To ask if Asda will ever sell flour again?

Gemzee · 25/05/2020 14:09

I have weekly Asda deliveries (delivery pass holder for nearly 2 years) and check every week for plain flour ... nope, none! for weeks & weeks. I know there is a shortage of the bags they come in but surely they could use different bags? Or could the bag company maybe start making more bags?
Lighthearted, and know people have actual problems...... but I really want some flour!!
(Not enough to pay £7 on Ebay though Hmm )

My local Asda has had flour in every time I've been in since April.

Shitfuckoh · 25/05/2020 15:05

I always check through out the day on ASDA & if it's available I amend my order & add it to itv (after 8pm seems a good time, or very early morning) If I do amend it again, then it sometimes removes it as 'out of stock' but last time I didn't need to amend the order again. I didn't get the flour I ordered & my email just said 'White flour'.
When it arrived, it was plain flour (which I'd ordered) but in a bakery bag & weighed out as opposed prepacked.

Have a teenager doing the picking as our local Asda, they are picking before the deliveries arrive. So basically the day before stock. So whilst there are plenty of eggs, flour and fresh bakery for in store shoppers not so much for C&C and delivery.

I finally got some SR three weeks ago. A lovely lady on the tills in Tesco told me they got a delivery in the morning but it sold out very fast. So I went for opening time and there were about a dozen bags.

Last week I managed to get plain and bread flour plus yeast! Same thing, a very sparse shelf at 8.30am.

SharonasCorona · 25/05/2020 15:06

My local has started selling plain bags of white flour, with no real branding, just the price and Asda name.

HaddawayAndShite · 25/05/2020 16:37

Got Homepride flour from Asda last week, Ordered their own brand (was all that was available when I checked out online click and collect) but when I went to collect it was subbed for Homepride.

Thanks all, small local shops don't have it unfortunately and I don't want to visit a supermarket just for flour (it is literally the only thing I'm unable to get hold of). I only use it to make pasta, dumplings and put in some sauces so it isn't urgent (have dried pasta and dumpling mix) but I just find it so annoying!
Think I'm the only person not baking Grin

My local Aldi is fully stocked now most days, there was even some bags of SR left over on Thu night.

PineconeOfDoom · 25/05/2020 18:03

Waitrose had loads yesterday

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 25/05/2020 18:17

Plenty of flour at our ASDA, in the bakery bags.

Caster sugar, on the other hand...

LumaLou · 25/05/2020 18:22

If you can get out, try smaller shops. I’ve found flour in local convenience stores. Some supermarkets are also splitting up larger bags.

LumaLou · 25/05/2020 18:23

My apologies, just read that you have tried local shops.

dementedpixie · 25/05/2020 18:26

One of our local Asdas had self raising for the first time in weeks. The other ones didnt and I haven't seen it anywhere else. I've sporadically seen plain flour in various shops

Willow2017 · 25/05/2020 18:26

Morrisons are getting big sacks and decanting it into small bags. Or you can buy the big sacks if you want.

panicstationsready · 25/05/2020 18:28

Morrisons are selling flour in their own bags - the ones they use for hot food with a little window in them! Also huge bags - not sure how big they were as I didn't really look as I don't need any. Sainsbury's have plenty as long as you are in relatively early.

Thesuzle · 25/05/2020 18:29

Where has all the baking powder gone tho

dementedpixie · 25/05/2020 18:31

Dh got me baking powder in Tesco in case I wanted to make self raising out of plain flour. I saw some in aldi too

WitchyMoo · 25/05/2020 18:33

Small bakery's have flour , around £1.50 kg
My local Tesco have some
I can't get icing sugar anywhere though and I can gets eggs and pasta everywhere now . I do buy an extra bag of this when I go shopping

Solina · 25/05/2020 18:34

I got some plain flour from ASDA few weeks ago as a substitute for the strong bread flour and self raising flour I wanted instead. So they do clearly have it occasionally. Its yeast and baking powder no one seems to have. But I made some baking powder with cream of tartar and baking soda instead and hope there will be yeast in stock soon.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 25/05/2020 18:35

Our local oneis doing flour in the bags they put bakery items in

Aria20 · 25/05/2020 18:37

There is none at all online but they had plain flour and strong white bread flour in store today and last week! No self raising but my local shop had 3kg bags of that

AnnaMagnani · 25/05/2020 18:38

Haven't seen caster sugar for ages. Caved and bought granulated to make a cake.

Couldn't tell the difference.

Lidl has been our best source for flour.

Truthpact · 25/05/2020 18:42

I can't get flour at Tesco, asda or any big shop here. I only find it at small independent shops. Same with sugar that isn't granulated or caster and chocolate chips.

SunshineCake · 25/05/2020 18:46

They are selling flour. In bags like the doughnuts come in. Or homepride tubs.

AgeLikeWine · 25/05/2020 18:46

Plenty of flour available at Waitrose.
