Dominic must be really good Grin

campion · 26/05/2020 17:51

Don't you mean the 'man of the cloth' @SophieB100

Which century is Hancock living in? Twerp.

rosie1959 · 26/05/2020 17:53

I very much doubt anyone has been fined for seeking childcare
And sick of questions on Cummings there are much more important things than one man driving to Durham

itsgettingweird · 26/05/2020 17:53

I wanted Matt Hancock to reply "that's a load of barney castle" to a question.

SophieB100 · 26/05/2020 17:53

He just said that it was the first time he'd been called 'a man of the cloth!@campion

Yes they keep saying "reasonable people will disagree"

Almost admitting those that agree are in fact - unreasonable!

itsgettingweird · 26/05/2020 17:58

  • "Local lockdowns will be part of the future ..."

I think that ship has sailed, Matty boy.

Absolutely. But it doesn't matter if your locality is locked, nah, you just get in your car and bugger off to another county, around 260 miles away to an area unlocked.
Simples.

Grin make sure all your childcare is not local from now on. Register at a closed nursery just for evidence. no bills but a bloody good alibi!

MorrisZapp · 26/05/2020 17:58

Are we going to talk about driving to Durham until there's a cure?

SansaSnark · 26/05/2020 17:59

The person to blame for this dragging on and on is Dominic Cummings.

If he'd apologised and resigned, Boris could have probably sneaked him back in, in a few months time when all of this had died down. Instead, they've tried to front it out and tied themselves in knots and large groups of the public are annoyed (this is emphasized by the numbers writing to MPs about this, including Tory MPs).

The government have lied and obfuscated and arguably undermined the rule of law, and that's why this is dragging on and on.

Yes, it is a problem that it's becoming a distraction from the real issues, but no-one can solve that except Cummings and Johnson.

itsgettingweird · 26/05/2020 18:00

Ah but Rosie. Anyone fined can now say they were interpreting the rules as they thought they were and seeking support just in case they needed it.

The burden of proof is for them to prove the person is lying.

PotholeParadise · 26/05/2020 18:00

Are we going to talk about driving to Durham until there's a cure?

I will caln down about Boris Johnson's behaviour on Sunday when Boris apologises or when Elon Musk personally lands on the moon.

So yes.

merrymouse · 26/05/2020 18:02

Are we going to talk about driving to Durham until there's a cure?

Given that the only strategy the government have to control the virus is test and trace, which relies completely on people self isolating on request - even if it goes against their instincts and is detrimental to their ability to care for others - I think we will be talking about this until the government are prepared to stand up to Cummings.

rosie1959 · 26/05/2020 18:03

itsgettingweird I suspect most fined were the prats out drinking in groups in parks

Alsohuman · 26/05/2020 18:03

I suspect we’ll be talking about it until Cummings resigns or is sacked.

merrymouse · 26/05/2020 18:05

And sick of questions on Cummings there are much more important things than one man driving to Durham

The problem is not that one man drove to Durham, the problem is that the government have trashed their test and trace policy to protect the pride of the one man who drove to Durham.

SophieB100 · 26/05/2020 18:08

This is a thread about the reasonable and unreasonable Cummings and Goings of the PM's bestie @MorrisZapp, so yeah, we'll talk about it for as long as we like Wink

merrymouse the test and trace is about protecting people surely nobody is daft enough to refuse taking part just because of Cummings That would be ridiculous but I suppose some will take that stand But that wont hurt Cummins

Note that the government’s reaction isn’t an expression of shock that people have been fined for doing something that was always permissible. It’s to review fines lawfully levied - i.e. to change the law retrospectively to try to exculpate Dom.

twitter.com/tortoise/status/1265254118635057153 this is interesting re BJ ultimately being responsible for DC

itsgettingweird · 26/05/2020 18:19

Anyone else notice how close they were sat and the person coughing in the room? Oh how this has changed our thinking norms.

Great video though. She is a very engaging speaker.

merrymouse · 26/05/2020 18:24

surely nobody is daft enough to refuse taking part just because of Cummings

The problem is not that people will refuse to take part, but that by supporting Cummings the government has confirmed that you only need to take part as long as it is convenient. For most people it will be very inconvenient.

rosie1959 · 26/05/2020 18:27

merrymouse not as inconvenient as getting covid and passing it on probably to your family because you didn't know you had been near enough to a stranger to catch it

HipTightOnions · 26/05/2020 18:32

not as inconvenient as getting covid and passing it on probably to your family because you didn't know you had been near enough to a stranger to catch it

I think people might be ok with this bit. It’s the “so now isolate for 14 days” they will find inconvenient.

teach1066 · 26/05/2020 18:36

Will they please stop saying ‘reasonable people’ - driving me round the bend.
This story will keep on running because they have not made their policy clear. The government is a shambles - I am embarrassed for this country. How can they enforce anything now to do with this virus?? People will not follow this test and trace now - how can they if the people who are writing the guidelines aren’t following it??Civic duty!!! What planet is Hancock on? They are totally out of touch with public opinion.

rosie1959 · 26/05/2020 18:39

Hiptightonions From what I have seen you can then get a test obviously if negative you can then carry on
But even 14 days is worth it for my family because we shall soon be allowed to meet officially
