New thread to continue previous one, hope you don't mind original OP!

It's anger that will be forgotten! Not my me, but by many others.

SophieB100 · 25/05/2020 12:43

Breaking: Cummings is going to make a public statement today and take questions (Sky)

SharonasCorona · 25/05/2020 12:44

@The80sweregreat no one has said that this will be remembered forever. A week is long time in politics etc etc

But many people want DC out. Then we can forget this debacle.

Alsohuman · 25/05/2020 12:45

It won’t be forgotten. It’s Johnson’s poll tax. None of us have forgotten that.

Hmmm unlikely to be a resignation? My guess is he will try the bereaved defence.

The80sweregreat · 25/05/2020 12:56

I hope that he stops waving that notebook around!

Mittens030869 · 25/05/2020 12:59

@Alsohuman That really is true. And Thatcher was thrown out be her own party as a result. BoJo will have the same fate if he doesn't listen to the discontent in his own party. The Tory Party is notorious for ruthlessly booting out PMs who have become a liability. They're getting letters from irate constituents and they're rightly concerned.

He can't tough this one out, as it won't go away.

StrawberryJam200 · 25/05/2020 13:01

Any news on what time the conference will be?

RoosterPie · 25/05/2020 13:02

Oh God, that press conference is going to be appalling.

SophieB100 · 25/05/2020 13:04

No timing yet - Sky political correspondent said that it was from a Downing Street source. And it will be today. Might be part of the briefing? Might be before, after? We'll have to wait and see.

They already have their 'people' out in force, on various platforms, planting the seeds of doubt, manipulating the public. They will get away with this. Boris got away with it with his hand shaking of covid patients - oh look at me I'm not scared of some silly old virus. Then, of course, he was painted as some kind of avenging hero for 'battling' against corona.

We've been spun faster than a fast spinny thing. They will come out of this utter disaster, with 10s of thousands of deaths due to their herd immunity, smelling of roses. I'd bet my last breath on it.

SophieB100 · 25/05/2020 13:08

They are saying this is extremely unusual, for an Aide to do this, and shows how this has rocked number 10.

OP posts:
The80sweregreat · 25/05/2020 13:09

The press being so awful to him hasn't helped. I'm upset , but my pitchfork is in the garage still!
What were they thinking here?
Hoping that DC can clear things up a bit.

Alsohuman · 25/05/2020 13:09

It’s not just unusual. It’s unprecedented. How are he? Who voted for him?

Alsohuman · 25/05/2020 13:10

Dare he!

itsgettingweird · 25/05/2020 13:19

So stormzy if this is about 2 left wing papers. What about the daily mail? They are Tory supporters. And Andrew from the mail has even said he has to go. He stood up to peirs Morgan last week for not allowing him to finish his sentence that defended the government.

Alsohuman · 25/05/2020 13:21

The Telegraph’s frothing too.

Inoneminute · 25/05/2020 13:24

P Morgan is gunning for them too

itsgettingweird · 25/05/2020 13:25

Stephen Reicter from sage very clearly stated on tv this morning it is no secret he isn't a Tory supporter. But his job was to advise the Tory government. He did this. He gave them all the scientific advice. He then made policy and set the rules for the people. He's now undermined all sage did and the people of Britain. And he's right.

kirinm · 25/05/2020 13:25

This is insane. Cummings is doing a press conference? I don't want to hear from him. The government and our prime minister have shown their true colours and the damage is beyond done. Why do we need a statement from a non elected bloody advisor?!

SharonasCorona · 25/05/2020 13:29

I’m looking forward to the briefing, after DC told the media (and by extension the public) - ‘it doesn’t matter what you think’.

Inoneminute · 25/05/2020 13:30

Unless Cummings is resigning or at the very least a real grovelling heartfelt apology, which would be a major change of direction in 24hrs how can this possibly do anything but make it worse?

The aide doesn't get to speak to the Nation.

itsgettingweird · 25/05/2020 13:31

Hmmm unlikely to be a resignation? My guess is he will try the bereaved defence

But that's kind of the point. How many different things defences do we have to put up with him trying? It's over 48 hours too late to try a truthful heartstrings approach to this.

Inoneminute · 25/05/2020 13:31

Oh yes Sharonas, I'd forgotten that gem. Only yesterday he wasn't at all interested in what the press thought and now he wants to tell them what he thinks.
