19

the bishops who spoke out about him have received death threats!

Which has become fashionable because of police and govt shrugging vaguely when males have done this to women. So now it's happening to anyone saying anything a certain kind of muppet disagrees with.

Police and CPS need to stamp on it hard and make it something no one wants to risk being caught doing. Like they need to make sure poor Mr Cummings isn't experiencing security issues around his house necessitating his taking Covid 19 for a stroll around Durham. A lot. You'd think the chief spad and right hand of the PM could get a copper out to keep an eye on things if feeling that fragile.

SabrinaThwaite · 26/05/2020 15:19

*track and trace app.

tabulahrasa · 26/05/2020 15:20

“I do find it worrying that people are now deliberately breaking the rules as an act of complaint against Cummings.”

I’m not doing that, but I can kind of understand why people would...

I’m not particularly worried about catching covid, no-one in my house is in a high risk group. But, I complied with staying at home because it was for public health and to protect the NHS from being overwhelmed to try and stop the direst if it as much as possible.

But if the government are now saying they were in fact up for that much interpretation and that’s absolutely fine... then I can see why people are thinking, well fuck it then, me staying in was pointless when the people telling me to stay at hold were off round the country, I might as well not bother

NoMoreReluctantCustodians · 26/05/2020 15:23

Not that far either,Starbucks, thirty miles is nothing when you are out of a city

It's not "nothing" when you're not sure your vision is good enough to be driving Shock

Some people will believe any old shite anything

Mittens030869 · 26/05/2020 15:27

@tabulahrasa

I can understand it, too, but such actions won't hurt Cummings or make him resign. I think he's the sort of person who looks out for number one.

We need to continue to do the right things, not because it's what the government says, but for the sake of public health, and that hasn't changed regardless of what Cummings does or doesn't do.

tabulahrasa · 26/05/2020 15:32

“We need to continue to do the right things, not because it's what the government says, but for the sake of public health, and that hasn't changed regardless of what Cummings does or doesn't do.”

I agree with you.

I just kind of understand people going, well that sacrifice I made was a huge waste of time if someone like him wasn’t even doing it, and the government are agreeing that we can in fact just do our own risk assessments, so stuff it...

Helmetbymidnight · 26/05/2020 15:37

there are many reasons our response to Covid has been so poor, but for me, a big one is our failure to get a trace and track app in place unlike most of the EU and the rest of the world.

Boris and Cummings wanted to 'start from scratch'. They got the company who collected the data for the Leave campaign to build a system - the one currently being trialled in the Isle of white. It doesn't seem to be working well, and as I understand it, will have massive privacy implications because unlike the other apps on the table it is centralized.

I think there is a lot more about this that needs to come out. Why didn't they run with tracing apps that were already working all over the world and instead threw millions at one, run by their friends, that still hasn't worked?

itsgettingweird · 26/05/2020 15:38

Alice Cummings is t his sister!

itsgettingweird · 26/05/2020 15:40

Totally agree mittens. And it also just reaffirms Cummings and Boris theory that we are all just thick anyway and so they can get away with what they want.

TheWordWomanIsTaken · 26/05/2020 15:42

The abuse and fear for his wife and child's security is a big fat red herring. The abuse he has received is current based on his actions and lies.
He was so worried he carried his child out of the house during the fray. Yeah right.
He was so convinced that this would go away that he literally told journalists on Saturday that he did't give a shit how it looked.
Then suddenly he is giving a press conference looking like he's selling raffle tickets for the tombola at a school fayre.
Give us a break. This is not going away.
The utter disdain that he and the blonde flimflam man hold us in is disgusting. The rules were very very clear.
The only crumb of comfort I can take is that the mask has well and truly slipped on dePfeffle Johnson and his lies and inability to lead this country.

itsgettingweird · 26/05/2020 15:45

Plus the fears only appeared when she vomited. He didn't act on them through the correct channels before this and didn't act on them through the correct channels when he states the fears arose.

Plus it was fucking lockdown! Where were these people making him feel threatened. I bet there weren't near his house and certainly weren't travelling around the country.

IntermittentParps · 26/05/2020 15:50

He was so convinced that this would go away that he literally told journalists on Saturday that he did't give a shit how it looked.
Yes, exactly.
May I also congratulate you on the phrase 'the blonde flimflam man' Grin

Helmetbymidnight · 26/05/2020 15:53

yes i know re sister thats a red herring- but we have waited 2/3 mths for a tracking app being designed by the same people who did data mining for the leave campaign, (which some mps are heavily invested in) and it hasnt delivered.

tenlittlecygnets · 26/05/2020 15:58

He is a liar. Haven't rtft but did you see that he doctored a blog he wrote in April 2019 and edited it on 14 May to add info about coronavirus, so he could pretend he had been prescient and had seen it coming? Arrogant twat.

Shame he didn't realise there is a website, WayBack, that can tell when content is added to a website.

And the driving to test his eyes bollocks?? How can someone who is meant to be so bright be so thick?

And ... he clearly was not isolating when he/his wife had symptoms of his dc was bringing him drinks! Bloody stupid, not even following ' keep isolated at home' rules. He cared so much for his dc that he exposed him to Covid. Arsehole.
