New thread to continue previous one, hope you don't mind original OP!

Oh yeah media question number 1.

Why are you doing this press conference when you actually don't care what anyone thinks anyway?

That would be a blinder!

AnneKipanki · 25/05/2020 13:34

Farce.

SharonasCorona · 25/05/2020 13:36

The aide doesn't get to speak to the Nation.

You’re right, Sky News saying ‘the Code of Conduct for special advisors says special advisors must not take part in public controversy through any form of statement whether in speeches or letters to the press’.

StormzyinaTCup · 25/05/2020 13:36

So stormzy if this is about 2 left wing papers. What about the daily mail? They are Tory supporters. And Andrew from the mail has even said he has to go

The DM had a change of editor two years ago, the polar opposite of Dacre. You would be naive if you thought the media were reporting on this purely on the basis of the pandemic.

Anyway, here is the latest YouGov poll it's 52% Grin

SharonasCorona · 25/05/2020 13:38

But that's kind of the point. How many different things defences do we have to put up with him trying? It's over 48 hours too late to try a truthful heartstrings approach to this.

Agreed. I can’t imagine his mother would have revealed to the press about his uncle dying without DC’s permission. Very badly handled.

SharonasCorona · 25/05/2020 13:39

Oh yes Sharonas, I'd forgotten that gem. Only yesterday he wasn't at all interested in what the press thought and now he wants to tell them what he thinks.

Suddenly when his job is at threat he cares!

itsgettingweird · 25/05/2020 13:43

ThTs interesting stormzy. I've heard that it's 50/50 he should go and heard the 52%. I thought that was a pretty safe bet for the PM to keep him on and probably partly why he had the balls to try.
But I didn't know that actually only 20% think he should stay. That's a really small margin.

I suspect the don't knows are people who swapped allegiance like others to get brexit done and are worried about what will happen to country or just actually don't give a fly8ng fuck about politics!

Inoneminute · 25/05/2020 13:43

So by making this appearance he'd be in breach of the Civil Service code of conduct?.

So it must be a resignation then? And an attempt to distance Boris from the whole sorry affair?

I doubt it really but it's a very strange carry on. If he's still planning to stay he'll basically be saying the PM didn't get the explanation right, I'm going to have to do it myself.

SharonasCorona · 25/05/2020 13:50

So by making this appearance he'd be in breach of the Civil Service code of conduct

I suspect they will say these are exceptional circumstances. Yet more allowances being made for DC.

itsgettingweird · 25/05/2020 13:56

Someone said to remember why we are specifically angry over this.

Here's mine.

Boris Johnson stood before us and told us many of us would have to make sacrifices. It would be hard. Loved ones will die before their time.

We did. Millions of us up and down the country.

But he is condoning Dominic Cummings travelling 260 miles when at least 1 of the party had covid 19 just in case they faced difficulties and had to make sacrifices.

Galdos · 25/05/2020 14:04

Haven't read the whole thread (so popular the link kept freezing!), but I haven't seen any comment on Boris's statement that DC acted "with integrity." Bit difficult to sack the man (absent any new facts) when you had had several discussions with him about his actions (so presumably had DC's full version) AND you have publicly stated that DC acted 'with integrity...'

If DC goes, it has to be dressed up as his resignation, say on the basis that he doesn't want to be a distraction - but I can't see this happening. Everything I've heard about DC suggests he isn't the resigning type!

SharonasCorona · 25/05/2020 14:06

Yes i can’t seem his resigning during a press conference. He would have resigned in a statement. Maybe on his blog.

SharonasCorona · 25/05/2020 14:08

DC’s opposite neighbour was gawking at the press and DC in her dressing gown in her front garden 😂

Queenunikitty · 25/05/2020 14:33

DC isn’t a Civil Servant that is the whole point, SPADS are not civil servants and are not under the control of Sedwill, which is what this whole debacle is really about.

NoMoreReluctantCustodians · 25/05/2020 14:46

Well. I am totally gobsmacked. My very much Boris supporting Tory MP has just tweeted that DC should resign. No idea if he is one of the 20 Tory MPs publicly speaking out against DC but this would have been a very difficult step for this particular MP

NoMoreReluctantCustodians · 25/05/2020 14:47

Meant to add fair play to him

FluffytheGoldfish · 25/05/2020 14:48

He is not in breach of the cIvil service code of conduct as he is not a civil servant, he is in breach of the special adviser code of conduct but I think that may be advisory.

Ulver · 25/05/2020 14:52

His neighbours must be fuming.

SophieB100 · 25/05/2020 15:03

He's going to do his little press conference to us minions at 4.00. From the Rose Garden at number 10.
Lovely.
We are not worthy.

@StormzyinaTCup Having used the AS search function i KNOW you would be humming a different tune if it was Corbyn.

AnneKipanki · 25/05/2020 15:04

Well , if it’s an advisory code , we all know how that will be adhered to .
