At 8pm tomorrow 26 May my family will take part in this protest.

Not that I think the consequences should end there....but I need to register my disgust somehow at the contempt Boris Johnson and the Government have shown for all of us.

I can't express how appalled I am by this, I know what my family has gone through and I have seen the hardships others have faced; and still kept to the rules for the sake of the public good. The Government's actions have shown how little respect and regard they have for us.

I do hope that others who feel similar outrage join in with this protest.

Is this a joke?

What is this about stand on your doorstep and do things... doesn't make a difference. Just write to your local MP or the PM

redcarbluecar · 25/05/2020 15:57

I think the gesture would be counter productive, giving the right wing press and their fans an opportunity to portray the government’s critics as childish and whingey, whilst their supporters are dignified and patriotic (VE Day, clap for Boris etc). Not suggesting this would be a fair or accurate representation, but it’d probably be quite insidious. I hope, however, that further down the line there is a chance to protest properly.

skodadoda · 25/05/2020 15:59

Dominic Cummings is making a statement at 4pm

VeganVeal · 25/05/2020 16:03

Can I bang a pan with a wooden spoon and sing 'somewhere over the rainbow'?

InThePocketOfAJacket · 25/05/2020 16:05

Jesus Christ, please tell me this is not a thing??

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 25/05/2020 16:07

What a load of old shit.

i'm surprised op hasn't had the thread pulled yet

Me too.

Not yet but they probably will because they haven’t received the adulation of the baying mob. It won’t be for Accidentally revealing identifying info, nor bullying (there hasn’t been any).

I’m going for either personal insult (getting called childish perhaps) or the disagreement is causing them anguish.

StayinginSummer · 25/05/2020 16:10

I think it’s a great idea. Enough is enough.

Although I would focus it on the covid19 message to self isolate. Self isolation means stay at home.

This is what I’d ferns me more than anything. Just look at this thread, lots of people saying well we didn’t really stay in, we went to family, well we think it’s maybe better to just make it up for your own family’s and not follow rules.

That Boris is prepared to throw out any community cooperation and clarity is very dangerous. Contact tracing just cannot happen if what DC did is deemed okay. It is extremely irresponsible to move around if you have the virus. Extremely!

Womencanlift · 25/05/2020 16:13

I won’t be booing just as the same as I have not been clapping but there seems to be an impression on this thread that the OP is making this Boo For Boris up.

I can say by the time the press conference finished yesterday I had seen notifications about it forwarded in multiple WhatsApp chats and other social media so it is definitely a thing that is getting talked about. Not sure how many people will actually do it though

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 25/05/2020 16:15

I've just seen Boo for Boris trending on Twitter, seems it's actually a thing Grin
Just what is the actual point?
He won't hear you and you'll just make yourself look a bit of a tit lol

StayinginSummer · 25/05/2020 16:17

@LemonadeAndDaisyChains I think the twits are the ones putting others down for standing up for cooperation, selflessness and integrity.

Booing isn’t really my thing either but I admire people wanting to stand up and ultimately reduce the number of deaths from covid19.

Lynda07 · 25/05/2020 16:21

Livingtothefull, you are a vindictive prat. I can just imagine your background. Go away!

I presume you think you've never made an error of judgement in your entire life.

AlwaysAnEmptySpace · 25/05/2020 16:24

Booing... dear god, no. It will achieve nothing.

Just don’t vote the shower of shite in next time.

Thecruxxofitis · 25/05/2020 16:27

I presume you think you've never made an error of judgement in your entire life
I’m sure @Livingtothefull has never enforced a country-wide rule making clear there were no exceptions, it was NOT a request etc etc only to deem themselves and their family the exception. So many people would’ve loved to be the exception, people have lost parents but couldn’t go to their funerals because they had symptoms. They couldn’t be the exception. It’s not that one man broke the rules, it was the fact he helped make the rules and it’s the fact that this is going to inevitably make people a lot more lax about lockdown putting themselves and others at risk because ‘if Dominic Cummings can do it, why should I’.

StayinginSummer · 25/05/2020 16:29

@Thecruxxofitis I agree. Many many people are going to think... what is the point?

This at a time when we are setting up contact tracing.

Which only works if those who have been in contact with someone agree to self isolate...

Shocking and so so damaging!

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 25/05/2020 16:31

Ultimately the twits will be the ones booing.

Nothing at all to do with integrity or selflessness.

He might not have herd immunity but he has achieved herd stupidity.

I understand perhaps writing to an MP. Booing on your doorstep like you are 5 will of course influence the world.

YounghillKang · 25/05/2020 16:42

Not sure about booing, but think you are right to be angry OP. But a lot of right-wing, anti-lockdown fanatics on the MN threads at the moment, you can tell by the proliferation of code words like 'free country'; 'liberty' etc...Some of them are UK based, but some are likely to be part of the similar American movement. They're exploiting the Cummings situation to suit their anti-lockdown agenda. So, I wouldn't bother to engage with them at the moment if I were you, particularly as they're rapidly being joined by Tory apologists. The ones who want to paint Cummings as some kind of victim/martyr, see on Twitter they've been trying to kickstart a 'Be Kind to Cummings' campaign by drawing comparisons to Caroline Flack!

kgal3542 · 25/05/2020 16:48

Corbyn broke lockdown rules, as he's over 70 and traipsed around various radio station studios, Stephen Kinnock MP broke lockdown when he drove between London and Wales for Neil Kinnock's birthday party, and what about the Labour MP who attended a Muslim funeral of over 100 people? Are you asking for those Labour MPs to be sacked also?

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 25/05/2020 16:53

Hahaha
No thanks OP

I am not a Boris or government fan but I am fed up of all of this childishness now .

CocoR · 25/05/2020 17:17

I won't be standing outside clapping.

I haven't done any of the ongoing NHS clapping, neither has NHS keyworker DH, as it is indeed bollocks.

Donate, write to your MP, sign petitions. The clapping does fuck all.

cottonwoolbrain · 25/05/2020 19:12

kgal3452 the MP who attended the funerals is ours.Hes a dreadful MP. I'd just like him sacked. I campaigned for one of his opponents in the last general election just because he was such a bad candidate regardless of his party.

LindainLockdown · 25/05/2020 19:18

This must be a joke, no one will seriously be doing this.

SugarNyx · 25/05/2020 19:22

People need to get a grip and get over it. Sick of hearing about it? Who gives a shit that some rich white guy went to go see him mum, hardly crime of the century is it? If you want to get covid, don’t follow the rules.

Shinyletsbebadguys · 25/05/2020 19:28

Oh for whiskeys sake (my deity of preference currently) this doorstep claptrap is getting more and more ridiculous.

Most of the carers and nurses I know (and my profession is such that I know a looot) think the first time was vaguely nice , now it's just a way for irritating twats to show off , one person I spoke to on Friday practical had steam coming out of his ears because he finds it offensive now.

He actually got screamed at by a family member for going off shift (after 12 days back to back) who actually said "you know I clap for you on a Thursday the least you could have done was stay a bit longer "....honest to whisky.....she actually said that.

And now booing?? Sorry OP but you will get childish because it is exactly that, whilst I recognise it's been brutally hard for you , it does not preclude you from being childish in this instance.

In fairness...free country and all that , fill your boots, for all the pointless waste of time that it is. Get angry , by all means , god knows it sounds like you have more reason than most, but get angry at the right thing not some easily tagged band wagon that happens across your path.

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 25/05/2020 19:28

I do give a shit, as the people who were in that Durham’s neighbourhood and the BC Gardens.

To be honest I don’t give a shit about him choosing to risk himself, but how many the three of them could have infected when they were so careless?

Shinyletsbebadguys · 25/05/2020 19:30

Free country is a code word ? Ooh yippee I didn't know and I used it....do I get a puppy?
