New thread to continue previous one, hope you don't mind original OP!

And sage member says boris has just undermined much of the science.

RoosterPie · 24/05/2020 21:04

Yeah a few of the behavioural science group have said he has totally undermined their advice on how to get the public on board with a lockdown.

Focusanddetermination · 24/05/2020 21:05

maresydoats yes. Glad I'm not the only one so cynical.

Greensidepark · 24/05/2020 21:07

We all can now use the Dominic Cummings defence.

Another said they had received a complaint from a police officer. “I’m being asked legitimate questions about how officers are supposed to respond if members of the public turn round this weekend and say if the rules don’t apply to Boris’s aide, they do not apply to them either.”

Clavinova · 24/05/2020 21:08

we weren't permitted to travel that far for exercise at that time (apart from some people with disabilities).

The wording here is a bit vague to be honest - open to interpretation - do you have the wording from March? Local could be 20 miles.

"exercise can be combined with other–incidental–activity that is beneficial to people’s health and well-being;"
"exercise should be local, involve minimal risk and be done in accordance with advice on social distancing;"
"travelling by vehicle to exercise should be avoided unless there is a good reason for doing so."

PickUpThePieces · 24/05/2020 21:09

I suspect that there is a move afoot to oust Boris Johnson who looks and sounds like shit.
He’s definitely lost his edge.

The people behind the scenes have gone after Dominic Cummings and Boris has backed him, risking everything, not least of all the sacrifices made by the vast majority of the UK population.

I hope Boris Johnson will be forced to step down in the next few weeks.
His health may be used as a reason.

Anyone heard anything from Govey, Govey, Govey ?

Clavinova · 24/05/2020 21:09

do you have the wording from March?
That should be March/April?

YouTheCat · 24/05/2020 21:11

Given that his parents' house is in a nice area there was no need for a 30 mile trip to exercise. There are plenty of places to walk around there.

errorofjudgement · 24/05/2020 21:12

Not read the full thread, but is it ironic that mumsnet is the only place I can express my anger and frustration at Dominic Cummings actions, and by the Prime Minister defending him.
There’s no point in my writing to my spineless ‘Yes PM’ MP. 🤷‍♀️

YouTheCat · 24/05/2020 21:13

There's this

SophieB100 · 24/05/2020 21:14

Of course SAGE are fuming, Boris has just undermined everything they have done.

Starmer is just saying that if he was Prime Minister, he would have sacked him. That Boris failed the test and has put everything in jeopardy.

Spokesman from SAGE saying that everything is now on a knife edge, many more people may die because public, understandably, now question everything the government tells them. He hopes that public will prevail and continue to follow the advice from science. He says now is a pivotal time.

He says that scientists will be extremely frustrated.

What a bloody farce.

And this

womanaf · 24/05/2020 21:18

My MP is normally a complete yes man but he replied saying DC needed to go.

ListeningQuietly · 24/05/2020 21:19

If you are angry about the way Cummings has behaved
PLEASE EMAIL YOUR MP
www.parliament.uk/get-involved/contact-your-mp/
Don't bother with petitions, don't bother with FB

Let your elected representative know how you feel
about not seeing family / friends
while Dominic is allowed to
they work for you

Mittens030869 · 24/05/2020 21:21

@PickUpThePieces I'm inclined to agree about BoJo. I've had a real struggle with COVID-19 symptoms and my recovery is very slow. And I haven't been in hospital or intensive care. Obviously I might be wrong but it wouldn't surprise me.

If he isn't well enough to do his job he needs to stand down. A lame duck PM is no good to the country (apart from Cummings who can behave however he wants and his mate the PM will back him up).

I might be totally wrong, obviously, but the PM needs to get his act together pronto.

Monsterpage · 24/05/2020 21:23

Also doesn’t DC’s BIL (his wife’s brother) live in London. Couldn’t he have helped? Or maybe his relatives dislike him too.

PorpoisefullyObtuse · 24/05/2020 21:24

I’m not surprised DC thought he was above the rules. I’m shocked BoJo thinks we won’t have noticed that he has broken them.

As the parent of an 11 and 9 year old toddler why shouldn’t I go to my holiday home? And can I only go if I have covid 19 symptoms?

Swiftseason · 24/05/2020 21:27

I'm glad the police will investigate.

Re the public questioning everything the gov tells them 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣

People don't already!!!

Everyone should question everything all the time!!

PickUpThePieces · 24/05/2020 21:27

Mittens, sorry to hear you’ve had a hard time with Covid 19, it can be a monster of an illness.
I don’t think Boris is well enough to lead the country.

Who the hell has advised him to back Cummings?
Have Harry and Meghan’s PR team struck again?

All of it defies all logic.

itsgettingweird · 24/05/2020 21:27

So clav the question that needs asking is "what essential to health activity were you doing in Bernard Castle" "what good reason was there for travelling to this destination and why couldn't you have done that activity closer to your chosen isolation address"

I'd also be asking if Bernard Castle is local to London! Because surely if he travelled to Durham for childcare when ill there actually wasn't any legitimate reason to remain there and travel around a fair distance when he was well again.

Figmentofmyimagination · 24/05/2020 21:27

porpoisefully I think you can go if you are just worried you might have covid symptoms!

Clavinova · 24/05/2020 21:29

Given that his parents' house is in a nice area there was no need for a 30 mile trip to exercise.

"other–incidental–activity that is beneficial to people’s health and well-being;" is also mentioned??

Also, we don't know what day they drove back to London. It must have been on the 12th or the 13th April because DC was back in Downing Street on the 14th - they might have driven to Barnard Castle on the way back - it's not really out of their way if they wanted to buy provisions/lunch and avoid being seen at a motorway service station. The main issue for me at the moment is if DC drove back to Durham on the 19th April and the 10th May which is also claimed by the Mirror - that would be difficult to explain.

Clavinova · 24/05/2020 21:29

crossed post.

Swiftseason · 24/05/2020 21:31

Porpoise personally, if you felt ill and your partner did and your '' holiday home 'was separated on some of family compound where you could only get the help you need... I'd say go
But to go to your holiday home just solely for a break, I'd say no.
Even if you could get delivers there and not enter shops.

SophieB100 · 24/05/2020 21:31

My elderly mother called me a little while ago.
I've waved at her through her window once a week since late March.
She is appalled by Boris and the disaster of the briefing.

She has always voted Tory.

She was virtually speechless.

She quoted Aasop: "You know a man by the company he keeps"

We certainly do, don't we Boris?
