I sleep with my 2ur old and my dh sleeps in a separate room for now I have heavy periods which means despite wearing maxi pads and tampons combined I’ll always have a heavy night. I leave changing the sheets till my period has finished. Is this skany or ok?

Like a small ruler

Sleep on a towel as others have suggested.
A tiny bit wouldn't bother me I don't think but a patch of blood is pretty horrible to leave and will set into the sheet.
Have you tried the mini pill?

Lostvoiced · 25/05/2020 20:46

I tend to bleed through a lot.
Non period me likes to only sleep in underwear, but on period it's underwear, PJ trousers and if it's really heavy a towel underneath.

I have left a dot or two if I haven't been arsed to do the sheets, but I realise it's a bit gross.

"Luckily", and I use that loosely, my DP is prone to nosebleeds so he can hardly point fingers where blood stains are concerned.

MoonBaby1 · 25/05/2020 20:47

I’ve tried the mini bit any e tea progesterone does not agree with me. Also I’m still bf the 2 yr old I co sleep with.

I always have at least one leak as my periods are heavy due to adenomyosis. Normally just a bit like a few drops. I always leave it until I'm done on my period. My period is normally 4 days and it wouldn't tend to happen on 1st day so I'm leaving 2 nights at most. Tbh i think it's redic and wasteful to wash sheets for a few spots of blood. It doesn't smell like urine it's totally different. People are very ott about this.

AbsentmindedWoman · 25/05/2020 20:48

I really don't think a small stain from her mother's period is a health hazard for a toddler Hmm

I mean how much blood are we talking about?

MoonBaby1 · 25/05/2020 20:49

My periods always done by about a week and of course I change the sheets then.

@MoonBaby1 I had an laparoscopy for endometriosis. I dont have it and was sent away told just bad luck go back to one of the contraceptives that already hasnt worked for years.

I left it for another year in absolute hell went back to my doc got referred for an MRI and another gynae and was diagnosed with adenomyosis and am having a full hysterectomy because it is so bad.

Get a second opinion. Heavy periods dont have to be put up with when they if they really negatively impact your life.

Sevo7 · 25/05/2020 20:50

I’m a complete slattern, I usually only change my bedding every 3 weeks and even I think that’s bad. I don’t think I could get in bed and relax knowing it’s there tbh.

I second a towel plus absorbent mat underneath.

justhereforthetips · 25/05/2020 20:50

30cm squared really is a large patch of blood. I couldn't leave that.
I suffer from heavy periods / flooding too op (when I'm not pg or on mini pill) so I do sympathise.

joystir59 · 25/05/2020 20:51

Can't you get some kind of big nappy to wear such as an incontinence type of thing to prevent heavy flow staining your sheets

Scuzzymummy · 25/05/2020 20:51

Period pants on a night have been an absolute game changer for me. I can highly recommend them

justhereforthetips · 25/05/2020 20:51

Ooh actually a tampon, maxi pad and period pants might be the answer here op.

MoonBaby1 · 25/05/2020 20:52

Thank you maybe it’s been about 10yrs since my lap and dye and I’ve had various treatments like triexemic acid (sp) to help but no good. I’ll pursue.

crispysausagerolls · 25/05/2020 20:52

I think that’s far too much blood to leave, sorry. And I’m usually pretty laid back re that sort of thing!

Praiseyou · 25/05/2020 20:52

I used to have horrendous periods, very large clots.

I had to sleep on towels or otherwise the mattress would stain. I would change the sheets if they were soiled.

Tampons are useless for clots; I always found it better to double up on pads when I was clotting. Tampons are fine for normal bleeding but I always found it better to allow the clot to flow freely so to speak and then get rid quickly.

Nottherealslimshady · 25/05/2020 20:52

Well I'm clearly a tramp. I do leave period stains. I also dont care if the stains last even in underwear.
Although, a stain that big, is it going through to the mattress? That wont dry and will go manky

WombOfOnesOwn · 25/05/2020 20:53

I'm also an utter slattern and would not be able to deal with this, sorry.

doughnutmuffin · 25/05/2020 20:53

I would try the period pants alongside tampon and maxi pad, and the square pads you get from the hospital, the ones that are like puppy pads, throw a few down then you can just bin them if anything leaks through

MoonBaby1 · 25/05/2020 20:53

I am truly a slattern and will leave it here now! Lots of good ideas though.

converseandjeans · 25/05/2020 20:53

I wouldn't leave sheets on tbh. I started to get this & went on pill & it's sorted out.

Could you wear period pants - only found out recently they exist

www.modibodi.co.uk/collections/underpants

Also could you use say navy sheets which wouldn't show up?

Sleep on a towel?

Batshittery · 25/05/2020 20:53

Skanky

BadgerFace · 25/05/2020 20:54

Your sheets, your call. I would wash mainly to try and stop the blood staining.

Off topic but in case it’s helpful, primrose oil capsules have massively helped my heavier periods post-kids. A friend recommended them and they have made my periods much lighter and more regular (28-ish days rather than 32-38).

Northernsoullover · 25/05/2020 20:54

When you get your period you could do the layered bed trick. Put on normal sheet. Then fold a flat sheet over the top width ways so its under the area that gets stained When you need to change it just whip it off and put a new one on. Much less faff than changing the whole bottom sheet.
