I sleep with my 2ur old and my dh sleeps in a separate room for now I have heavy periods which means despite wearing maxi pads and tampons combined I’ll always have a heavy night. I leave changing the sheets till my period has finished. Is this skany or ok?

This is something only women with heavy periods would understand. If you don’t leave changing the sheets then you face needing to change the sheets every night (sometimes two or three times). Just leave them until it’s finished. A bit of period blood isn’t going to kill anyone.

VenusTiger · 25/05/2020 21:12

You poor woman having to wear all that to bed. Would a form of Tena (or equivalent) type of underwear (bit like a nappy Blush ) work?

WombatChocolate · 25/05/2020 21:13

Is your mattress stained too? Sounds like it might be.

Sorry to hear how tricky it all is. No return to Doctor and really emphasise how this is having a major negative impact on your life.

I don't think leaving a big patch when you share the bed with a child is very pleasant or clean. I can understand you are exhausted by bed changing, but all the mat and towel suggestions are good ones.

Hope the doctor can help you.

mushroom3 · 25/05/2020 21:13

I use a dark fluffy towel that I can throw in the wash without having to change my sheets

Fucktacula · 25/05/2020 21:13

If it was just you, then do whatever you want, but I think it's really disgusting to force your child to sleep in period stained sheets.

enidblyton33 · 25/05/2020 21:14

Have you tried a menstrual cup? Keeps the clots ‘contained’. Also taking a high dose of ibuprofen really reduces flow.

maddening · 25/05/2020 21:14

Could you wear a mega pair of tena knickers with a fuck off massive night-time pad in that? In addition to the super tampon?

Lovemusic33 · 25/05/2020 21:14

OP, I do the same (but I sleep alone), my periods are really heavy, I get up 3 or 4 times in the night to change and wear shorts but I still get spots on the bedding, I’m usually only heavy for 2 nights so I wait to change bedding.

EdinburghFirstTimer · 25/05/2020 21:16

That’s really not nice for your two year old to sleep on

Wuku period pants are the best. They have the biggest absorbent area.
And soak sheets in cold salt water to help sort blood stain out.

Oysterbabe · 25/05/2020 21:22

Yes that's skanky. Sleep on a towel or one of those puppy training pads. Have you tried a mooncup?

LordOftheRingz · 25/05/2020 21:23

Try jumbo re usable, they stop me spilling out.

Jboure · 25/05/2020 21:26

I use a moon cup and sanitary towels. I get up in the middle of the night to empty. I also sleep on double over bath towels. I still often stain the sheets but only every other period now so not too bad to wash the next morning

Tootletum · 25/05/2020 21:27

I used to do the towel thing too. Worked fine but it wasn't that much of a mess. Can see why you can't be arsed changing every day though, just too much washing.

scheffsm · 25/05/2020 21:29

That's really unpleasant for you.
It's a total pain having to wash sheets every day.
I used to have very heavy periods and I always slept on a towel and then I could wash the towel every day and put a new one on the bed.

SharonasCorona · 25/05/2020 21:29

This is something only women with heavy periods would understand.

@GrumpyHoonMain if something isn’t working change it. It’s much easier to change an absorbent pad then your sheets and mattress price for. Hence I use a washable bed pad.

Someone1987 · 25/05/2020 21:32

I used to always leak and wreck many, many sheets. Now I sleep on a towel Blush

lightsoul · 25/05/2020 21:33

I agree with those who recommend a mooncup it made all the difference for me. with pads and period pants should do the trick.

Supersimkin2 · 25/05/2020 21:34

Stop judging folks, OP probs feels so ill wasting energy on non-essential housework ain't a good idea. It's not a health hazard.

Sainsbury's and Tesco both do dark blue bottom sheets. Put two on. Whip one off after the always-awful Second Night.

Sweetmayday · 25/05/2020 21:35

I have heavy periods and take ponstin which helps. I used to wear maxi pads when they are very heavy but I found using Tena far better because it absorbs more and the way the sides are helps to stop leaks.

Onesnowynight · 25/05/2020 21:35

I couldn’t sorry. I stripped the sheets yesterday as some semen was on there after sex. Disappeared when wiped, but I couldn’t sleep on it. Each to their own.

Pinkypink · 25/05/2020 21:36

I had heavy periods and actually slept with a nappy inside my knickers. Have a stash left over and no plans for more kids.
Used it on the first few nights when I was heaviest. Was the only way to avoid leaking. I know it's gross and very unglam but really helped

user1468863258 · 25/05/2020 21:37

I have been using adult tena pants and it's been revolutionary! So comfortable and leak proof. Bought them for after birth recovery and now use them on my heavy period nights.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 25/05/2020 21:37

I understand what it's like but try sleeping on a towel/ puppy pad / etc etc
Have you tried any medication for this ? I've recently been put on mefanamic acid for the same problem and its helped a lot.
You have my sympathies OP, especially if you are experiencing pain with it too. Flowers
