Are those backbench MPs? They only have to refuse to take the whip and voted with the Opposition when they consider it appropriate and Boris's majority is gone.

Peregrina · 26/05/2020 19:33

Allison Pearson - why did it make me think of rats leaving a sinking ship?

Alsohuman · 26/05/2020 19:35

Yes, me too. But if she’s saying it, it’s very bad.

YouTheCat · 26/05/2020 19:41

For the government this has never been about saving lives. It's a travesty.

merrymouse · 26/05/2020 19:44

Even the non covid related details are undermining the government - Michael Gove repeatedly going on TV to defend the reasonableness of checking your eyesight by driving; an important Prime Ministerial announcement at a time of national crisis delayed for a member of staff.

MP replies to emails look very similar

If Allison Pearson is coming out against DC then that's, um, interesting, to say the very least.

Inoneminute · 26/05/2020 20:04

God that's depressing thisenglishlife. Our constituency MPs aren't even brave enough to write their own responses.

mumwon · 26/05/2020 20:07

I think Cummins is admirable -imagine having the foresight to fill your fuel tank before you knew you were infected & likely to need to go 250 miles & couldn't stop -
& reimagining the rules of why you might need to do a trip to Barnard Castle (when your boss forgets/doesn't know that you actually did go out & told everybody that you hadn't the night before) & when other mere mortals were restricted to short drives for walks you needed to practice to check your eyes & risked your family safety in the process, & only did a 15 minute walk & sat on a bench (which other mere mortals were not allowed to do).
Whilst so many other people couldn't be with ill & dying relatives & single parents balanced complex situations by themselves to maintain the rules & others health & nurses & support workers self isolated …
No I am not angry - I am, as they say mn speak - incandescent with rage. It is so unfair

SophieB100 · 26/05/2020 20:07

They asked a doctor on Radio 4 today (sorry, didn't get his name) about the eye sight issue being related to Covid. He said that conjunctivitis was the only symptom that he was aware of in a minority of patients. When asked about driving, he said the obvious - no one should ever drive if they had any issues around sight.

Boris said that he had needed to wear spectacles for the first time for years and he thought it might be Covid related (at the press conference yesterday).
How embarrassing - it's cringeworthy, watching the PM trying to excuse his mate.

ChatBots.com ?

itsgettingweird · 26/05/2020 20:10

Suella Braverman - our attorney general - hasn't even had the politeness to reply to mine.

But the. Again she ignored me 4 years ago when I reached out for help.

But she did send me a leaflet today saying if you have covid symptoms to stay at home.

NoMoreReluctantCustodians · 26/05/2020 20:12

@itsgettingweird pity she didn't tell that to DC Grin

Alsohuman · 26/05/2020 20:19

Boris said that he had needed to wear spectacles for the first time for years and he thought it might be Covid related (at the press conference yesterday)

Except - surprise, surprise - he was lying. He was photographed with a pair of specs about four years ago. And who, in their mid 50s, doesn’t need reading glasses?

PotholeParadise · 26/05/2020 20:21

Boris said that he had needed to wear spectacles for the first time for years and he thought it might be Covid related (at the press conference yesterday).

So now he's claiming to have got a routine eye-test arranged during lockdown?

derxa · 26/05/2020 20:22

Dr Sarah Jarvis bleugh.

itsgettingweird · 26/05/2020 20:23

I've emailed my Mp again. Let's see if she can be bothered to reply this time!

Inoneminute · 26/05/2020 20:26

Maybe she's carefully crafting individual responses rather than copying and pasting what HQ have sent itsgettingweird

itsgettingweird · 26/05/2020 20:27

No more I just asked her in an email if the stay at home with covid symptoms leaflet actually meant that or if there were other instructions I should know about! I've asked her to clarify the actual message and what it actually means. Alongside asking her if as attorney general she supports Cummings and Gove for both admitting they have potentially broken the law by driving when their eyesight may not have been good enough - just to check it was actually safe.

Inoneminute · 26/05/2020 20:28

Well you can see why that response would some require some thought and it was bank holiday Grin

mumwon · 26/05/2020 20:28

small chance with mine - although if he (or his minions) answers me (from past experience) it will be a quote from the party line.

itsgettingweird · 26/05/2020 20:29

In one minute it's Suella! If she does that I'd drop down dead with shock. But I'm happy to wait and give her a chance!

FliesandPies · 26/05/2020 20:29

@HeIenaDove that's so depressingly predictable
