To give myself a buzz cut

I am so sick of my hair! It’s very thick, wavy, dry and coarse. It needs Brazilian keratin treatment to look anything like decent. It’s currently short, kind of chin length with grown out layers and a very short fringe. At the moment it is huge, I literally look like I have a lampshade on my head!
It’s dyed dark brown as I am half grey. I’m in my 50’s and have always had quite dramatic haircuts and colours.
Shall I use my sons hair clippers on the longest setting - number 8 and cut it all off for a fresh start? I could see if I like my natural grey then dye it a new colour if I don’t. Another reason I’m toying with this idea is if I like it I can carry on doing it
myelf with the clippers as I don’t think I will be able to afford haircuts if I ever get back to earning!
Any advice or opinions welcome 😅

Well.. I just cut all mine off with hair scissors a few days ago. It is very short! I have wanted to get it to it’s natural colour (grey) for years but lacked the nerve. I hated the roots and the condition of it. It was driving me crazy. I’m glad I did it though the back is a mess. I’ve ordered clippers to do the back again. I’m really quite excited to have it natural for the first time in a very long time. If I don’t like it when it’s grown in a bit I will go back to colouring.

Can I ask which clippers do you have ?

Mines usually very short back and sides- about a 3 or 4 and an inch maybe on top. Would that be an 8?
My hairdresser has begged me not to do it myself. I hate going to the hairdressers, if I could teach dh to do it I would!

Oh wow @FruitPastillesaregood! That must have been fun to do. I'm glad you're pleased I haven't coloured my hair for a few years now and it's nice not always to be worrying about roots showing.

I have Wahl clippers. They're in a nice carry case with eight guards (which I don't use as I go to number zero). In normal circumstances, I get the barber to do it but I've got my hand in a bit now

Oh yes! And it’s the perfect cut now I have a broken arm 😂😂

Currently sporting a grade 2... planning on going to a 1 but husband is unsure and I need him to do it for me 🙂

I won’t be going back to hair again 👍🏻
