To ask if Asda will ever sell flour again?

Gemzee · 25/05/2020 14:09

I have weekly Asda deliveries (delivery pass holder for nearly 2 years) and check every week for plain flour ... nope, none! for weeks & weeks. I know there is a shortage of the bags they come in but surely they could use different bags? Or could the bag company maybe start making more bags?
Lighthearted, and know people have actual problems...... but I really want some flour!!
(Not enough to pay £7 on Ebay though Hmm )

Totally agree OP, got the same issue here, online Asda shopper too.

HourglassTigger · 25/05/2020 14:20

Morrison's have decanted strong white (bread flour) into their own brand (accident waiting to happen flimsy) bakery bags. Shelves packed and looks appealingly wholesome.

HUCKMUCK · 25/05/2020 14:22

I’ve just got some in my local Asda. They are using the plastic bags that fresh bread comes in. Maybe that’s only on sale in store?

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 25/05/2020 14:22

I've given up trying to get it at my local Asda. They struggle with eggs too. Neither of these are a problem at my local Lidl!

yomellamoHelly · 25/05/2020 14:23

We managed to get a tesco delivery yesterday. They had plain flour! Was disproportionately excited.....

tealandteal · 25/05/2020 14:25

We got a big bag direct from the mill, it's massive but it won't go off and I'm baking loads at the moment, bread etc that I never normally have time for.

PhoneLock · 25/05/2020 14:29

We have flour coming out of our ears. I managed to pick up a 10 kg bag in Tesco about three weeks ago, I didn't tell DH and he bought a 16kg sack online, then I discovered all the flour I'd lost while rearranging the kitchen storage months ago. Now I notice that the village shop has all kinds of different flour in stock. Heaps of it.

black768 · 25/05/2020 14:31

We have no problem at Tesco and Home bargains. Maybe worth asking if anyone going can pick it up and leave it at your door for you?

Karmagician · 25/05/2020 14:31

Yeah I'd try the small local shops perhaps or I also found some in the local M & S the other day.

PeppermintSoda · 25/05/2020 14:31

That's funny. I always order self raising and strong bread flour from Tesco but it gets subbed with plain flour. I can turn plain into SR as i have some baking powder and i may try making bread with strong flour mixed with plain, even though it'll be a bit flat

Lsquiggles · 25/05/2020 14:33

I was shocked to see my local sainsburys had flour yesterday, it actually made me do a double take as the shelves have been bare since the start of lockdown

Footywife · 25/05/2020 14:33

If tv programmes stopped encouraging people to make their own bread (which is totally unnecessary as bread hasn't been hard to get) and other stupid recipes involving a variety of ridiculous ingredients then we'd all be ok.

Bellesavage · 25/05/2020 14:34

We have flour but struggling to get icing sugar and DD birthday is in less than two week and she has allergies so can't have shop bought cakes!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 25/05/2020 14:35

My local Aldi always have flour if there's one near you. Plain and self raising.

Laaalaaaa · 25/05/2020 14:38

I’ve bought flour in both Tesco and Asda over the last 2 weeks or so. At one point Tesco even had 14 kilo bags of the stuff.

GreenTulips · 25/05/2020 14:39

Icing sugar is just sugar ground finely

Do you have a food processor to make your own?

KatherineJaneway · 25/05/2020 14:41

Managed to get some bread flour and yeast from Waitrose. Flour is hard to come by round here.

OddestSock · 25/05/2020 14:41

We got plain, bread and SR flour in big bags from a local mill. If only they had icing sugar too!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 25/05/2020 14:45

Normal sized bags of all flours have been on shelves for a couple of weeks! All shops as far a I can tell.

I've been buying for neighbours and stopped when they got delivery slots and restocked. Flour was the last thing I was going to multiple shops for!

Wonder if it is regional or an online difference?

If you think it's unnecessary to bake stuff at home then how is a shortage of flour a problem for you?

Rosieposy4 · 25/05/2020 14:49

Virtually none round here, I have flour but Most times in a variety of supermarkets ( co op, aldi, Sainsburys no flour) did manage to get one of the decanted bags in Morrisons but they only have had once when I have been

Blackredblack · 25/05/2020 14:56

WoollyMammouth · 25/05/2020 15:02

I got flour from my local newsagents. Some bakery’s are also selling it.

Tesco was stocked with flour again when I last went.
