Is it rough to leave period stairned sheets?

I sleep with my 2ur old and my dh sleeps in a separate room for now I have heavy periods which means despite wearing maxi pads and tampons combined I’ll always have a heavy night. I leave changing the sheets till my period has finished. Is this skany or ok?

I wouldn't be able to, just because id be thinking of the stain becoming more deeply ingrained every night! An absorbent pad or sheet protector?

Gammeldragz · 25/05/2020 20:55

I'll leave for a day or two if it's a small amount and I'm still heavy. Though now I've changed to reusable towels and they don't leak Wink
I have a mattress protector, which I can wash and sheets always come out white again.

BeneathTheMilkyTwilight · 25/05/2020 20:56

Small patches I wouldn't worry about. If it's a big patch I think best to change.
I'm sorry you're having trouble with this, it sounds very difficult.

Foobydoo · 25/05/2020 20:57

If it is a slight mark I leave it until my period has finished. I would wash straight away for a larger stain.
I wash my sheets once a week and hate it if af comes the day after I have changed the bed.

SharonasCorona · 25/05/2020 20:57

YANBU, but why don’t you buy a large absorbent incontinence pad on eBay? It will save your sheets, mattress protector and mattress and you can bleach it as it’s white.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 25/05/2020 20:57

Leaving a 30x30cm stain is grim, for both of you. Did the doctor understand how heavy these periods are?

Shadeslayer · 25/05/2020 20:58

You could get period pants or tenna pants for over or sleep with disposable mats. It's really horrible for your child to sleep on dirty sheets. Maybe if you were alone but I wouldn't expect anyone else to sleep in my body fluids.

Runmybathforme · 25/05/2020 20:58

Are you serious ? Disgusting.

speakout · 25/05/2020 20:58

You must have a great washing machine OP. Doesn't the blood stain if left for such a long time?
You can buy waterproof bed pads, the size of a small towel, either disposable or washable, would be far less trouble than washing a sheet, just put a fresh pad on the bed and take off in the morning- wash or dispose of- far easier than dealing with a sheet.

I wouldn't want to sleep on a blood stained sheet.

SummerDayWinterEvenings · 25/05/2020 20:59

Mine are ridiculous. That heavy see your GP. I did was on meds for years to shorten them and make them lighter and it worked.

cologne4711 · 25/05/2020 20:59

I sleep on a towel on my heavy days. If it moves in the night and I leak onto the sheet anyway, if there's just a tiny mark I leave it but if it's worse I will take the sheet off to wash.

msmith501 · 25/05/2020 20:59

Pop a thick soft towel underneath you.

Rabblemum · 25/05/2020 21:00

Change the sheets, it could be a health hazard. I used to sleep an old bath towel to soak the worst up. Also see your doctor, there may be something you can do to make your periods lighter, I take pills that lighten the flow.

OtterBe4 · 25/05/2020 21:02

Is it not going through to the mattress?Maybe lie on a towel rather than stain the bedding/mattress?

Cremebrule · 25/05/2020 21:02

I used to leak badly when I was younger and I do have sympathy but a 30cm2 patch for a week is not nice, especially if your toddler sleeps with you. It must be an absolute bugger to get out by then too. I am on the slattern end of the spectrum so I think it is quite bad- sorry! Could you try maternity pads at night? I’d also say period blood does smell quite distinctive for me so even if you can’t smell it, you might have just got used to it.
used to it.

Zaphodsotherhead · 25/05/2020 21:03

I'm post meno now, but I used to use two super + tampons at the same time (works if you insert both simultaneously), a maternity pad and lie on a towel and I'd still have to get up and change in the night.

But I couldn't sleep on stained sheets, so if it was any more than a few dots of blood I'd have to change them. I wouldn't call you skanky (your bed, your rules) but I LOVE the feel of clean sheets and hate that 'stiff' feel you get when blood dries out.

IAmReportingYouForBBQing · 25/05/2020 21:04

Op, I was going through the same thing and bled through tampons withon 15 minutes. I swapped to a super jenny menstrual cup, the biggest you can get and it meant that I only had to get up once a night between 11-7 to change it. It was game changing. Eventually it truned out that I had a very small, tiny, fibroid that didnt show up on the scan bit did on the camera thing. But that fibroid meant that at the worst point i was loosing 45-700ml of blood a week. And my longest period was 17 weeks before I snapped and made the gp take me seriously. I was seriously aneamic, low on eveyrthing and borderline suicidal as i was tied to the house even with the jenny cup. In the day time it was much heavier and I couldnt even leave the house for more than 50-90 minutes. I really hope you get it sorted. Its bloody horrible.

As for the sheets, Ive been there and done that. I would always get up to try and change them but between crying and being exhausted my husband just put towels down and cuddled me until I went back to sleep. After seeing about how he cared more about me feeling better and didnt give a shit about a bit of blood I would leave it for the night. Then it got to two or three nights. I would change the towels / incontinence pads daily but if any had gone through to the sheets/protector it became a once a week thing. It was middle of winter and my 4 kids clothes and towels and weekly bedding were priority for washing and drying. Fresh King size sheets every day for me were a luxury I couldnt afford and didnt have the energy for due to other serious health issues. I do not judge at all. You do whatever you need to do to get through it and retain your sanity.

Candyfloss99 · 25/05/2020 21:06

Get a cup and period pants or just period pants to wear with tampon and pad.

SharonasCorona · 25/05/2020 21:07

I hate other people’s period blood. If someone leaves blood in the guest room sheets I get squicked out.

rosydreams · 25/05/2020 21:07

home bargains sell absorbent bed pads in the baby section.Really good for leaky boobs and heavy periods

mrwalkensir · 25/05/2020 21:08

worth trying tranexamic acid again? You must be permanently anaemic xx

cologne4711 · 25/05/2020 21:08

Blimey I just looked at the period pants www.modibodi.co.uk/collections/heavy-overnight-absorbency/products/classic-boyshort. 4 teaspoons = heavy? Are they having a laugh? I am obviously way heavier than I thought I was. Reading stuff on here I thought I was moaning a bit over nothing as I don't need to double up or anything but I do need to change twice in a night on my heaviest night. They wouldn't last the night.

Badassmama · 25/05/2020 21:09

Mooncup + period pants is the ultimate combo here, I used to flood multiple times every period no matter how often I changed tampon and towels.

Isawamagpie · 25/05/2020 21:10

Get a cup and reusable pads as back up.

As for you sheets, well - I'm not sleeping in the stained sheets. You are.
So is it skanky?... who cares.
You are the one sleeping on the stains? For this case YANBU only you can decide if you care?

Now ask me to sleep in your period stained sheets and I will 100% tell you YABU, You big skanky trampWink

(BTW, I can be pretty 'skanky' at times, so no judgement here!)
