Is it rough to leave period stairned sheets?

I sleep with my 2ur old and my dh sleeps in a separate room for now I have heavy periods which means despite wearing maxi pads and tampons combined I’ll always have a heavy night. I leave changing the sheets till my period has finished. Is this skany or ok?

It is horrible. How can you expect other people to lay in your bodily fluids? Before you begin another post, it is also disgusting to use poo or urine stained sheets on the bed.

Shineonyou · 25/05/2020 22:10

Have you seen your GP/doctor about the heavy bleeding? Could be an underlying condition that can be managed. There is a drug (non hormonal) to help reduce menstrual bleeding.

rosiejaune · 25/05/2020 22:12

If you consume dairy, you might find not doing so makes a difference to how heavy your bleeding is, as it has hormonal effects.

onesmalldog · 25/05/2020 22:17

I would just have to change them, I wouldn't be able to rest.

Innitogether · 25/05/2020 22:19

The mirena coil might help (unless you’re ttc) I’ve had it for menopause and it stopped my heavy periods completely. I wish I’d have had one fitted years ago.

Beamur · 25/05/2020 22:22

I've been thinking about getting some period pants to wear at night alongside the tampons as I have a tendency to leak at night.
It's a pain but I have to get up at least once in the in night to change. I couldn't sleep on stained sheets though - the washable pads or towels seems like a good suggestion to me..

Quackersandcheese3 · 25/05/2020 22:22

Maybe if it’s just a little i would spot clean with cold water and salt to remove stain . But if it’s quite a large mark I’d just wash them probably. Fucking periods!

Daffy2020 · 25/05/2020 22:22

That must be murder to get the stains out after a cycle. I have always had heavy periods (diagnosed with endo 2 years ago have had surgery to remove some and didn’t help much). I normally sleep with a towel under me on top of the bedsheets and wash it in the morning, after the first 2/3 nights they lessen for me.

Daffy2020 · 25/05/2020 22:24

norethisterone? I don’t think u can use that long term

Daffy2020 · 25/05/2020 22:26

Tranexamic avid could help! I took that for a bit. I’m pregnant atm so don’t have to worry about periods Grin

mathanxiety · 25/05/2020 22:27

The 2 yo is presumably sleeping in a sodden nappy, so I think concern for him or her is misplaced. They are not necessarily going to see the blood either.

Get a few big flat sheets, fold them a few times so they have several layers, and lay them on top of your fitted sheet, as Northernsoullover advises. You can rinse out the blood from each flat sheet every morning and put a new one on the bed each day until you are out of the woods. Then do a big sheet wash every few days. You can buy cheap flat sheets online.

Tena pants can absorb about a litre so that might be an option too?

I would go back to your doctor and persist in getting some solution. You should have your iron levels checked too.

No judgement here - you deserve sympathy Flowers Wine

grey12 · 25/05/2020 22:29

Serious question: do you bleed through big pads more than one day in your period??
You really need to see your doctor!

TimeWastingButFun · 25/05/2020 22:30

That is pretty gross, tbh! Can you not wear extra pads, put some up the back of your pants? Why would you not change the sheets??

Insideout99 · 25/05/2020 22:32

Yes it's skanky. I do it too. 🤷‍♀️ I get heavy periods. Most nights I wear two pads (length ways) and then two pairs of underwear to keep everything firm fitting. I set alarms in the middle of the night to change. Sometimes it's not enough. My sheets have never stained from leaving it a day or two.

eurochick · 25/05/2020 22:37

It's pretty skanky. If you are too exhausted to change bed linen during your period, can you layer up beforehand? Incopad/sheet/incopad/sheet, etc. Then just whip the stained ones off to wash when you have the energy.

FergusSingsTheBlues · 25/05/2020 22:37

Hydrogen peroxide will get rid of it very fast

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 25/05/2020 22:39

I’m on the mini pill now so either have no period or just a bloody discharge, but when my periods were really heavy I often bled through. I would change the sheets in the morning, but no, I wasn’t stripping the bed (with DP in it) at 3am. I just changed myself, and slept on a navy towel for the rest of the night.

The navy towel has been re-purposed as my hair dyeing towel now.

Areyouhavingapoomum · 25/05/2020 22:39

I couldn't. I hate the smell and stain. Personal choice, but not my thing

ChilliCheese123 · 25/05/2020 22:40

A small spot I leave

Anything bigger than 50p piece I’d change

I sleep on a towel the first one or two nights of my period

Flixsfoilball · 25/05/2020 22:40

This is going to sound weird (but I have the same issue, and found sleeping on a towel really uncomfortable) try puppy pads - the things you put down for puppies to pee on while they are training, sleep on one of those and chuck it in the morning if there has been leakage

greathat · 25/05/2020 22:41

I used to leak then I got reusable night pads from honouryourflow. They are brilliant. You should give one a try

peperethecat · 25/05/2020 22:41

Blood stains should always be washed out straight away if you don't want the stain to set. There's also a risk of it going through the sheets and staining the mattress, plus you'll get that horrible raw steak smell if you leave it.

Can you get some period pants which have slightly tight seams and wear those as well as a pad and your tampon at night?

If you're bleeding so heavily that you can't find a way of not soaking your sheets then I would see a doctor. It must be really debilitating.

snowybean · 25/05/2020 22:42

I would put an absorbent maternity mat down under the fitted sheet (sleeping on one is boring) and just reside to the fact you'll have a bloodstained fitted sheet. Just use the same sheet for the week you have your period, and change the maternity mat every day.

DancyNancy · 25/05/2020 22:42

You poor thing. That's such a thing to deal with every month. I've been doubling up on pads and undies for my couple of heavy days. Usually don't leak on to sheets but would onto pyjamas. And that's annoying enough.

I think the folded flat sheet under you is a good idea. That's quite a large amount of blood. Whip it off and wash daily if you can manage it. I feel for you. Hope you get some relief from that soon. Hugs xx

www.honouryourflow.co.uk/night-pads-10-c.asp Get these. Changed my life for the better. Used to not be able to sleep at night if we went away
