To give myself a buzz cut

I am so sick of my hair! It’s very thick, wavy, dry and coarse. It needs Brazilian keratin treatment to look anything like decent. It’s currently short, kind of chin length with grown out layers and a very short fringe. At the moment it is huge, I literally look like I have a lampshade on my head!
It’s dyed dark brown as I am half grey. I’m in my 50’s and have always had quite dramatic haircuts and colours.
Shall I use my sons hair clippers on the longest setting - number 8 and cut it all off for a fresh start? I could see if I like my natural grey then dye it a new colour if I don’t. Another reason I’m toying with this idea is if I like it I can carry on doing it
myelf with the clippers as I don’t think I will be able to afford haircuts if I ever get back to earning!
Any advice or opinions welcome 😅

she now has to wear woolly hats when she goes out as she gets really cold easily now.

I’m taking a bit more care to wear hats when it’s sunny.

I love it and it's so easy. I do look a bit rough without make up now though.

Wow! Thanks for all the replies and encouragement. Everyone one of you who has done it seems to be happy with the results and all who have posted photos look amazing!
I am going for it either tonight or tomorrow night - want to make sure my DS is here to help!

I'd really like to go properly short again ( last time was not long after DS was born so 15 years ago). Unfortunately I am properly fat these days, so am not convinced it'd be a good move until I lose weight....which needs me to quit the lockdown snacking!

I did mine on a number 1. I’m no stranger to a buzz cut mind though and it’s not for everybody.

Go for it! I have had the buzz cut for a year now, so it's nothing new to me, but I'm so glad of it. Especially in the peak of summer!

You won't regret it OP. Looking like Max Wall is not a good look after a few doses of chemo, plus I'd had too many bad hair days to give a shit. You'll save so much time & money, just a quick flannel over in the morning, very little shampoo, conditioner, no curling, straightening, drying, dying, cutting.

I'm loving those short cuts!

I had vv short hair all through late teens and up to early 30s. occasional episodes of longer bobs etc. Like a severe look.

Hair is greying and dyed mid brown- think I've about 2 inches of grey. Very tempted to cut it. But I am waaaay fatter than I was in my 20s - nearly 50 now and really don't want to look like a big potato. I suit a hat though so am teetering....

I did it , I always have pixie and was so fed up .. so got the clippers out and got DH to do it .. This is 8 at the top and 5 back and sides .
Couple of weeks ago now, pink has faded and ill be getting him to do it again in a week or so

This is what it normally looks like when first cut, its much spikier after a few weeks

And maggie is beautiful so anything would suit her 😀
