To ask if Asda will ever sell flour again?

Gemzee · 25/05/2020 14:09

I have weekly Asda deliveries (delivery pass holder for nearly 2 years) and check every week for plain flour ... nope, none! for weeks & weeks. I know there is a shortage of the bags they come in but surely they could use different bags? Or could the bag company maybe start making more bags?
Lighthearted, and know people have actual problems...... but I really want some flour!!
(Not enough to pay £7 on Ebay though Hmm )

Couldn't tell the difference

Caster sugar is just finer sugar
Icing sugar is finer still

You can make both with a blender

If you want to make a light cake put the butter and sugar together in a bowl of hot water to melt them together before adding the eggs and flour

That’s not much help if you’re north of Leicester, though...

Zoey92 · 25/05/2020 18:48

Morrisons have always had it in.
Not quite sure what your local will be like obviously everywhere is different

filka · 25/05/2020 18:54

@Bellesavage for icing sugar just put ordinary granulated sugar in the liquidiser/blender.

DimplesToadfoot · 25/05/2020 18:54

Yes :-)

I have some coming in my order due this evening, they've subbed one for another but I really don't care lol

ekidmxcl · 25/05/2020 19:08

It’s coming back. Last week I got a small bag of plain and a small bag of self raising. Both in the usual paper packaging.

WeWantSweet · 25/05/2020 20:03

I've seen packets of Plain flour on the shelves now. Just add baking powder, if you've got it?

bridgetreilly · 25/05/2020 20:07

People with large sacks, just be aware that it doesn't last forever. It may not go off, but it can certainly develop weevils. It'll last for a good while, but not years and years. Make sure you use it!

I ordered a mixed box from thefoodboxuk.co.uk
The box I had you could choose 8 items from a variety of flours and sugars.
I ordered 2x plain flour, 2x SR flour, caster sugar, 2 x icing sugar, 1 x brown sugar and it came with a pack of cocoa power they had chucked in.
It can within about 3 days I think and was about £20, so more expensive than buying in the shops but not extortionate.
I’d slowly depleted by baking stocks during lockdown so was very happy to find somewhere to replace it without having to buy huge bags!!

Glittertwins · 25/05/2020 20:16

I got baking powder online from amazon as I just couldn't get any at the supermarkets. Tesco has no eggs but Asda and the butchers do. Saw Asda have started to sell decanted flour in the last week or so. I'm now struggling for dark brown sugar!

Yellowbutterfly1 · 25/05/2020 20:17

I can get flour now, it’s the shortage of dried yeast I’m having trouble with.

buggeroffvirus · 25/05/2020 20:17

Aldi had self raising last week, I got two bags and gave one to my daughter.

TinkysWinky · 25/05/2020 20:34

I think where it says out of stock online for some items, they actually are in stock in store in small numbers - eg got frustrated doing up a sainsburys click and collect one morning as so many things 'out of stock' (flour included) - physically went in that afternoon instead of placing the order and the majority of supposedly out of stock items were there (albeit in smallish quantities) - plain, self raising and bread flour, baking powder, sugar, eggs - no yeast or vanilla mind you. Might be worth checking instore or asking someone who is going instore to keep an eye for you

Kindlingwood · 25/05/2020 20:38

Our local Aldi’s have all got flour and icing sugar.

Phifedean123 · 25/05/2020 20:39

Absolutely loads in aldi the other day!

Serin · 25/05/2020 21:09

No vanilla extract here at all.
Felt like I'd won the lottery when my sister posted me 2 bottles.

Legoandloldolls · 25/05/2020 21:10

Our Asda had flour for sale in the bread isle in loose bread plastic bags

MinorArcana · 25/05/2020 21:14

Flour is starting to come back in the shops round here.

My local co-op had both plain and self raising flour on the shelves last week, and the nearby big Sainsbury’s had several varieties of bread flour on the shelves yesterday.
Not full shelves either time, but it’s the first time I’ve seen any flour at all in the shops since lockdown started.

dementedma · 25/05/2020 21:15

Aldi have it. Buy some every week

JacobReesMogadishu · 25/05/2020 21:19

I think the bags must be coming available again because plain flour has become available again At most shops locally. Hopefully this filters out uk wide.
