A lot of this time has been great and a real eye opener as to how many material things we don’t need. But I’m really struggling now and feel like a treat, money’s tight but I’ve spent way less than usual, so looking for an idea on a bit of a treat. What have you bought that’s made you smile?

A parrot!

Plus lots of Lego

SomeBunnyovertheRainbow · 26/05/2020 14:05

What do you think to the weighted blanket?

I am curious about them.

Rosspoldarkssaddle · 26/05/2020 14:39

A few tops and trews to replace my ridiculously old work stuff that I am too fat to wear
A new sewing machine that has taken me 30 years to get round to. This does all sorts of useful things that my hands don't any more.
Couple of kindle books
A sundress

Desperately seeking new tongs for kitchen as others got melted and going for those socks as feet falling apart.

Stuckinarut79 · 26/05/2020 20:05

Thanks all, a few ideas
I’ve gone for some gel moisturising socks, while looking found some support ones for platear facsitis as I’ve been suffering and got good reviews. I ordered some posh chocs and bought a hotel of gin! Also a couple of recommended kids books from a thread on children’s books you found emotional!
I really want a Nintendo switch but can’t find one! Though probably out of budget anyway but may have saved by the time I find one in stock! Did look at lego, I’m a bit tempted!

A hotel of gin?!

All sounds lovely OP

LumaLou · 26/05/2020 21:04

A new duvet cover. Face masks ( skincare ones). Two pairs of summer trousers. Too much wine! WineSmile

ViciousJackdaw · 26/05/2020 23:16

I've just bought a pressure washer and I'll collect it tomorrow. I can't wait to get blasting things with it!

Bauble74 · 26/05/2020 23:20

a pond
Plants
Scooter for DS
Expensive facial stuff
A necklace
Sewing subscription
BritBox subscription
Exercise bike
Treadmill
Swing
Paddling pool
I need to stop now!

Clockworkprincess · 27/05/2020 00:19

Ive bought sports wear and some casual home clothes as i had nothing for lazing around in. A new shade of hair dye as i was looking scruffy. Garden stuff for ds to keep him out of my hair

NewtonPulsifer · 27/05/2020 01:16

I’ve been buying stuff to reach some of my Pinterest goals:
A laundry folder - best thing ever.
Plants, pots and compost
Festoon solar lights made me ridiculously happy. My garden looks extra special during the evenings and it feels like evenings on holiday.

Sexnotgender · 27/05/2020 08:47

Running gear. 30% off the Nike website until Friday.

I hate running but I need a goal. I’m struggling with lockdown and hoping this helps.

SinkGirl · 28/05/2020 13:17

Almost forgot that the most extravagant thing I’ve bought during lockdown was a £40 steak (for two) - amazing aged Galician ribeye on the bone. Best thing I’ve eaten in years 😂

Anjelika · 28/05/2020 13:37

Great thread! I bought some big buckle Birkenstocks, the Red beauty box (£25 and really enjoying it), running shoes, running shorts, running socks and 2 bandeau sundresses (for holiday this year if we get to go, otherwise will keep for next year). Now eyeing up some Ray-bans and expensive in ear sport headphones but can't really justify either.

ferretface · 28/05/2020 14:45

I have now added:

cheese subscription from the cheese society
some boots i've had my eye on for a while and are now in the sale
a box of kombucha from clever kombucha
some London marathon leggings to commemorate all the training i did even if there's zero prospect of it actually taking place this year

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 28/05/2020 15:00

Wine. A load of skincare from the ordinary and the niod fractionated eye contour stuff. I've turned into a bit of a skincare junkie since hitting 40 and watching my age finally catch up to me 😬

MulberryPeony · 28/05/2020 15:05

DH has just ordered some new Ray-bans. Same as his old ones but a different colour.

I had a bit of a spendy month...

Just had a load of plant pots delivered from anthropologie’s 25% off day. They make my heart sing Daffodil Plants were delivered last week from a local company and might place another order as they have some unusual stuff.

Comfy clothes from H&M sales, a Uniqlo jumpsuit via eBay. A Greek style sundress that was on sale for wafting around the garden in. Clarks summery brogues also from eBay.

A lot of inexpensive beauty bits and bobs although now I’ve totalled them up not so inexpensive after all Blush. I spent way more on beauty than I normally do last month too.

A large box of cakes from the local bakery who are doing deliveries while they can’t open. Purely for altruistic reasons you understand. I strenuously deny having had a retro cornflake tart for breakfast this morning! No correlation between new comfy clothes and bakery boxes, purchased, no sir-ey.

I really want to buy a Nintendo Switch Lite. I used to have a DS back in the day and got a lot of pleasure out of it. I think it would be a brilliant pandemic present for myself to fill spare time and evenings. DH thinks it's a silly waste of money. He's never been into gaming so doesn't get it. I can afford it from my own fun money so it's nothing to do with him really but now I'm dithering 🤔

I love mine, have had it for a while. Dd and I play animal crossing and I like Pokemon too. Great boredom buster
speakout · 31/05/2020 07:55

I don't buy things to cheer myself up.

"Stuff" doesn't do it for me.

I will go for a forest walk, do some writing or drawing, sook some nice food.

Destroyedpeople · 31/05/2020 08:00

I kind of agree @speakout. ...'stuff' doesn't really cut it. Some good company would be better.
But on the other hand things like seeds..plants...compost...these are nice .
because they improve our surroundings
and are therefore cheering.
And if you are into sketching. .don't tell me you wouldn't get a little buzz from a new tin of pencils and a quality sketch book....

FloraGreysteel · 31/05/2020 08:09

I've revamped my balcony with evergreen and flowering plants, a jute rug, solar string lighting, a dark blue velvet beanbag, etc. And I've also been buying and trying new foods: wild boar, for example. And a couple of comfortable jumpsuits for wandering about the streets.

Has anyone tried those M&S flexifit bras I keep seeing ads for? I've got used to no bra...

TooSadToSay · 31/05/2020 08:10

Really good stainless steel lunchboxes! (Hits an from Amazon) and new Klean Kanteen bottles as I can see a lot of picnicking will be happening this summer!

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 31/05/2020 08:14

A nanny.

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 31/05/2020 08:15

@SinkGirl where did you get the steak?

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 31/05/2020 08:23

@Fluffybutter

Lots of craft beer, some nice summer clothes , an amazingly comfortable but lovely looking pair of Sandals and a long awaited new mattress
What were the sandals? I have some Merrells but they are in their last legs and I need inspiration.
