New thread to continue previous one, hope you don't mind original OP!

OP posts:

Mittens.

Sadly, and also with some small relief, I don't have elderly parents to worry about or older people bar one... To worry about. And I'm not that old to be an orphan.

However my closest relatives did live a good 3 1/2 hour car journey away.
There is no question we could do it in one slog. With adequate supplies or... Pulling off motor way to find a safe place to pee in a bush for a child!!

It's not impossible but I've also lived in oz where people drive 4 hours to go to a party!!!

It's not inconceivable or impossible that they didn't stop and expose people.

We need a proper investigation. But as I said... It makes me feel sad when there is a far bigger crisis going on.

Mittens030869 · 24/05/2020 20:24

@SharonasCorona But that birthday party hasn't even been talked about on the news, even at the briefing. I don't understand why that's the case? Surely it would have been much harder to explain away?

YouTheCat · 24/05/2020 20:25

I know some people have spent lock down with parents because of childcare issues to try and get around the rules. That's why. I don't necessarily think it's right either but it;s a great deal more understandable. Cummings was going for a holiday.

The80sweregreat · 24/05/2020 20:26

The birthday party was airbrushed as Boris has misjudged the mood here.
Either that or he is is too busy with Wilfred to care much! Wants it to fizzle out

Fudgewhizz · 24/05/2020 20:27

Led By Donkeys have now parked a massive screen outside DC's house with a video playing of Boris telling everyone to stay at home, interspersed with people who followed the rules talking about the hell they've been through

Swiftseason · 24/05/2020 20:27

Oh I see. Any holiday.

Well a police investigation should uncover that if its true..
Personally however I cannot fathom why there isn't more outrage at the care home scandal. The only person who seems to care is piers Morgan.

YouTheCat · 24/05/2020 20:30

I am outraged at the care home farce and the ppe nonsense. According to the WHO the UK was supposed to be one of the best prepared countries to face a pandemic. With proper management it could have been a very different death toll. It is utterly shameful that people who are nursing the sick and caring for our elderly and vulnerable are dying because of this government's herd immunity policy.

Swiftseason · 24/05/2020 20:31

Fudge.

If anyone on that video said '' we had the privilege of an empty house, our family near by... But we suffered, we chose not to go... ... Our dc not fed...us incapacitated... You bastards... ''

I wouldn't have much sympathy.

Maybe this ultimately comes down to the divide between told what to do by the government to the ninth degree and being allowed more freedom??

Leicester5 · 24/05/2020 20:32

I've emailed MP which was awkward as I knew previous MP well but in a more personal capacity. Tory.

I think if I have been diagnosed as having cancer and being so severely ill whilst in lockdown but not breached the rules by travelling to have a hug and cup of tea made for me then government officials should be able to do it.

BGD2012 · 24/05/2020 20:32

I thought it was awful to watch. Did anyone hear Boris say something about vague medical issues necessitating the trip. (My kids were running around at the time but I'm sure I caught that).

Mittens030869 · 24/05/2020 20:32

@Swiftseason

Maybe so. We've packed a potty for the purpose in the past, so yes it can be done.

Either way, we don't know. I don't think it was right to make the journey, anyway, when one parent or potentially both might be ill. It wasn't necessary, especially as they didn't need the support anyway.

If it was only for the purposes of self-isolation, surely we wouldn't have had other instances to ask questions about?

Swiftseason · 24/05/2020 20:33

You I'm, saddened because it should have been prepared for for.. But glad to hear it.

Mittens030869 · 24/05/2020 20:36

@The80sweregreat But why wasn't he asked about the birthday party? I wouldn't even know about it if i hadn't seen it on Mumsnet. If it's a genuine story, I don't understand why no journalist asked BoJo about it at the briefing. It's a much more flagrant breaking of the guidelines than any of the others.

Is there a link to the newspaper story?

Clavinova · 24/05/2020 20:40

But what about his visit to Barnard Castle whilst he should have been in isolation?

He was seen leaving Downing Street on the 27th March - a witness says he saw him in Barnard Castle on the 12th April - that's more than 14 days.

maresydoats · 24/05/2020 20:41

Does anyone have a sneaky suspicion that this revelation was planned.

  1. to enrage us and ensure we will just break the rules now (herd immunity by our own decisions now)
  2. News broke on a Bank Holiday perfect timing.
  3. If there is another spike we will be blamed for not isolating ourselves, it will be all our fault.

It is just so bizarre.

itsgettingweird · 24/05/2020 20:45

Clav he was seen leaving downing street on 27/3/2020. Not seen heading to Durham then. So we cannot know he had isolated for 14 days at that point. Oh sorry "14 days or more" to quote Boris.

Clavinova · 24/05/2020 20:49

But why wasn't he asked about the birthday party?

Because the property he was staying in was situated in the same grounds as his parent's house - he was living as their neighbour at the time and spotted outside their house not inside? If Dominic Cummings actually had coronavirus symptoms wasn't the isolation period 7 days, not 14 in March/April?

RoosterPie · 24/05/2020 20:51

He was seen leaving Downing Street on the 27th March - a witness says he saw him in Barnard Castle on the 12th April - that's more than 14 days

I doubt it is that simple or they would she’s admitted he went there and said it was after his isolation period and he was permitted for travel there for exercise or some bullshit. They’re being very tetchy about it, and Boris avoided the question, so I imagine it wasn’t a legitimate trip.

Clavinova · 24/05/2020 20:51

Clav he was seen leaving downing street on 27/3/2020. Not seen heading to Durham then

I think Grant Shapps said DC left London on the 27th or 28th March -that might not turn out to be correct of course.

Alsohuman · 24/05/2020 20:58

He was seen leaving Downing Street on the 27th March - a witness says he saw him in Barnard Castle on the 12th April - that's more than 14 days

The timeline has him driving to Durham on 31 March when, according to him, he had no Covid symptoms.

YouTheCat · 24/05/2020 20:58

The isolation is irrelevant anyway really because Barnard Castle is 30 miles from his parents' and we weren't permitted to travel that far for exercise at that time (apart from some people with disabilities).

Swiftseason · 24/05/2020 20:59

Mittens neither of mine would use a potty and pulling off motorway to use lay by with bushes or whatever is what we've done many times.
Dc don't need to go when there is a convenient services Grinmine have always needed the loo whenever there had been no convenient place wherever we were.

twinnywinny14 · 24/05/2020 21:00

This whole situation is outrageous. Dominic Cummings did not need to make that journey. He did not need the childcare, and even if he feared he might have needed it there were plenty of other options available to them in the event that they were too unwell to look after their child themselves. The childcare clause is about a situation where neither parent can look after their child/ren and this was not the situation. He broke the rules and should be held to account be held for that

JacobReesMogadishu · 24/05/2020 21:01

But once he starts symptoms he only needs to isolate for 7 days or until no longer symptomatic.....whichever is longer. So if he got poorly on 1st April, felt better on the 9th, he could go out on the 10th.

But yes, not to Barnardcastle, 30 miles away from his parents house.....why is this not being picked up on more?

Humphriescushion · 24/05/2020 21:01

I understand durham police have been asked to investigate!
